Sonication is recognized as a potential food processing method to improve the functional properties of fruit juice. This study evaluated the effects of different sonication durations (20, 40, and 60 min) and thermal pasteurization on the nutritional, antioxidant, and microbial properties of noni juice. Fresh noni juice served as the control. The main organic acids detected were malic (57.54−89.31 mg/100 mL) and ascorbic (17.15−31.55 mg/100 mL) acids. Compared with the fresh sample, the concentrations of these compounds were significantly improved (p < 0.05) in the 60 min sonicated sample but reduced (p < 0.05) in the pasteurized sample. Moreover, sonication for 60 min resulted in increments of scopoletin, rutin, and vanillic acid compared to the fresh sample. The antioxidant activity of the juice sample was improved in the sample sonicated for 60 min. Irrespective of juice processing method, the level of microbial counts in noni juice was within the satisfactory level over the 8 weeks of refrigerated (4 °C) storage. This study highlights the feasibility of using ultrasound processing to enhance the quality of noni juice on the industrial scale.

There is an increasing demand for anticancer agent in treating colorectal cancer (CRC) with frequently mutated TP53 and KRAS genes. Phytochemical compounds are suitable as chemoprevention for CRC since dietary factor is a major risk factor. Anthraquinones from Morinda citrifolia L. were previously reported with various pharmacological properties. Various in vitro experiments were conducted to investigate the effects of two anthraquinones: damnacanthal and morindone on the cell proliferation, cell cycle, apoptosis, gene expression and protein expression in two CRC cells: HCT116 and HT29. Real-time monitoring of CRC cells showed that both anthraquinones exerted significant anti-proliferative effects in a dose- and time-dependent manner. Next, cell cycle analysis revealed an increase in the percentage of CRC cells in the G1 phase under anthraquinones treatment. Fluorescence microscopy also showed an increment of apoptotic cells under anthraquinones' treatment. siRNA transfection was conducted to evaluate the mediating effect of gene knockdown on mutated TP53 and KRAS in CRC cells. Before transfection, qRT-PCR analysis showed that only morindone downregulated the gene expression of mutated TP53 and KRAS and then further downregulated them after transfection. Both damnacanthal and morindone treatments further downregulated the expression of these two genes but upregulated at the protein expression level. Furthermore, gene knockdown also sensitised CRC cells to both damnacanthal and morindone treatments, resulting in lowered IC50 values. The accumulation of cells at the G1 phase was reduced after gene knockdown but increased after damnacanthal and morindone treatments. In addition, gene knockdown has increased the number of apoptotic cells in both cell lines and further increment was observed after anthraquinone treatment. In conclusion, morindone could be a competitive therapeutic agent in CRC by exhibiting multiple mechanism of anti-cancer actions.

Morindone, a natural anthraquinone compound, has been reported to have significant pharmacological properties in different cancers. However, its anticancer effects in colorectal cancer (CRC) and the underlying molecular mechanisms remain obscure. In this study, RNA sequencing was used to assess the differentially expressed genes (DEGs) following morindone treatment in two CRC cell lines, HCT116 and HT29 cells. Functional enrichment analysis of overlapping DEGs revealed that negative regulation of cell development from biological processes and the MAPK signalling pathway were the most significant Gene Ontology terms and Kyoto Encyclopaedia of Genes and Genome pathway, respectively. Seven hub genes were identified among the overlapping genes, including MCM5, MCM6, MCM10, GINS2, POLE2, PRIM1, and WDHD1. All hub genes were found downregulated and involved in DNA replication fork. Among these, GINS2 was identified as the most cancer-dependent gene in both cells with better survival outcomes. Validation was performed on seven hub genes with rt-qPCR, and the results were consistent with the RNA sequencing findings. Collectively, this study provides corroboration of the potential therapeutic benefits and suitable pharmacological targets of morindone in the treatment of CRC.

This study aimed to evaluate the genotoxic potential of the fruit and seed powder, fruit puree, and aqueous extracts of Morinda citrifolia (Rubiaceae, noni). The genotoxic potential of the noni substances was evaluated using in vitro Ames, in vitro chromosomal aberration, and in vivo micronucleus tests. All test procedures were conducted per Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development guidelines, and good laboratory practice. None of the noni fruit test substances showed genotoxic signs up to 5000 and 2000 µg/plate in the Ames and micronucleus tests, respectively. In the chromosomal aberration test, neither the fruit puree nor aqueous extract showed structural and numerical aberrations up to 5000 and 4650 µg/mL, respectively, irrespective of metabolic activation, in both 6 h and 24 h treatment groups. The safe ranges of noni fruit and seed powders were up to 2500 and 2100 µg/mL, respectively, in the 6 h treatment group and up to 1600-4100 and 370-450 µg/mL, respectively, in both 6 h and 24 h treatment groups in the presence of metabolic activation. Noni fruit and seeds were safe in terms of genotoxicity under our experimental conditions. Our data are the first to provide valuable genotoxic information on Morinda citrifolia.

This study aims to determine the immunomodulatory effects of a polysaccharide fraction from fermented M. citrifolia L. (FMP) in RAW 264.7 macrophages and Balb/c mice. M. citrifolia was fermented for 72 h using Lactobacillus brevis; polysaccharides were extracted using ethanol precipitation. The RAW 264.7 cells exposed to FMP (50, 100, and 200 µg/mL) for 24 h showed increased NO production, proinflammatory cytokine (IL-1ß, IL-6, and TNF-α) release, and COX-2 and iNOS protein expression. FMP (100, 200 mg/kg) and deacetylasperulosidic acid (DAA) (20 mg/kg) administered orally to Balb/c mice for 14 days upregulated NO production and NK cytotoxicity in abdominal cavity and spleen, respectively. Th1 and Th2 cytokines production and immune cell numbers increased in spleen, mesenteric lymph nodes (MLN), peritoneal exudate cells (PEC), Peyer's patches (PP), and peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMC). Therefore, FMP containing DAA can be used as materials for health functional foods to enhance immune responses.

This study focused on the relationship between content levels of phytochemicals and the biological activities of noni (Morinda Citrifolia L.) fruit extracts (NFEs) prepared with traditional solvents and deep eutectic solvents (DESs). The results indicated the total phenolic content in Bet-Gly (Betaine: Glycerol) extracts (11.89 mg GAE/g DW) and total iridoid content in 70% ethanol extracts (26.38 mg CE/g DW) were the highest. A total of 17 compounds were identified and quantified in NFEs. Traditional solvent extracts, except ethyl acetate, exhibited higher antioxidant activities than DESs. Three DES extracts showed higher activities against pancreatic lipase than traditional solvent extracts. Multivariate analysis revealed that the type of extraction solvent exerts a significant influence on the phytochemical compositions and biological activities of NFEs. This study provided valuable information on the efficient extraction of phytochemicals from noni fruits and DESs are promising green solvent for the extraction of bioactive compounds from noni fruits.

Scopoletin is regarded as a major constituent of noni (Morinda citrifolia L), which contributes to the antioxidative, anti-inflammatory, immunomodulatory, and hepatoprotective properties in noni. It is also suggested as a marker for identification and quality control of noni and its derivative products. With the increasing interest in noni due to its health benefits and therapeutic effects, it is important to establish a reliable extraction and analysis method to determine scopoletin content in noni samples. The present study proposes the use of accelerated solvent extraction (ASE) to extract scopoletin from noni, followed by detection using HPLC-DAD for rapid identification and quantification of scopoletin. The optimum operating conditions of ASE were investigated using response surface methodology (RSM), using a three factors central composite design. It was found that the optimum scopoletin yield was achieved by performing the extraction at an elevated temperature of 60 °C for 12 min, using ethanol as extraction solvent with solid to solvent ratio of 1:30 (w/v). The analytical method validation was carried out under optimum conditions. The results indicate that the proposed ASE-HPLC-DAD method was adequately sensitive for the quantification of scopoletin in extracts with limit of detection of 0.17 µg/g. The presented method also exhibits excellent linearity from 0.54 to 120.10 µg/g with R2 0.9995, high precision with RSD lower than 2% for intra-day and inter-day replication, and good recovery (99.88%). The established method was also successfully applied for scopoletin determination in noni product samples. The developed method provides a rapid and reliable method for the identification and quantification of scopoletin in noni samples that is suitable for routine procedures.

ETHNOPHARMACOLOGICAL RELEVANCE: Inflammation has been known to possess some essential roles in many diseases, especially those with chronic or severe conditions. Pikad Tri-phol-sa-mut-than, a Thai traditional herbal remedy, has long been used to treat gastrointestinal sicknesses, fever, and severe illness caused by the deformities of Tridosha. In particular, this recipe has also been applied for inflammation-related conditions including gout and rheumatoid arthritis. The Pikad Tri-phol-sa-mut-than recipe consists of dried fruits of three herbs including Aegle marmelos (L.) Corrêa, Morinda citrifolia L., and Coriandrum sativum L. Each of these plant components of Pikad Tri-phol-sa-mut-than exhibited anti-inflammatory activities. However, anti-inflammatory effect of Pikad Tri-phol-sa-mut-than remedy has not been reported. AIM OF THE STUDY: The objective of this study was to elucidate the anti-inflammatory activities of Pikad Tri-phol-sa-mut-than extract (TS) against acute and chronic inflammation in rats. MATERIALS AND METHODS: To study the effects of TS on acute inflammation, ethyl phenylpropiolate (EPP)-induced ear edema, carrageenan- and arachidonic acid (AA)-induced hind paw edema models were carried out. In addition, cotton pellet-induced granuloma formation was performed to specify the inhibitory effects of TS on chronic inflammation. RESULTS: The topical application of TS significantly inhibited EPP-induced ear edema in rats. In the carrageenan- and AA-induced paw edema models, the oral administration of TS significantly reduced paw volumes, compared to those of the control groups. In addition, the 7-day oral treatment of TS demonstrated a significant suppressive effect on cotton pellet-induced granuloma formation. CONCLUSIONS: The current study revealed that TS possesses anti-inflammatory activities against acute and chronic inflammation. Our studies support the use of TS in traditional medicine, and the development of TS as a novel natural product for treating diseases associated with inflammation.

Androgenic alopecia (AA) is a condition that most commonly affects adult men and is caused by an increase in the hormone dihydrotestosterone (DHT) in the hair follicles. Anti-alopecia drugs should be discovered for hair follicles to enter the anagen growth phase. Therefore, this study evaluated the hair growth-promoting activity of Noni fruit's water, ethyl acetate, n-hexane fractions, and sub-fractions from the active fraction in the alopecia male white rabbit model. The Matias method was modified by inducing rabbits using DHT for 17 days, followed by topical application of Noni fruit solution for 21 days. Meanwhile, hair growth was evaluated by histological observation of the follicular density and the anagen/telogen (A/T) ratio in skin tissue. In the first stage, five groups of male white rabbits were studied to obtain the active fraction; DHT+Minoxidil as standard, DHT+vehicle (NaCMC 1%), DHT+FW, DHT+FEA, and DHT+FH. The FEA as the active fraction was followed by open-column chromatography separation (DCM:Methanol) with a gradient of 10% to produce sub-fractions. In the second stage, the six main sub-fraction groups of male rabbits studied were DHT+FEA-1 to DHT+FEA-6. The follicular density of groups FEA-3 was 78.00 ± 1.52 compared with 31.55 ± 1.64 and 80.12 ± 1.02 in the Vehicle and Minoxidil groups. Additionally, group FEA-3 showed large numbers of anagen follicles with an A/T ratio of 1.64/1 compared to the vehicle group of 1/1.50 and 1.39/1 for Minoxidil control. Group FEA-3 was identified by LC-MS/MS-QTOF, followed by molecular docking to the androgen receptor (PDB: 4K7A), causing alopecia. The results showed that three alkaloid compounds with skeleton piperazine and piperidine, namely (compounds 2 (−4.99 Kcal/mol), 3 (−4.60 Kcal/mol), and 4 (−4.57 Kcal/mol)) had a binding affinity similar to Minoxidil, with also has alkaloid skeleton piperidine−pyrimidine (−4.83 Kcal/mol). The dynamic behavior showed the stability of all androgen receptor compounds with good RMSD, SMSF, and SASA values after being studied with 100 ns molecular dynamics (MD) simulations. This study produced a common thread in discovering a class of alkaloid compounds as inhibitors of androgen receptors that cause alopecia.

Noni (Morinda citrifolia L.) has been recognized as an important herb for treating various physiological disorders worldwide. Fermented noni fruit juice, established as a novel food in European Union, is the most important noni product. However, the structure, functions and enzyme profiles of microbiome during fermentation remain unclear. The metatranscriptomic was used to comprehensively explore the active microbial community and key metabolic function. Acetobacter sp., Acetobacter aceti and Gluconobacter sp. were the major microorganisms and appeared in succession during fermentation. According to principal components analysis (PCA) of metabolism-related unigenes by KEGG database, the fermentation process was divided into three stages and almost completed at the end of the second stage. Furthermore, carbohydrate-active enzymes (CAZymes) and the expression of key enzymes in major metabolic pathways were analyzed systematically. Analysis by HS-SPME-GC-MS and odor active value (OAV) revealed that butanoic acid and hexanoic acid were the main volatile compounds for the unpleasant odor of fermented noni fruit juice. The microbiome in the fermentation process lacked key enzymes that degrade butanoic acid and hexanoic acid, which imparted rancid and sweat odor. This study provides theoretical basis for product improvement and new product development, thus promoting the development of noni food industry.

The plant Morinda citrifolia L. (Noni) has been the subject of several recent research due to its positive impact on the treatment and prevention of a variety of diseases. Noni fruits contain a variety of phytochemicals, including flavonoid, polyphenol, and triterpenoid saponin. This study aimed to determine the best pre-treatment (including blanching, soaking in ascorbic acid solution and metabisulfite solution) and air-drying temperature (50, 60, 70, and 80 °C) to maximize the total polyphenol content (TPC), flavonoid content (TFC), and triterpenoid saponin contents (TSC) of the resultant Noni fruit powder. The results revealed that pre-soaked Noni fruit samples in ascorbic acid or metabisulfite solution before air-drying at 60 °C were beneficial in preserving TPC, TFC, and TSC. TPC, TFC, and TSC losses increased as drying temperatures (70 and 80 °C) rose. The optimum sample was held at five different relative humidity conditions until they attained weight equilibrium. The results indicated that the sorption isotherm curve of the Noni powder was the sigmoid shape and fitted with the BET and GAB models.

Noni (Morindacitrifolia L.), a tropical, medicinal plant of the family Rubiaceae utilized since 2000 y ago by the Polynesians, is currently facing a major challenge in production vis-a-vis climate change. The worldwide average temperatures continue to fluctuate, resulting in extremely cold winters and hot summers that reduce plant productivity. Photosynthetic apparatus is an exceptionally sensitive component to estimate the degree of damage at contrasting temperatures. The present study was aimed to evaluate the temperature stress response of Noni plant using the chlorophyll a fluorescence OJIP transients (OJIP transients). Results showed the declined photosynthetic pigment pool and reduced functional and structural integrity of the photosynthetic apparatus under very low- and high-temperature treatments. Drastically lower yield parameters such as φ(Po) and φ(Eo), efficiency ψ(Eo) and performance indices - PIabs and PItotal, and accumulation of inactive reaction centers were observed. Consecutively, a lower level of calculated electron transport from PSII to PSI was observed. In contrast, the enhanced δRo indicates that PSI is more thermo-tolerant as compared to PSII. Additionally, very low and high temperatures cause an increase in antenna size (ABS/RC) and the decrease in the amplitude of I to P phase of fluorescence transient. Overall, the photosynthetic apparatus of leaf tissue was more sensitive to low and high temperatures than the developing fruit. The findings of the present study demonstrated the potential role of thylakoid components of the photosynthetic apparatus, which might be crucial in regulating the temperature stress response in the Noni plant, and thereby crop improvement.

The Pikad Tri-phol-sa-mut-than (TS) remedy, a Thai traditional medicine, is officially recorded in Tamra Paetsart Sonkrau Chabub Anurak for its capabilities in treating kidney deficiency. TS remedy is composed of three fruit species-Aegle marmelos (L.) Corrêa., Coriandrum sativum L., and Morinda citrifolia L.-in an equal part by weight. The quality of the raw material is one of the essential factors that can affect the effectiveness and safety of treatment by herbal remedy. The pharmacognostic evaluation and DNA barcode of the three fruit species and TS remedy were performed in this study to authenticate them from contamination, and to provide the scientific database for further uses. Macroscopic and microscopic examination, chemical profile by TLC, and DNA barcoding were employed to positively identify the raw materials bought from the herbal market, especially the powder form. Consequently, the outcomes of this investigation can be used to develop an essential and effective tool for the authentication of crude drugs and herbal remedies.

Morinda citrifolia L. (Rubiaceae), commonly called noni, is a medicinal plant that is often used as botanical dietary supplement. This study is the first to report and characterize the complete chloroplast genome of M. citrifolia. We found that it contains 153,113 bp with a GC content of 38.05%, consisting of two inverted repeat regions (IRs, 25,588 bp), a large single-copy region (LSC, 83,974 bp), and a small single copy (SSC, 17,963 bp) region. One hundred and twenty-five genes were annotated, including 84 protein-coding genes, 33 transfer RNA (tRNA) genes, and 8 ribosomal RNA (rRNA) genes. Phylogenetic analysis showed that M. citrifolia and Gynochthodes officinalis were closely related. Overall, this study provided a wealth of information for a follow-up phylogenetic and evolutionary study of the Gentianales.

Microencapsulation of fermented noni juice (FNJ) into powder format could protect bioactive compounds, reduce the unpleasant odour and improve the acceptability for consumers. Blends of maltodextrin (MD) and gum acacia (GA) were used to achieve spray-drying microencapsulation of noni juice at different blending ratios. The physicochemical properties including microstructure, moisture content, water activity, particle size, bulk/tapped density, dissolution rate, ATR-FTIR and the bioaccessibility of bioactive compounds in powders during in vitro digestion were examined. Results showed that blends produced with more GA produced microcapsules with lower moisture content, water activity and bulk/tapped density, but slower powder dissolution. The ATR-FTIR results suggested that there were no significant chemical interactions between the core material and carrier or between the MD and GA in the blend powders. The spray-dried noni juice powder produced using the blends with higher ratio of GA to MD showed a better protection on the bioactive compounds, resulting in a higher bioaccessibility of powders during in vitro digestion. This study provides insights into microencapsulation of noni juice using blends of MD and GA and examines the physicochemical properties and bioaccessibilities of spray-dried powders as affected by the selected carriers.

This work reports the characterisation of caseinolytic and milk-clotting activities of proteases extracted from ripe fruits of Morinda citrifolia L., as a potential of their use in cheese production. Noni puree extract (NPE) was obtained by homogenising the fresh puree in 150 mM NaCl/50 mM sodium phosphate buffer (pH 7.0). The resulting protein concentration was of 0.367 ±â€¯0.006 mg/mL, and an electrophoretic profile of the extract revealed protein bands ranging from 14 to 55 kDa. The proteolytic activity of NPE was higher when the extract had been previously incubated at pH 6.0 (8.859 ±â€¯0.216 U/mg), whereas the optimum caseinolytic activity was observed at 50 °C. Noni puree proteases were strongly (98%) inhibited by iodoacetamide and E-64, suggesting the presence of only cysteine proteases in the crude extract. NPE proteases showed a milk-clotting activity (MCA) of 238.80 ±â€¯5.29 U/mL, a specific milk-clotting activity (SMCA) of 9950.17 ±â€¯220.74 U/mg, and an SMCA/PA ratio of 1124.31 ±â€¯24.94, this last being comparable to those of commercial calf rennet. The cheese manufactured using NPE presented brittle and soft texture, high humidity, and showed sanitary conditions compatible with current Brazilian regulations. The product showed a slightly bitter taste, but still good acceptability, rating between 6 and 7 in the hedonic scale for flavour, texture, and overall acceptance. Lastly, there was 60% of positive purchase intent, demonstrating that noni fruit is a promising source of milk-clotting enzymes for the dairy industry.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: Fermented noni (Morinda citrifolia L.) fruit juice is considered as one of the health-promoting beverage. The food industries are working on further improvement of fermented noni juice. The objective of the current study was to assess the impact of green tea (GT) extract during the lactic acid bacteria (Lactobacillus plantarum SK15) mediated fermentation of noni fruit juice. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The clean-diced noni fruits were blended with sugar, water, 10% SK15 and GT extract. The mixture was kept at 30°C for 25 days. During fermentation, samples were collected. The changes in pH, acidity, alcohol, sugar, pectin content, total phenolic content (TPC), antioxidant capacity (AC), pectin methylesterase (PME) activity and microbial load were assessed. RESULTS: The fermented noni fruit juice exhibited significantly low pH, sugar and pectin content. TPC and AC were increased after fermentation. The alcohol content, especially methanol volume was increased in all the samples but not exceed the lethal level. The samples with GT extract exhibited superior quality in all measured aspects. Notably, PME activity was suppressed by GT extract, which was reflected in the methanol content of the respective samples when compared to control. CONCLUSION: The results suggested that GT extract could be used in the production of fermented plant beverages to prevent the indigenous PME activity (to reduce the methanol formation) and to improve the AC of the product. Further studies are required to know the fate of other phytochemicals and volatile compounds in noni fruit juice during fermentation.

The leaves of Morinda citrifolia L. (noni) have been utilized in a variety of commercial products marketed for their health benefits. This paper reports on a rapid and selective HPLC method for simultaneous characterization and quantitation of four flavonols in an ethanolic extract of noni leaves by using dual detectors of UV (365nm) and ESI-MS (negative mode). The limits of detection and quantitation were between 0.012 and 0.165µg/mL. The intra- and inter-assay precisions, in terms of percent relative standard deviation, are less than 4.38% and 3.50%, respectively. The accuracy, in terms of recovery percentage, ranged from 96.66% to 100.03%. Good linearity (correlation coefficient >0.999) for each calibration curve of standards was achieved in the range investigated. The contents of four flavonoids in the noni leaves varied from 1.16 to 371.6mg/100g dry weight.

In the present study, we aimed to evaluate the antibacterial activity of a lipid transfer protein isolated from Morinda citrifolia L. seeds, named McLTP1, and to investigate its effect in the cecal ligation and puncture (CLP) mouse sepsis model. Antimicrobial assays revealed that McLTP1 (12.5-800 µg/mL) significantly reduced Staphylococcus aureus (ATCC 6538P and ATCC 14458) and Staphylococcus epidermidis (ATCC 12228) planktonic growth, reaching maximal inhibition of approximately 50% and 98%, respectively. Furthermore, McLTP1 inhibited biofilm formation of both S. aureus strains, achieving percentages ranging from 39.1% to 69.1% (200-800 µg/mL) for ATCC 6538P and 34.4%-63% (12.5-800 µg/mL) for ATCC 14458. A synergistic interaction between McLTP1 and oxacillin against S. aureus and S. epidermidis was also observed, as determined by fractional inhibitory concentration indices of 0.18 and 0.38, respectively. McLTP1 showed no significant inhibitory effect against Gram-negative bacteria. In the in vivo experiments, sepsis was lethal to 83% of the animals, 72 h after CLP. In contrast, 100% of the animals treated with McLTP1 (8 mg/kg) before (intraperitoneal injection or oral dose) or after (oral dose) CLP were still alive 3 days later. In addition, oral or intraperitoneal administration of McLTP1 (8 mg/kg) significantly reduced the body weight loss, fever, leukocytosis, organ damage, and the level of inflammatory serum cytokines induced by sepsis. In conclusion, McLTP1 could be exploited for its antimicrobial properties, and can be considered a potential therapeutic candidate for the management of clinical sepsis.

Cultural and economic shifts in the early 19th century led to the rapid development of companies that made good profits from technologically-produced commodities. In this way, some habits changed in society, such as the overconsumption of processed and micronutrient-poor foods and devices that gave rise to a sedentary lifestyle. These factors influenced host-microbiome interactions which, in turn, mediated the etiopathogenesis of "new-era" disorders and diseases, which are closely related, such as obesity, type 2 diabetes mellitus, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, hypertension, and inflammatory bowel disease, which are characterized by chronic dysregulation of metabolic and immune processes. These pathological conditions require novel and effective therapeutic approaches. Morindacitrifolia (noni) is well known as a traditional healing plant due to its medicinal properties. Thus, many studies have been conducted to understand its bioactive compounds and their mechanisms of action. However, in obesity and obesity-related metabolic (dysfunction) syndrome, other studies are necessary to better elucidate noni's mechanisms of action, mainly due to the complexity of the pathophysiology of obesity and its metabolic dysfunction. In this review, we summarize not only the clinical effects, but also important cell signaling pathways in in vivo and in vitro assays of potent bioactive compounds present in the noni plant which have been reported in studies of obesity and obesity-associated metabolic dysfunction.
