Myths, misperceptions, mistakes: a study of Trinidad adolescents

RESUMO

The objective of this study was (1) to understand the nature of adult aspirations in Trinidad and their sense of how well these aspirations can be met within society; (2) to identify the social support structures within which adolescents tussle with their hopes for the future and their apprehensions concerning themselves and their society; (3) to determine adolescents awareness of their sexuality and their attitudes toward a variety of questions having to do with mutual respect among the sexes, pregnancy, parenthood, contraceptives and contraception; (4) to identify unmet adolescent needs and suggest strategies through which these needs can be met.
