[Immunochemical study of antigenic determinants of surface protein s of the tropical malaria pathogen Plasmodium falciparum using synthetic peptides]. / Immunokhimicheskoe izuchenie antigennykh determinant poverkhnostnykh belkov vozbuditelia tropicheskoi maliarii Plasmodium falciparum s pomoshch'iu sinteticheskikh peptidov.

To develop new approaches to diagnostics and therapy of malaria, we carried out immunochemical study of the surface proteins of the tropical malaria parasite Plasmodium falciparum with the use of synthetic peptides corresponding to the suggested antigenic determinants of the parasite proteins. Rabbit antisera raised against the synthetic peptides bound to parasite proteins as shown by ELISA and immunoblotting. Affinity purified anti-peptide antibodies inhibited, in some cases, the parasite growth in the human erythrocytes culture.

[Synthesis of acridine derivatives of amino acid hydrazines and their antimalarial activity]. / Sintez akridinovykh proizvodnykh gidrazidov aminokislot i ikh protivomaliariinaia aktivnost'.

2-Methoxy-6-chloroacridine-9-yl- and 2-ethoxy-6-nitroacridine-9-yl-hydrazides of glycine, alpha- and beta-alanines, gamma-aminobutiric acid, epsilon-aminocaproic acid have been synthesized and their antimalarial activity has been investigated. The compounds were found to inhibit the growth of malaria parasite P. falciparum in in vitro cultures. Fifty per cent inhibitory concentrations ranged from 2 x 10(-7) to 6 x 10(-7) M and corresponded to therapeutic concentrations of known quinoline and acridine antimalarial drugs. The beta-alanine and gamma-aminobutiric acid derivatives were the most active and showed high activity against a chloroquine resistant strain of P. falciparum.

[A method for the quantitative determination of reticulocytes in induced reticulocytosis]. / Sposob kolichestvennogo opredeleniia retikulotsitov pri indutsirovannom retikulotsitoze.

A technique accelerating and simplifying the determination of reticulocyte counts in animals with reticulocytosis has been suggested. The results are correctly evaluated without microscopy. The technique can be also used for the identification of patients with hemolytic anemias, especially in field conditions. An application for the technique developed has been submitted and positive approval has been obtained on November 20, 1987.

A new method for checking up the quality of membrane filters for culture medium sterilization is proposed. A 50 ml syringe is used instead of "Millipore" system. The proposed method helps do without the expensive "Millipore" system to check the hermeticity, integrity of membrane filters, and to save operation time used for their preparation.
