ABSTRACT
A descriptive, retrospective and longitudinal study was conducted in 1 119 patients with retinitis pigmentosa associated with glaucoma, who were attended at the Provincial Center of Retinitis Pigmentosa of Santiago de Cuba from 2004 to the second trimester of 2005 and who came from provincial centers of retinitis pigmentosa of the eastern territory. Some of analyzed variables were age, sex, and Cuban classification of the retinitis pigmentosa, type of glaucoma, inheritance and therapeutic variants. Of the total of patients in 5,4 percent association of retinitis pigmentosa with glaucoma was found, mainly in women and in the group between 41-60 years of age. Results of the investigation revealed that it is very important to take into account both diseases, which have common characteristics, cause a significant visual disability and worsen the prognosis when they are associated
