ABSTRACT
The chemical drug WR-2721 was tested for its radioprotective effect on rat's oral cavity normal tissues. The present study comprised of 30 rats, which were divided into 4 groups. The first group [10 rats] received 2000 cGy single dose of irradiation to head and neck region, The second group [10 rats] received he same dose of irradiation, but 30 minutes after injection of 400 mg/kg WR-2721 intraperitoneally. The third group [5 rats] received the same dose of WR-2721 without Irradiation. The fourth group [5 rats] received nothing and was considered as control. Two weeks after treatment, the skin of head and neck, cheek mucosa, mandible, maxilla and tongue of each animal was examined histopathologically for radiation reaction. The WR-2721 proved to produce and appreciable radioprotective effect of examined tissues with no apparent adverse reaction to the prescribed dose neither local nor systemic
