RESUMEN

Impaction of the maxillary canine is not a rare affection. A correct treatment can be appointed only after a serious evaluation of the case. In this work, the Authors describe clinical and radiographic methods which give the possibility to make a correct diagnostic evaluation of the maxillary canine impaction. A correct radiographic analysis could allow to three-dimensionally locate the impacted teeth and to show resorptions or ankylosis. Literature reports a great number of radiographic analysis; conventional methods can be used in simple cases, but, in difficult cases, some Authors suggest to use five different projections. New technologies in digital radiology allow to have high quality images, using which it is possible to make a diagnosis of great accuracy, also in difficult cases. Bidimensional images can show little particulars; three-dimensional images give the possibility to understand immediately the problems of the case also to not expert operators. The rate of radiation absorbed by the patient is similar to a panoramic radiograph. These characteristics make CT the method of election in difficult cases of maxillary canine impaction.

RESUMEN

After an initial review of the terminology adopted in cranio-cervico-mandibular dysfunctions the two possible forms of treatment indicated by instrumental kinesiography--coronoplasty and orthotic therapy--are described. Since the second is provisional, lasting about 6 months, definitive treatment whether prosthetic, orthodontic or mixed is then required. The concepts and techniques of definitive orthodontic treatment are described in detail with particular emphasis on the programming of the definitive occlusal plane, the biomechanics and the extrusion system. The report ends with a description of a clinical case.

RESUMEN

The authors examine the dental and skeletal alterations consequent to the use of radiotherapy as the elective method of treating retinoblastoma, an endobulbar neuroectodermal tumour typical of early infancy. The authors revise the basic concepts of radiobiology and the modifications induced by radiation in developing tissues with reference to both alterations at a microscopic (histological) level and those at a macroscopic level, namely of a morphological and structural nature. In the first part of the study the authors examine the damage to dental structures relating to both developing tissues and damage to mature tissue. The second part of the paper analyses radiation damage on cartilage and bone tissues in the process of formation and the authors present their documentation in the form of iconographic and radiographic material together with an esthetic face analysis performed using Ricketts' [correction of Rickettz's] method in three cases referred to their attention.

RESUMEN

The Authors report a cephalometric analysis of soft tissues profile to help the orthodontist to do a correct treatment plane referred to the three thirds of the face and not limited to the lower one only. This analysis is related to adult patients, and because the well known considerations about development of the soft tissues, it should be a predictable analysis of soft tissues profile at the end of growth.

RESUMEN

A review of the physical properties of the magnetic fields is reported. Particular attention has been paid to the biological and clinical aspects of the electromagnetic fields applied to living structures of cells and bone tissue both susceptible to this exposition.

RESUMEN

The authors after preliminary remarks on new magnetic alloys, stress some biomechanic aspects related to distalization of upper molars. Radiologic examination of teeth during distalization shows a good rate of crown/tooth ratio movement. Where magnets were worn in combination with extraoral traction, they seemed to be more effective on the "test" sides rather than on the "control" sides where only extraoral forces acted.
