A robust function to return the cumulative density of non-central F distributions in Microsoft Office Excel / Una función robusta para calcular con Microsoft Office Excel la densidad acumulada de las distribuciones F no centrales

The manuscript presents a Visual Basic® for Applications function that operates within Microsoft Office Excel® to return the area below the curve for a given F within a specified non-central F distribution. The function will be of use to Excel users without programming experience wherever a noncentral F distribution is required, such as conducting power analyses for analysis of variance designs and constructing confidence intervals on effect sizes. Tests show the function to produce results comparable to those obtained with the commercial software SPSS and the popular free R environment for statistical computing. Spreadsheets for use in Excel and OpenOffice Calc® are included with example usages (AU)

Este manuscrito presenta una función de Visual Basic® para aplicaciones que opera en el entorno de Microsoft Office Excel® computando el área bajo la curva de un valor de F determinado dentro de una distribución F no central. Es una función útil para usuarios de Excel con o sin experiencia de programación en aquellas ocasiones en las que se requiere una distribución F no central, como cuando se realizan análisis de la potencia para diseños de análisis de varianza o cuando se necesita calcular los intervalos de confianza en el tamaño del efecto. Las pruebas realizadas con esta función encuentran resultados equivalentes a los obtenidos con el programa comercial SPSS y el popular entorno gratuito R para el cálculo estadístico. Modeling local item dependence in cloze and reading comprehension test items using testlet response theory

In this study the magnitudes of local dependence generated by cloze test items and reading comprehension items were compared and their impact on parameter estimates and test precision was investigated. An advanced English as a foreign language reading comprehension test containing three reading passages and a cloze test was analyzed with a two-parameter logistic testlet response model and a two-parameter logistic item response model. Results showed that the cloze test produced substantially higher magnitudes of local dependence than reading items, albeit the levels of local dependency produced by reading items was not ignorable. Further analyses demonstrated that while even substantial magnitudes of testlet effect does not impact parameter estimates it does influence test reliability and information. Assessment and classification of service learning: a case study of CS/EE students.

This study investigates the undergraduate students in computer science/electric engineering (CS/EE) in Taiwan to measure their perceived benefits from the experiences in service learning coursework. In addition, the confidence of their professional disciplines and its correlation with service learning experiences are examined. The results show that students take positive attitudes toward service learning and their perceived benefits from service learning are correlated with their confidence in professional disciplines. Furthermore, this study designs the knowledge model by Bayesian network (BN) classifiers and term frequency-inverse document frequency (TFIDF) for counseling students on the optimal choice of service learning.
