ABSTRACT
The peri-implant disease is an inflammatory condition, which can be found in two stages peri-implant mucositis and periimplantitis; the latter identified with more severe and bone around the implants in the loss function being. The peri-implantitis is characterized by changes in some clinical parameters that assist in diagnosis probing depth, bleeding, edema, presence of suppuration, bone loss, among others. Its primary etiological factor to bacterial infection and/or biomechanical overload. Moreover, the presences of some risk indicators contribute to the progression of the disease and if this condition is not treated, consequently, lead to loss of the implant. Various methods have been introduced to treat peri-implantitis, but the surgery is chosen because it shows to be the most effective in treating the disease. The essential condition for the treatment of peri-implantitis is effectively decontaminating the surface of the implant can be achieved by the technique known implantoplasty. This technique consists in smoothing the threads of the drill with implants that were exposed to the oral environment as experienced bone loss due to the presence of bacteria of peri-implantitis. Its purpose is to reduce the adhesion of the plate to facilitate cleaning of the surface of the implant by the patient and to improve the adaptation of the junctional epithelium. Thus, this study aims to elucidate, through a literature review, technical implantoplasty as treatment of peri-implantitis.
