Prevenção e tratamento dos efeitos da radioterapia na cavidade oral / Prevetion and treatment of effects of radiotherapy in the mouth

RESUMO

A radioterapia é comumente utilizada no tratamento do câncer de cabeça e pescoço. Este trabalho mostra a importância da participação multidisciplinar no tratamento oncológico, onde a Odontologia visa prevenir ou aliviar algumas seqüelas causadas pela radiação. O tratamento odontológico deve ser iniciado antes do tratamento radioterápico e continuar durante e após a terapia.

ABSTRACT

Radiotherapy is commonly used in the treatment of head and neck cancer. This work shows the importance of the multidisciplinar participation in the oncology treatment where the odontology aims to prevent or to relief some sequels caused by radiation. Odontology treatment should be initiated before the radiotherapy treatment and continue during and after the end of the therapy.
