Homoeopathic medicines are being increasingly scrutinized by regulatory authorities. There is considerable variation in methods of preparation and no generally accepted standard. The authors have tested 55 different mother tinctures for anti-bacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus, using a previously described method. Twenty mother tinctures were available from more than one manufacturer. In 40percent there were significant differences in anti-bacterial activity between tinctures from different manufacturers
