RESUMO

Sulfamic acid-intercalated MgAl-LDH (SA-LDH) was prepared by an anion exchange method, and its structure was characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). SA-LDH was introduced into polyamide 11 (PA11) by melt blending and to enhance the flame retardancy and mechanical properties. The scanning electron microscope (SEM) and XRD data showed that the lamellar structure of SA-LDH was partly disrupted. The cone calorimeter (CCT) results demonstrated that SA-LDH could effectively decrease the value of heat release rate, which may be ascribed to the better distribution of SA-LDH compared to LHD in the PA11 matrix. The effects of SA-LDH on the crystal behaviors of PA11 were investigated by XRD and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), indicating that SA-LDH could induce the formation of new crystal forms and served as a heterogeneous nucleating agent. The mechanical progress caused by the incorporation of SA-LDH was correlated with compatibility improvement between SA-LDH and PA11.

RESUMO

The skin, as the largest organ of human body, can use ions as information carriers to convert multiple external stimuli into biological potential signals. So far, artificial skin that can imitate the functionality of human skin has been extensively investigated. However, the demand for additional power, non-reusability and serious damage to the skin greatly limits applications. Here, we have developed a self-powered gradient hydrogel which has high temperature-triggered adhesion and room temperature-triggered easy separation characteristics. The self-powered gradient hydrogels are polymerized using 2-(dimethylamino) ethyl metharcylate (DMAEMA) and N-isopropylacrylamide (NIPAM) under unilateral UV irradiation. The prepared hydrogels achieve good adhesion at high temperature and detachment at a low temperature. In addition, according to the thickness-dependent potential of the gradient hydrogel, the hydrogels can also sense pressure changes. This strategy can inspire the design and manufacture of self-powered gradient hydrogel sensors, contributing to the development of complex intelligent artificial skin sensing systems in the future.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Pseudomyxoma peritonei (PMP) is a rare benign, but progressive, disease according to myxoma histopathology. Surgical resection is the preferred and most effective treatment, but the outcomes are often unsatisfactory. CASE SUMMARY: A 63-year-old Chinese woman with PMP received apatinib at a daily dose of 0.5 mg for 15 d per cycle and at a daily dose of 0.4 mg to date for recurrent abdominal distension after surgical treatment and hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy. During the follow-up period, apatinib was the maintenance treatment with a progression-free period of 10 mo and the toxicity of apatinib was controllable and tolerable. Unfortunately, recurrence occurred 10 mo after administration. After two operations, the patient gave up treatment at the 18th mo and eventually died of intestinal obstruction and multiple organ failure. CONCLUSION: Apatinib may be an option for recurrent PMP after surgical treatment, but this conclusion remains to be confirmed.
