RESUMEN
Objetivo:
Describir el uso de linezolid en infecciones por Enterococcus resistente a vancomicina en un hospital pediátrico.Método:
Estudio retrospectivo, observacional de pacientes ingresados en el Hospital de Pediatría Juan P. Garrahan con indicación de linezolid para tratamiento de infección por Enterococcus resistente a vancomicina, durante el periodo de enero de 2002 a julio de 2004.Resultados:
Durante 18 meses, linezolid fue prescrito 17 veces para un total de 15 pacientes gravemente enfermos. La mediana de edad fue de 7 años (rango 1 mes-15 años) y la duración del tratamiento fue de 15 días promedio, con una mediana de estadía hospitalaria de 74 días. La infección por Enterococcus resistente a vancomicinase documentó microbiológicamente en 11 (73,3%)pacientes; todos respondieron al tratamiento con linezolid a excepción de dos que fallecieron durante el tratamiento. Las reacciones adversas más frecuentes fueron las hematológicas (55,5%).Conclusiones:
Linezolid fue efectivo y moderadamente bientolerado para el tratamiento de infecciones por Enterococcus resistente a vancomicina en niños con infecciones de riesgo de vida (AU)ABSTRACT
Objective:
To describe the use of linezolid in vancomycinr esistant Enterococcus infections in a paediatric hospital.Method:
Retrospective, observational study of hospitalised patients at the Juan P. Garrahan paediatric hospital receiving linezolid for the treatment of vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus, during the period between January 2002 and July 2004.Results:
During 18 months, linezolid was prescribed 17 times for a total of 15 seriously ill patients. The median age was 7 years old (range 1 month-15 years) and the median length of the treatment was 15 days, with an average hospital stay of 74 days.Infection with vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus was microbiologically documented in 11 (73.3%) patients; they all responded to treatment with linezolid with the exception of two, who died while receiving treatment. The most frequently reported adverse reactions were of a haematological nature (55.5%).Conclusions:
Linezolid was effective and moderately well tolerated for the treatment of vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus in children with life-threatening infections (AU)
