A choice of the prosthetic platform in implant dentistry is fundamental to ensure long-term success of procedures. All types of prosthetic connections have their advantages and disadvantages, and it's up to the dentist to choose what best suits their case. A literature review was conducted, encompassing relevant studies comparing these two prosthetic platforms in terms of biomechanics and aesthetics. Literature reviews and in vitro studies were analyzed using keywords such as "Cone Morse," "biomechanics," and "abutment." The research was conducted on Scielo and PubMed databases, and the selected articles should address connection stability, bone preservation, and peri-implant aesthetics. The review results demonstrate that the Cone Morse platform offers a more stable interface, reduces screw loosening, and minimizes bacterial infiltration. As a result, Cone Morse contributes to the preservation of bone and gingival structures around the implant, making it a valuable choice, especially in aesthetic rehabilitation procedures.

BACKGROUND: As new aesthetic treatment techniques are developed, the understanding of botulinum toxin type A safety and treatment outcomes continues to evolve. OBJECTIVE: This article was developed to provide a comprehensive up-to-date reference for clinicians using incobotulinumtoxinA (INCO; Xeomin/Bocouture, Merz Pharmaceuticals GmbH, Frankfurt, Germany) for aesthetic treatments. PATIENTS AND METHODS/MATERIALS: A Latin American panel of 11 physicians was assembled to discuss and develop recommendations on the use of INCO for aesthetic treatment based on the literature review and their private medical practice. RESULTS: The panel found that INCO is a highly purified botulinum toxin, without other clostridial proteins (hemagglutinins and nonhemagglutinins). IncobotulinumtoxinA has proven its efficacy and duration over time, maintaining response after multiple treatment cycles. CONCLUSION: This recommendation provides up-to-date information on the use of INCO for aesthetic treatment, focusing on the differential properties of this product regarding its purity, performance, customization, and patient satisfaction.

OBJECTIVE: The aim of this retrospective article is to evaluate postoperative outcomes after extracapsular dissection for small benign superficial parotid neoplasms (<3â¯cm) in patients who received Superficial Musculoaponeurotic System (SMAS) flap and in patients who did not receive it. METHODS: Two groups were created and statistically compared regarding Frey's syndrome and aesthetic satisfaction by data collected through the POI-8 validated questionnaire and through an aesthetic satisfaction scale ranging from 1 to 10. The difference between these two groups was the utilization of SMAS flap. SMAS flap was harvested in one of these two group, meanwhile was not used in the other. RESULTS: The p-value analysis between group 1 and group 2 on these complications, resulted statistically not significant. Also, the aesthetic satisfaction resulted not statistically significant between group 1 and group 2. Gender, localization, and facial palsy resulted statistically correlated with the aesthetic satisfaction (p-value < 0.05). CONCLUSION: In conclusion, there is no statistical difference in the use of SMAS flap for benign parotid neoformations of the superficial lobe, with a diameter of less than 3â¯cm for which extracapsular dissection is adopted as a surgical technique.

INTRODUCTION: Hand aging is a prevalent concern characterized by the atrophy of local soft tissues and increased visibility of vessels and tendons. Hyaluronic acid (HA) and calcium hydroxyapatite (CaHA) are well-established treatments for addressing this issue. While hybrid filler containing HA and CaHA has been proposed for facial rejuvenation, studies investigating its efficacy for hand rejuvenation are lacking. OBJECTIVE: This study aims to assess the safety and efficacy of a premixed hybrid filler containing calcium hydroxyapatite (CaHA) and hyaluronic acid (HA) for hand rejuvenation. METHODS: A prospective, double-blind, controlled trial was conducted. The control arm (CA) received conventional subdermal treatment with CaHA at a 1:1 dilution. The intervention arm (IA) underwent hybrid treatment, consisting of CaHA at a 1:1 dilution combined with 1 ml of low-density HA. Evaluation was performed subjectively using the Global Aesthetic Improvement Scale (GAIS) and the Manchester Hand Grading System (MHGS), and objectively using cutometry, corneometry, and ultrasound. RESULTS: Both the CA and the IA exhibited high rates of patient satisfaction and satisfaction as assessed by blinded evaluators. Although numerical superiority was observed in the IA, no statistical difference was found between the two groups. Significant improvements in hydration, elasticity, and skin thickness were observed in both arms, with no discernible difference between them. Greater ultrasound echogenicity was noted in the IA, which, as indicated by existing literature, may suggest enhanced biostimulation. No adverse effects were reported in either arm. CONCLUSION: Premixed filler containing HA and CaHA for hand rejuvenation appears to be a safe and effective approach. BACKGROUND: The facial aging process entails alterations in the volume, shape, and texture of all skin layers over time. Calcium hydroxyapatite (CaHA) is a well-established safe skin filler with unique properties to resolve some skin alterations by stimulating neocollagenesis. The vectoral-lift (V-lift) technique targets the global repositioning of facial structures by addressing distinct anatomical injection planes. It includes deep facial augmentation with Radiesse PlusTM to retain ligament restructuring and superficial subcutaneous enhancement with diluted Radiesse DuoTM. Herein, we present cases that illustrate the use of this approach. METHODS: This pilot study enrolled 36 participants (33 women and three men; ages 37-68 years) in a Brazilian clinical setting, and all patients underwent a single treatment. Photographs were taken at rest, in frontal and oblique views, before injection, and 90 days after treatment. RESULTS: Treatment resulted in elevation of the upper and middle face, notable improvements in the infraorbital hollow, and adjustment of the mean facial volume. CONCLUSIONS: The V-lift technique is a three-dimensional pan-facial treatment that relies on ligament support and face vectoring to obtain a lifting effect and facial contour restoration. It encompasses deep facial augmentation involving the use of Radiesse PlusTM for restructuring and retaining ligaments and Radiesse DuoTM for superficial subcutaneous enhancement. This approach targets a global repositioning of the facial structures by addressing distinct anatomical injection planes. It achieves a repositioning of the overall facial anatomy without requiring a substantial volumetric expansion. INTRODUCTION: The Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL) is a safe technique that entails body reshaping through buttock augmentation using autologous fat transfer. METHOD: Between 2018 and 2022, 3000 patients underwent surgery. Each procedure commenced with the patient in supine position, starting with abdominal liposuction, followed by fat transfer to hips. Subsequently, the patient was repositioned to a prone stance. Liposuction of the back and waist ensued, concluding the surgery with fat transfer to the buttocks. Stringent precautions were implemented to ensure the safety of the patient throughout the procedure. RESULTS: Eighty-six percent of patients express satisfaction with their outcomes, while seventy percent of the transferred fat calls survive in the buttocks. One serious complication and some minor complications have been encountered and effectively managed through conservative measures. CONCLUSION: BBL proves to be a safe and satisfactory surgery when performed by experienced surgeons who adhere to fundamental principles. OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to use validated measures to evaluate the functional and esthetic outcomes in patients who underwent functional rhinoplasty for Internal Nasal Valve Dysfunction (INVD) in Korea. METHODS: A retrospective review of consecutive patients who underwent functional rhinoplasty for INVD confirmed by endoscopic findings and the modified Cottle test between 2016 and 2018 was performed. Nasal obstruction was assessed with the Visual Analog Scale (VAS) and nasal obstruction symptom evaluation (NOSE) scale. Acoustic rhinometry was performed pre- and post-operatively. The Minimal Cross-Sectional Area (MCA) of the nose was measured. Objective assessment of the esthetic outcomes was performed with the Objective Rhinoplasty Outcome Score (OROS), which assesses tip rotation, projection, width, dorsal height, width, length, symmetry, and the overall result. RESULTS: Fifty-seven patients (46 men and 11 women; mean age, 30.5⯱â¯12.3 years) who underwent functional rhinoplasty were included in this study. The VAS and NOSE scores indicated functional improvement in all cases (all pâ¯<â¯0.001). There were no significant between-group differences (VAS score, pâ¯=â¯0.274; NOSE score, pâ¯=â¯0.952). The objective functional outcomes evaluated using MCA on the concave (pâ¯=â¯0.478) and convex (pâ¯=â¯0.631) sides did not differ significantly pre- and post-operatively. The subjective evaluation of esthetic satisfaction revealed no between-group difference. Moreover, 31 out of 44 patients (70.5%) with static INVD and nine out of 14 patients (64.3%) with dynamic or combined INVD showed excellent outcomes. Regarding objective esthetic outcomes, scores for the eight factors were >3, and there was no significant difference between the two groups (all pâ¯>â¯0.05). CONCLUSIONS: Functional rhinoplasty, including extracorporeal septoplasty and spreader grafting, may be a viable option for correcting INVD with functional and esthetic improvement. Dynamic INVD is less prevalent among Asians, and there was no significant difference in the surgical outcomes compared with those of static INVD. LEVEL OF EVIDENCE: Level 4.

OBJECTIVE: The primary objective of this study was to determine the long-term satisfaction levels of women who have undergone breast augmentation and augmentation mastopexy procedures, while identifying the factors influencing patient satisfaction. METHODS: A self-reported retrospective case study design was used to collect data from women with breast implants. The study employed a survey that included demographic information, preoperative diagnosis, implant details, and patient-reported outcomes measured using the Breast-Q Instrument, which evaluates satisfaction with breasts, self-esteem, sexual well-being, and physical symptoms. Statistical analyses were conducted to identify correlations and differences in outcomes between the different variables. RESULTS: The survey was completed by 1022 women from 19 countries, with Chile, Mexico, and Colombia being the most represented. Augmentation was performed on 72.2% of the patients, while 27.7% underwent augmentation mastopexy. Patient satisfaction with breast size and shape varied significantly between the two procedures, with patients undergoing augmentation mastopexy showing less satisfaction. In addition, patients who were unaware of their implant shape or placement reported lower satisfaction scores. The study also found that patient satisfaction decreased over time in the augmentation mastopexy cases and that patients with high body mass index had lower satisfaction. CONCLUSION: Augmentation mastopexy in patients with breast ptosis yields lower satisfaction than augmentation alone. Dissatisfaction escalates with overweight/obesity (BMI), post-surgery time, and misinformation. Implant pocket (pre-vs. subpectoral), shape (round vs. anatomical), and size did not impact satisfaction. BACKGROUND: This study introduces and assesses the outcomes of a novel rhinoplasty technique, TRICK-TIP (Transcolumellar and Inter Cartilaginous Keystoning with Tip preservation), employing a combined open and closed approach with tip anatomy conservation and structured tip support. METHODS: The procedure involves a low stairstep columellar sectioning, followed by transmembranous and intercartilaginous incisions without skin dissection in the columella or tip. Elevating the entire mobile nose as a three-layered flap provides extensive access to the entire nasal pyramid and septum. Tip modifications, including retrograde cephalic cartilage resection and supratip skin thinning, are performed based on individual cases. A key columellar strut is frequently used, initially sutured in the interdomal space and then turned down for height adjustment and final fixation. Interdomal sutures, supratip sutures, and alar resection are implemented as needed. RESULTS: One hundred twenty patients participated, with high satisfaction and a low frequency of adverse effects reported using four FACE-Q™ questionnaires. One hundred and two independent raters evaluated pre and postoperative photographs, scoring "overall nose result" as 3.6 out of 5, with minimal or absent nostril deformities (1.84), soft triangle deformities (1.73), and columellar external scar deformity/visibility (1.35) where 1 is the absence of the deformity and 5 is disfigurement. Complications were absent, and revisions were infrequent. CONCLUSIONS: The combined benefits of the wide-open approach, shortened surgery duration, and nasal tip preservation contribute to outcome optimization. TRICK-TIP rhinoplasty is characterized by simplicity, enabling targeted modifications, preventing soft triangle and rim complications, and facilitating essential tip support while maintaining favorable results.

OBJECTIVE: We investigated motivation levels across the general Brazilian population and subgroups and their willingness to spend for surgery without a cervical scar. METHODS: This random-sample survey was performed by a specialized third-party research institute. In this study, we created a hypothetical thyroidectomy scenario, and the transcervical and transoral endoscopic thyroidectomy vestibular approach (TOETVA) were used. The survey included sociocultural data and questions regarding participants' surgical preferences. RESULTS: Data were obtained from 1250 participants; 42.4% were of the opinion that a cervical scar affects social or professional life. Young and childless women were most likely to be affected (p <0.001). All respondents accepted the transoral approach to avoid cervical scarring. However, 30.7% and 31.9% of respondents maintained their preference for TOETVA despite understanding the risks of a hypothetical increase in complications and unfavorable oncological outcomes and 98.6% were of the opinion that this approach was likely associated with greater postoperative pain. Only 16.2% were unwilling to spend for TOETVA. The variable that most affected patients' willingness to spend was a salary greater than 10 Brazilian minimum wages (odds ratio 9.797, 95% confidence interval, p <0.005). Upper class respondents were 10 times more likely to spend for TOETVA than lower class patients. CONCLUSION: This study highlights patients' interest in TOETVA. Cervical scar perception is affected by concerned about appearance, particularly in certain societal subgroups. Our study population showed significant motivation to undergo TOETVA, which was emphasized by their acceptance of the complication rate, poor postoperative outcomes, greater postoperative pain, and willingness to spend on surgery with an invisible scar. OBJECTIVE: Describe a new, safe, technique that uses titanium mesh to partially cover skull defects immediately after decompressive craniectomy (DC). METHODS: This study is a retrospective review of 8 patients who underwent DC and placement of a titanium mesh. The mesh partially covered the defect and was placed between the temporalis muscle and the dura graft. The muscle was sutured to the mesh. All patients underwent cranioplasty at a later time. The study recorded and analyzed demographic information, time between surgeries, extra-axial fluid collections, postoperative infections, need for reoperation, cortical hemorrhages, and functional and aesthetic outcomes. RESULTS: After craniectomy, all patients underwent cranioplasty within an average of 112.5 days (30-240 days). One patient reported temporalis muscle atrophy, which was the only complication observed. During the cranioplasties, no adhesions were found between temporalis muscle, titanium mesh, and underlying dura. None of the patients showed complications in the follow-up computerized tomography scans. All patients had favorable aesthetic and functional results. CONCLUSIONS: Placing a titanium mesh as an extra step during DC could have antiadhesive and protective properties, facilitating subsequent cranioplasty by preventing adhesions and providing a clear surgical plane between the temporalis muscle and intracranial tissues. This technique also helps preserve the temporalis muscle and enhances functional and aesthetic outcomes postcranioplasty. Therefore, it represents a safe alternative to other synthetic anti-adhesive materials. Further studies are necessary to draw definitive conclusions and elucidate long-term outcomes, however, the results obtained hold great promise for the safety and efficacy of this technique.

This article analyzes the publications of women who suffer from Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) in Facebook groups. PCOS is a metabolic syndrome experienced by a vast number of women of childbearing age. Some of its main symptoms are acne, weight gain, and unwanted hair. On the other hand, the treatment focuses on changing the lifestyle associated with diet control and adopting new habits. The analysis of statements and pictures posted by the participants of the groups, which express their before-after transformations, reveals that diagnosis, treatment, and perception of PCOS are currently deeply associated with aesthetic factors. Finally, we discuss how this event is linked to the historically produced binary gender pattern centered on body differences and how it illustrates the emphasis on self-enhancement, especially concerning its expression in body and aesthetic standards.

This article discusses the performative gender constructions of female police chiefs working in Rio de Janeiro state. Using cartography as a research method, we follow the paths, connections, and construction of femininities, activated and performed by our respondents to establish a place of respect and prominence within and outside the Institution, using beauty as an aesthetic and discursive power tool based on the DeleGata performative class. Cartographic interviews were conducted with nine female police chiefs in Rio de Janeiro state aged 30 to 59. Although the police have historically valued recognized masculine ideals, such as strength and virility, the gender performativities operated by female police chiefs allow for police feminization. The figure/enunciation of DeleGata, who builds an image of the female police chief, implying a unity, signifies producing political subjects, ideas, and values that reach a communicative and performative standard, making visible some woman who adorns - with her beauty - and simultaneously surprises - with her intelligence. The DeleGata thus brings into play apparently antagonistic extremes: beauty-intelligence, sensuality-power, femininity-strength, producing a social and symbolic regimen for the production of bodies and femininities.

BACKGROUND: Among the nasal muscles, the levator labii superior alaeque nasi (LLSAN) acts as a transitional muscle that conjugates with other nasal and perinasal muscles. Thus, when treating the nasal region with Botulinum toxin (BTX), it is important to understand local nasal muscular dynamics and how they can influence the muscular dynamics of the entire face. METHODS: This is a retrospective analysis of cases treated by an injection pattern encompassing the face, including nasal muscles. Photographs were taken at rest and during motion (frontal and oblique views), before and after treatment. RESULTS: A total of 227 patients have been treated in the last 18 months with the following results: eyebrow tail lifting, softness of crow's feet, improvement of the drooping of the tip of the nose, and shortening of the lip philtrum when smiling. We present cases illustrating the use of this approach. CONCLUSIONS: Treating the facial muscles globally (including the frontal, corrugators, procerus, orbicularis oculi, platysma, DAO, and nasal muscles) can improve the smile and facial expressions. This is believed to occur because the elevated portion of the upper lip muscle becomes stronger as the nasal part of the LLSAN is paralyzed. INTRODUCTION: Hoodplasties and labia minora reductions are some of the most requested operative procedures by women distressed with the appearance of their vulvar region. In the majority of cases, a concomitant hoodplasty (HP) is performed to achieve a better aesthetic appearance. Various surgical methods have been described for the removal of excess tissue within the clitoris hood area. MATERIALS AND METHOD: This study aims to describe a single surgeon's preference and results in her private practise in 630 patients who underwent labiaplasty mainly because of dissatisfaction with the aesthetic appearance. RESULTS: Of the 630 labiaplasties performed, 303 had clitoris hood excess, 44% of cases with concomitant HP and in 7.9% of cases only a HP was performed. The study was done between September 2009 and December 2021 and the HP technique was longitudinal excision in 97% of patients and horseshoe excision in 4.95% of them. Surgeries lasted between 30 and 60 min. 98% of the patients claimed an improvement in self-esteem and 96% claimed improvement in sex life post-surgery. No major complications occurred. DISCUSSION: An isolated labiaplasty technique in patients with hood excess results in disharmony in the area. HP can be considered as a subdivision of a labioplasty. Extended central wedge labia minora resection (V-plasty) is a commonly used procedure in LP operations but can limit the excess clitoris hood resection. Edge labia minora resection can easily be combined with longitudinal excision of the clitoral hood, and when also horizontal clitoris hood excess is present can also be addressed by converting the resection from longitudinal into a horse hose resection. Limitations in the study include lack of use of validated assessments for the satisfaction of aesthetic outcomes and that all the procedures were performed by a single senior surgeon, which can be seen as a strength but also a limitation because of the high risk of bias. Moreover, there was no comparative cohort for the study population. Furthermore, we could not find comparative cohorts in previously reported techniques in the literature either. CONCLUSION: Clitoris hood resections should be treated on an individualized approach and adapted according to the excess present. It is important when a patient requests a labiaplasty to always address the clitoris hood during the consultation to avoid unsatisfied patients afterwards. Many patients come just focussed on their labia minora excess and when corrected, realize the clitoris hood excess was also part of the problem. INTRODUCTION: Post-burn hypertrophic scars are an important cause of physical discomfort, limitation of movements, psychological disorders, low self-esteem and reduced quality of life. Treatment for this condition is complex and involves several options. Microneedling, also known as minimally invasive percutaneous collagen induction, is an affordable minimally invasive option that can be combined with other treatments, including ablative ones. OBJECTIVE: The goal of this study was to present our microneedling approach for the treatment of hypertrophic scars after burns. METHOD: A prospective study of 15 patients with post-burn hypertrophic scars was conducted between October 2016 and June 2022. All patients were treated with microneedling and drug delivery of triamcinolone. Scars were evaluated using Vancouver Scar Scale (VSS), Burn Scar Assessment Scale (BSAS) and angle measurement for amplitude of movement evaluation of joints. RESULTS: A significant improvement in the VSS score was obtained after microneedling (8.8 ± 0.44 to 4.1 ± 0.98; p = 0.012), especially in the acute group (less than 1 year after burns): 9.3 ± 0.49 to 3.5 ± 1.36; p = 0.041. There was a significant and progressive improvement of the scars throughout the treatment sessions in all criteria evaluated and in the ranges of joint movement (p = 0.012). CONCLUSION: Our microneedling protocol promoted a significant improvement of post-burn scars, especially in acute hypertrophic scars, and in the amplitude of joint motion. Sequential treatments provided progressive improvement. LEVEL OF EVIDENCE IV: This journal requires that authors assign a level of evidence to each article. The dynamic retrograde intercrural columellar strut graft placement is a novel technique for a columellar strut insertion via a hemi-transfixion incision in patients undergoing endonasal functional or cosmetic surgery. It has a maximally concealed incision and does not disrupt major or minor tip support mechanisms. In our article, we give a detailed description of this unique surgical technique.

In it, Skinner considers the artistic production for establishing an equalitarian and happy social environment, mentioning, thus, an array of artworks. Given the theoretical-scientific relevance of the book, as well as its artistic diversity, this article aimed understand the artworks described in Walden two based on a classic and romantic traditional artistic styles. Excerpts of the book that mentioned keywords related to art were researched and compiled in tables and analyzed according to classical and romantic attributes, described by specialized texts. Six main artistic categories were identified in Skinnerian fiction (literature, theater, music, visual arts, architecture, and fashion), that show similar characteristics to classic rationalism and romantic sentimentalism, as well as other characteristics that differentiate them from these strands. In conclusion, the art on Walden two exists in a state of artistic pluralism, which also highlights the possibility of radical behaviorism being interpreted as a philosophy of art.(AU)

Abstract Objective To analyze the perception of older adults regarding their body image and self-esteem. Method A qualitative, exploratory, and descriptive study conducted with 28 older adults in the Social Assistance Reference Centers of Araucária, Paraná, Brazil. A structured interview with a questionnaire comprising 10 questions addressing feelings about aesthetics in aging and its repercussions on self-esteem was administered. Data analysis was performed using the IRAMUTEQ® software. Results The analysis of perception regarding aesthetics and self-esteem in aging resulted in 5 classes: Class 1 (19.8%) "Self-esteem vs. self-image", Class 2 (20.7%) "Feelings and sensations experienced", Class 3 (20.7%) "Aspects beyond appearance influencing self-esteem", Class 4 (18.1%) "Reasons for engaging in aesthetic care", and Class 5 (20.7%) "Types of interventions and aesthetic care". Elevated self-esteem was found in an economically vulnerable population. Many older adults reported changes in how they are treated with aging; however, this was not solely perceived negatively. Conclusion Despite societal promotion of a beauty standard, older adults can live satisfactorily with high self-esteem without being negatively influenced.
