RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the diagnostic accuracy of aspartate aminotransferase(AST)/ alanine transaminase (ALT), AST to platelet ratio index (APRI), fibrosis-4 score (FIB-4) and gamma-glutamyl transpeptidase to platelet count ratio (GPR) for hepatic fibrosis in patients with chronic hepatitis B (CHB). METHODS: A total of 1210 CHB patients who underwent liver biopsy were divided into two groups: patients with no significant fibrosis (control group) and patients with significant fibrosis, and routine laboratory tests were retrospectively included. Logistic regression models were used for the prediction, and the area under the receiver operating characteristic (AUROC) was used to assess the diagnostic accuracy. RESULTS: A total of 631 (52.1%) and 275 (22.7%) patients had significant fibrosis (≥ S2) and advanced fibrosis (≥ S3), respectively. The GPR showed significantly higher diagnostic accuracy than that of APRI, FiB-4, and AST/ALT to predict ≥ S2(significant fibrosis) and ≥ S3 fibrosis(advanced fibrosis), with an AUROC was 0.69 (95%CI: 0.66-0.71) and 0.72 (0.69-0.75), respectively. After stratified by the status of HBeAg ( positive or negative), GPR, APRI, and FiB-4 showed improved predicting performance for significant fibrosis and advanced fibrosis in HBeAg positive patients, with the most significant improvement was shown for GPR in predicting significant fibrosis (AUROC = 0.74, 95%CI: 0.70-0.78). CONCLUSIONS: Among the four noninvasive models, GPR has the best performance in the diagnosis of hepatic fibrosis in CHB patients and is more valuable in HBeAg-positive patients.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: The situation of mental health and discipline behaviors of left-behind children's caregivers were not optimistic in rural China. Caregivers' depression might increase the risk of using violent discipline. However, the specific ways in which depressive symptoms impact violent discipline have rarely been explored in rural areas. This study aims to assess the prevalence of violent discipline among left-behind children under 6 years of age in rural China and explore the potential mechanisms of how caregivers' depressive symptoms affect violent discipline. METHODS: We enrolled a total of 396 pairs of left-behind children and their caregivers in our study, which was conducted in 5 counties of Hebei, Henan, Jiangxi, Guizhou, and Sichuan provinces in China. The depressive symptoms of caregivers were measured by using Zung Self-rating Depression Scale (ZSDS) and violent discipline was assessed by the Child Discipline Module of Multiple Indicator Cluster Surveys (MICS). A self-designed questionnaire was utilized to measure caregiver's parenting attitude. Based on the cross-sectional data, controlling for potential confounders, structural equation modeling (SEM) was used to assess the direct and indirect effects of the mediation models by applying the weighted least squares with mean and variance adjusted (WLSMV) estimate. RESULTS: The prevalence of violent discipline, psychological aggression, and physical punishment was 72.7%, 59.3%, and 60.4% respectively of left-behind children under 6 years of age. According to the results of SEM, parenting attitude acted as a suppressor, suppressing the association between caregivers' depressive symptoms and physical punishment/psychological aggression/violent discipline. The caregivers' depressive symptoms positively influenced all the outcome variables by affecting parenting attitudes (p = 0.002, p = 0.013, p = 0.002). CONCLUSIONS: The presence of depressive symptoms in caregivers increases the use of violent discipline through negative parenting attitudes. The mental health status of primary caregivers of left-behind children in rural China needed emphasis and improvement.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: The early development of left-behind children requires great concern and improvement. Yet, current interventions for left-behind children are mainly focussed on children older than 3. This study aims to assess the effectiveness of a home visiting programme on family responsive care and early development of rural left-behind children and examine whether family responsive care mediates the effects of intervention on child development. METHODS: A quasi-experimental study design was utilized in this study. A stratified clustered sampling was employed to choose villages in programme towns into intervention group. A control village was matched with every intervention village. All of the left-behind children and their caregivers meeting the inclusion criteria in the chosen villages were enrolled in the survey. The outcomes included child development, caregiver's early stimulation, parent-child communication, and learning materials. Baseline assessments were conducted in 2018, and endline assessments were conducted in 2020. RESULTS: In the endline survey, we enrolled 608 children with 258 in the intervention group and 350 in the control group. Left-behind children in the intervention group were less likely to have development delay compared with the control group (odds ratio [OR] = 0.59, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 0.36, 0.96). Migrant parents of children in the intervention group showed higher proportion of expressing emotional support to their children when communicating (OR = 1.69, 95% CI: 1.05, 2.72). Children who received home visits more than once per 2 months had lower level of suspected development delay than children in the control group (OR = 0.34, 95% CI: 0.18, 0.68). Caregiver's early stimulation and migrant parents' emotional support to left-behind children mediated the intervention dose and left-behind children's development. CONCLUSION: Caregiver's early stimulation mediates the intervention and child's development. The findings suggest a promising future for scaling similar early childhood development interventions for left-behind children in rural settings.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Currently, there is no standard treatment for managing relapse in patients with acute myeloid leukemia and myelodysplastic syndrome (AML/MDS) after allogeneic hematopoietic cell transplantation. Venetoclax-based therapies have been increasingly used for treating post-transplantation relapse of AML. The aim of this systematic review and meta-analysis was to evaluate the efficacy and adverse events of Venetoclax combined with hypomethylating agents (HMAs) for AML/MDS relapse post-transplantation. METHODS: We searched PubMed, Web of Science, Excerpta Medica Database, Cochrane Library, and Clinical. gov for eligible studies from the inception to February 2022. The Methodological Index for Non-Randomized Studies was used to evaluate the quality of the included literatures. The inverse variance method calculated the pooled proportion and 95% confidence interval (CI). RESULTS: This meta-analysis included 10 studies involving a total of 243 patients. The pooled complete response and complete response with incomplete blood count recovery rate of Venetoclax combined with HMAs for post-transplantation relapse in AML/MDS was 32% (95% CI, 26-39%, I2 = 0%), with an overall response rate of 48% (95% CI, 39-56%, I2 = 37%). The 6-month survival rate was 42% (95% CI, 29-55%, I2 = 62%) and the 1-year survival rate was 23% (95% CI, 11-38%, I2 = 78%). CONCLUSION: This study demonstrated a moderate benefit of Venetoclax in combination with HMAs for patients with relapsed AML/MDS post-transplantation (including those who have received prior HMAs therapy), and may become one of treatment options in the future. Large-scale prospective studies are needed to confirm the potential benefit from venetoclax combined with HMAs.

RESUMO

In recent years, global warming has become an important topic of public concern. As one of the most promising carbon capture technologies, solid amine adsorbents have received a lot of attention because of their high adsorption capacity, excellent selectivity, and low energy cost, which is committed to sustainable development. The preparation methods and support materials can influence the thermal stability and adsorption capacity of solid amine adsorbents. As a supporting material, it needs to meet the requirements of high pore volume and abundant hydroxyl groups. Industrial and biomass waste are expected to be a novel and cheap raw material source, contributing both carbon dioxide capture and waste recycling. The applied range of solid amine adsorbents has been widened from flue gas to biogas and ambient air, which require different research focuses, including strengthening the selectivity of CO2 to CH4 or separating CO2 under the condition of the dilute concentration. Several kinetic or isotherm models have been adopted to describe the adsorption process of solid amine adsorbents, which select the pseudo-first order model, pseudo-second order model, and Langmuir isotherm model most commonly. Besides searching for novel materials from solid waste and widening the applicable gases, developing the dynamic adsorption and three-dimensional models can also be a promising direction to accelerate the development of this technology. The review has combed through the recent development and covered the shortages of previous review papers, expected to promote the industrial application of solid amine adsorbents.

RESUMO

Biodrying is a promising method that produces bio-stabilized output with minimum pretreatment requirements. In this study, a hot-air supply system was added to the traditional biodrying process for kitchen waste, which showed significant reduction in moisture content in 5 days (maximum reduction of 37.45%). A series of experiments was conducted to optimize the hot-air biodrying system utilizing different aeration rates, temperatures, and mixing ratios of feedstock to bulking agents. The results showed that a 65 °C aeration temperature led to the highest water removal rate and low volatile solids consumption rate, with the biodrying index reaching 4.9 g water per gram of volatile solids. On the other hand, evaluation of the overall biodrying efficiency based on the weight loss and bio-stabilization showed that intermittent aeration temperature at 55 °C performed best, offering suitable conditions for water evaporation and bio-degradation. In combination with a flow rate of 0.8 L/kg*min and 1:1 mixing ratio, these conditions resulted in the maximum volatile solids consumption of 26.26% in 5 days. The volatile solids consumption and 34.47% water removal rate of the trial had contributed to a total of 64.13% weight loss. The weight loss was even higher than that of a conventional biodrying system which was conducted for more than 14 days.

RESUMO

Terahertz wave has been used to obtain the internal information of materials due to its penetrability to optically opaque materials. In this paper, we propose a full-field stress measuring method using terahertz time-domain spectroscopy. The theoretical model of the method was established based on the stress-optical law, and the method was then validated experimentally. A four-point bending experiment was conducted to determine the stress-optical coefficient of the specimen material, after which the proposed method was used to measure the stress distribution of a diametrically loaded disk. The experimental results present a reasonable agreement with the theoretical solution.

RESUMO

Inflammation is considered an important mechanism in the development of diabetes mellitus (DM) and persists for a long time before the occurrence of diabetic nephropathy (DN). Many studies have demonstrated that a decrease in the endothelial glycocalyx (EG) is negatively correlated with proteinuria. To elucidate whether EG damage induced by inflammasomes in DM patients leads to the occurrence of microalbuminuria (MA) and accelerates the progression of DN, this study screened 300 diagnosed DM patients. Finally, 70 type 2 diabetes patients were invited to participate in this study and were divided into two groups: the T2DM group (patients with normal MA and without diabetic retinopathy, n = 35) and the T2DN group (patients with increased MA and diabetic retinopathy, n = 35). Circulating heparin sulphate (HS, EG biomarkers) and interleukin-1 beta (IL-1ß, inflammasome biomarkers) of the patients were measured by ELISA. Laboratory data were measured using routine laboratory methods. Patients in the T2DN group had increased serum HS, increased IL-1ß, increased CRP, decreased haemoglobin, and increased neutrophils compared to patients in the T2DM group (all P < 0.05). Increased HS and decreased haemoglobin were independently associated with T2DN patients. ROC curves showed that the AUC of HS for the prediction of T2DN was 0.67 (P < 0.05). The combination of HS and haemoglobin yielded a significant increasement in the AUC (0.75, P < 0.001) with optimal sensitivity (71.2%) and specificity (79%). Furthermore, serum IL-1ß was positively correlated with HS and was an independent associated factor of HS in the T2DN group. The relationship between HS and IL-1ß was not significant in the T2DM group. Our findings surgessed the inflammasome may be associated with and promote damage to the EG during the disease course of DN that manifests as increased MA.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Parent-child separation is a considerable adversity for left-behind children (LBC), but there is little evidence on the association between detailed characteristics of parent-child separation and social-emotional development among LBC. This study examined the characteristics of parent-child separation and its impacts on developmental delay among under-3 LBC in poor rural China. METHODS: We used data from 811 LBC surveyed in five poor counties in rural China in 2018. Detailed characteristics of their parental migration were recalled by their primary caregivers in face-to-face interviews. The children's social-emotional development was measured by using the Ages and Stages Questionnaire: Social-Emotional. Logistic regression was employed to examine the association of detailed characteristics of parent-child separation with early social-emotional problems after adjusting for the children's and primary caregivers' sociodemographic characteristics. RESULTS: 287 (35.4%) children were left behind by fathers and cared for by mothers (FM-MC), while 524 (64.6%) were left behind by both parents and cared for by grandparents (PM-GC). The rate of social-emotional problems among LBC was 36.8% (PM-GC vs FM-MC: 40.6% vs 29.5%; aOR 1.51, 95% CI: 1.06 to 2.16). For paternal migration, the medians of the child's age at the first migration and average duration per migration were 3 months (IQR: 1 to 9 months) and 4.48 months (IQR: 2.38 to 7.54 months), respectively. For maternal migration, the corresponding values were 9 months (IQR: 6 to 13 months) and 4.65 months (IQR: 2.71 to 7.62 months), respectively. On average, LBC had been separated from fathers for 72% of their life due to paternal migration and from mothers for 52% of their life due to maternal migration. No significant association was found between the detailed characteristics of paternal migration and social-emotional development among LBC, while social-emotional problems among LBC were significantly associated with the proportion of cumulative duration of maternal migration in the child's lifetime (aOR 2.83; 95% CI: 1.13 to 7.10). CONCLUSIONS: LBC under 3 years had a high risk of social-emotional problems in poor rural China. Cumulative exposure to maternal migration may be detrimental to LBC's early social-emotional development. Programs are necessary to support these children as well as their families.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: More than one-third of children under 3 years old are left behind at home due to parental migration in rural China, and we know very little about early childhood nutrition of left-behind children (LBC) because of the dearth of research. This study examined the association between parental migration and early childhood nutrition of LBC in rural China. METHODS: We used repeated cross-sectional data of rural children aged 6-35 months who participated in two surveys in six counties of northern and southern China in 2013 and 2016 respectively. The length, weight, and hemoglobin concentration were measured by trained health-care workers blinded to parental migration status. Stunting, underweight, wasting, and anemia were identified with the standards recommended by WHO. Generalized linear regressions and multivariate logistic regressions were employed to explore the association between parental migration and these nutritional outcomes at each time point. RESULTS: Two thousand three hundred thirty-six and 2210 children aged 6-35 months were enrolled in 2013 and 2016, respectively. The results show a reduction of the risks of stunting, underweight, and wasting from 2013 (16.4, 8.5, and 3.5%, respectively) to 2016 (12.1, 4.0, and 1.5%, respectively) but highlight a constantly and alarmingly high risk of anemia among these children (44.8% in 2013 and 43.8% in 2016). Children with migrant fathers performed as well as or better than those with non-migrants on these indicators. Children with migrant parents performed slightly worse in 2013, but equal or slightly superior in 2016 on these indicators compared with children with non-migrants and migrant fathers. Children aged 6-17 months with migrant parents had a significantly lower risk of anemia than those living with their mothers or with both parents (43.1% vs. 63.6% and 61.5 in 2013, and 42.5 vs. 60.1 and 66.2% in 2016), even after controlling for children's sociodemographic characteristics. CONCLUSIONS: Parental migration may be not detrimental and even beneficial to early childhood nutrition of LBC in rural China. Continued nutritional support is needed for all rural children, especially interventions for preventing micronutrient deficiency. Programs for LBC are recommended to continue to focus on nutrition but pay more attention to other important health issues.

RESUMO

Maternal one-carbon metabolism during pregnancy is crucial for fetal development and programming by DNA methylation. However, evidence on one-carbon biomarkers other than folate is lacking. We, therefore, investigated whether maternal plasma methyl donors, that is, choline, betaine and methionine, are associated with birth outcomes. Blood samples were obtained from 115 women during gestation (median 26·3 weeks, 90 % range 22·7-33·0 weeks). Plasma choline, betaine, methionine and dimethylglycine were measured using HPLC-tandem MS. Multivariate linear and logistic regression models were used to estimate the association between plasma biomarkers and birth weight, birth length, the risk of small-for-gestational-age and large-for-gestational-age (LGA). Higher level of maternal betaine was associated with lower birth weight (-130·3 (95 % CI -244·8, -15·9) per 1 sd increment for log-transformed betaine). Higher maternal methionine was associated with lower risk of LGA, and adjusted OR, with 95 % CI for 1 sd increase in methionine concentration was 0·44 (95 % CI 0·21, 0·89). Stratified analyses according to infant sex or maternal plasma homocysteine status showed that reduction in birth weight in relation to maternal betaine was only limited to male infants or to who had higher maternal homocysteine status (≥5·1 µmol/l). Higher maternal betaine status was associated with reduced birth weight. Maternal methionine was inversely associated with LGA risk. These findings are needed to be replicated in future larger studies.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVES: This study aimed to investigate anxiety status and its relationship with body mass index (BMI) among empty nesters in China, so as to improve their quality of life and provide direction for further research. METHODS: A cross-sectional survey was conducted among 4901 empty nesters in Shanxi, China. Anxiety, weight, height, depression, socio-demographic variables, attention to daily nutritional health, social activities, and self-care ability were evaluated in the study. T-tests and chi-square tests were used to compare differences in categorical and continuous variables. Binary logistic regression was performed to explore the association between anxiety and BMI among male and female empty nesters. RESULTS: The results showed that 44.5% of empty nesters reported anxiety, of which, 43.2% were male participants and 45.9% were female participants. After adjusting for other variables, overweight empty nesters odds ratio (OR; 95% confidence interval [CI]) = 0.813 (0.692-0.954) were less likely to be anxious, compared with their normal-weight counterparts. Gender was a significant factor in the relationship, with the negative association between overweight and anxiety only found in female empty nesters OR (95%CI) = 0.718 (0.572-0.901). Income, education, complete self-care ability, and depression showed significant associations with anxiety. CONCLUSION: The prevalence of anxiety was high in the study population. Gender is a significant factor in the relationship between anxiety and BMI among empty nesters. The results intend to inform the government and media that overweight is a protective factor for anxiety among female empty nesters, necessitating a move toward eliminating weight bias.

RESUMO

The EtOH extract of the roots and rhizomes of Clematis chinensis afforded two new macrocyclic glucosides clemochinenosides C (1) and D (2). Their structures were elucidated on the basis of spectroscopic means and hydrolysis products. These compounds were evaluated for inhibitory activity against lipopolysaccharides-induced TNF-α production in RAW 246.7 macrophages. Compounds 1 and 2 showed moderate inhibitory activity with IC50 values of 12.9 ± 2.3 and 18.4 ± 2.7 µM, respectively. In addition, a proliferation study was used to evaluate the anti-angiogenic effects of these compounds in vitro (VEGF-induced human umbilical vein endothelial cell proliferation). Compounds 1 and 2 displayed weak inhibitory effects with inhibition rates of 26.3 ± 1.8 and 19.2 ± 2.6% at 50 µM, respectively.

RESUMO

PURPOSE: Choline and betaine are important for DNA methylation and synthesis, and may affect tumor carcinogenesis. To our knowledge, no previous study has examined the association between serum choline and betaine and breast cancer risk. This study aimed to examine whether serum choline and betaine were inversely associated with breast cancer risk among Chinese women. METHODS: This hospital-based case-control study consecutively recruited 510 breast cancer cases and 518 frequency-matched (age and residence) controls, and blood samples were available for 500 cases and 500 controls. Serum choline and betaine were assayed by high-performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry. Multiple unconditional logistic regression was used to estimate odds ratios (ORs) and 95 % confidence intervals (CIs). RESULTS: An inverse association with breast cancer risk was observed for serum betaine (fourth vs first quartile adjusted OR 0.68, 95 % CI 0.47-0.97) and for the ratio of serum betaine to choline (fourth vs first quartile adjusted OR 0.70, 95 % CI 0.48-1.00), but not for serum choline (fourth vs first quartile adjusted OR 0.80, 95 % CI 0.56-1.15). Serum betaine was inversely associated with breast cancer risk in subjects with below-median dietary folate intake (fourth vs first quartile adjusted OR 0.48, 95 % CI 0.30-0.77). CONCLUSIONS: This study suggested that serum betaine but not choline was inversely associated with breast cancer risk. This result needed to be further confirmed by the prospective studies.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) is an irreversible interstitial pulmonary disease featured by high mortality, chronic and progressive course, and poor prognosis with unclear etiology. Currently, more studies have been focusing on identifying biomarkers to predict the progression of IPF, such as genes, proteins, and lipids. Lipids comprise diverse classes of molecules and play a critical role in cellular energy storage, structure, and signaling. The role of lipids in respiratory diseases, including cystic fibrosis, asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) has been investigated intensely in the recent years. The human serum lipid profiles in IPF patients however, have not been thoroughly understood and it will be very helpful if there are available molecular biomarkers, which can be used to monitor the disease progression or provide prognostic information for IPF disease. METHODS: In this study, we performed the ultraperformance liquid chromatography coupled with quadrupole time of flight mass spectrometry (UPLC-QTOF/MS) to detect the lipid variation and identify biomarker in plasma of IPF patients. The plasma were from 22 IPF patients before received treatment and 18 controls. RESULTS: A total of 507 individual blood lipid species were determined with lipidomics from the 40 plasma samples including 20 types of fatty acid, 159 types of glycerolipids, 221 types of glycerophospholipids, 47 types of sphingolipids, 46 types of sterol lipids, 7 types of prenol lipids, 3 types of saccharolipids, and 4 types of polyketides. By comparing the variations in the lipid metabolite levels in IPF patients, a total of 62 unique lipids were identified by statistical analysis including 24 kinds of glycerophoslipids, 30 kinds of glycerolipids, 3 kinds of sterol lipids, 4 kinds of sphingolipids and 1 kind of fatty acids. Finally, 6 out of 62 discriminating lipids were selected as the potential biomarkers, which are able to differentiate between IPF disease and controls with ROC analysis. RESUMO

Previous epidemiological studies have revealed the anti-cancer effect of dietary circulating carotenoids. However, the protective role of specific individual circulating carotenoids has not been elucidated. The purpose of this study was to examine whether serum carotenoids, including α-carotene, ß-carotene, ß-cryptoxanthin, lycopene and lutein/zeaxanthin, could lower the risk for breast cancer among Chinese women. A total of 521 women with breast cancer and age-matched controls (5-year interval) were selected from three teaching hospitals in Guangzhou, China. Concentrations of α-carotene, ß-carotene, ß-cryptoxanthin, lycopene and lutein/zeaxanthin were measured using HPLC. Unconditional logistic regression models were used to calculate OR and 95% CI using quartiles defined in the control subjects. Significant inverse associations were observed between serum α-carotene, ß-carotene, lycopene, lutein/zeaxanthin and the risk for breast cancer. The multivariate OR for the highest quartile of serum concentration compared with the lowest quartile were 0·44 (95% CI 0·30, 0·65) for α-carotene, 0·27 (95% CI 0·18, 0·40) for ß-carotene, 0·41 (95% CI 0·28, 0·61) for lycopene and 0·26 (95% CI 0·17, 0·38) for lutein/zeaxanthin. However, no significant association was found between serum ß-cryptoxanthin and the risk for breast cancer. Stratified analysis by menopausal status and oestrogen receptor (ER)/progesterone receptor (PR) showed that serum α-carotene, ß-carotene, lycopene and lutein/zeaxanthin were inversely associated with breast cancer risk among premenopausal women and among all subtypes of ER or PR status. The results suggest a protective role of α-carotene, ß-carotene, lycopene and lutein/zeaxanthin, but not ß-cryptoxanthin, in breast cancer risk.

RESUMO

Choline and betaine are essential nutrients involved in one-carbon metabolism and have been hypothesised to affect breast cancer risk. Functional polymorphisms in genes encoding choline-related one-carbon metabolism enzymes, including phosphatidylethanolamine N-methyltransferase (PEMT), choline dehydrogenase (CHDH) and betaine-homocysteine methyltransferase (BHMT), have important roles in choline metabolism and may thus interact with dietary choline and betaine intake to modify breast cancer risk. This study aimed to investigate the interactive effect of polymorphisms in PEMT, BHMT and CHDH genes with choline/betaine intake on breast cancer risk among Chinese women. This hospital-based case-control study consecutively recruited 570 cases with histologically confirmed breast cancer and 576 age-matched (5-year interval) controls. Choline and betaine intakes were assessed by a validated FFQ, and genotyping was conducted for PEMT rs7946, CHDH rs9001 and BHMT rs3733890. OR and 95 % CI were estimated using unconditional logistic regression. Compared with the highest quartile of choline intake, the lowest intake quartile showed a significant increased risk of breast cancer. The SNP PEMT rs7946, CHDH rs9001 and BHMT rs3733890 had no overall association with breast cancer, but a significant risk reduction was observed among postmenopausal women with AA genotype of BHMT rs3733890 (OR 0·49; 95 % CI 0·25, 0·98). Significant interactions were observed between choline intake and SNP PEMT rs7946 (P interaction=0·029) and BHMT rs3733890 (P interaction=0·006) in relation to breast cancer risk. Our results suggest that SNP PEMT rs7946 and BHMT rs3733890 may interact with choline intake on breast cancer risk.

RESUMO

The contribution of excavated waste to waste management is multifaceted, including minimization, non-hazardous disposal, access to useable land resources, improved waste management techniques and public environmental awareness, consistent with recent circular economy initiatives. Pyrolysis can be converted into tar, pyrolysis gas and char with recyclable utilization, enriching the application of pyrolysis technology in the field of excavation waste. In this study, the pyrolysis system includes horizontal tube furnace, gas collection device and Micro GC. The excavated waste was pyrolyzed at a temperature of 500∼900 °C with a heating rate of 10 °C/min. Pyrolysis gases include H2, CO, CO2, CH4, C2H4, C2H6 and C3H8. Pyrolysis was divided into four stages, the main decomposition range is 230∼500 °C, with a weight loss rate of 68.49% and a co-pyrolysis behavior. As the temperature increases, the tar and char decreased and the gas production increased significantly, and the pyrolysis gas reached 47.02% at 900 °C. According to Pearson correlation coefficient analysis, the generation of H2 and CO is positively correlated with temperature. Therefore, the target products can be influenced by changing the parameters, when considering the practical utilization of the excavated waste pyrolysis products. On this basis, the prediction models were built by polynomial fitting method. This model can reduce the experimental exploration cycle, reduce the cost, and accurately predict the pyrolysis gas, which has practical guidance for the application of pyrolysis industry, and provides a theoretical basis for the resource recycling and energy recovery of landfill.

RESUMO

SCOPE: Alzheimer's disease is an age-dependent neurodegenerative disorder. Mounting studies focus on the improvement of advanced cognitive impairment by dietary nutrients. Krill oil (KO), a rich source of DHA/EPA and astaxanthin, is effective in improving cognitive function. The study mainly investigates the protective effects of long-term KO administration on early cognitive impairment. METHODS AND RESULTS: Results show that 2 months KO administration (50 and 100 mg kg-1 BW) can dramatically promote learning and memory abilities. Mechanism studies demonstrate that KO reduces amyloid ß concentration by regulating the amyloidogenic pathway, inhibits neuro-inflammation via regulating TLR4-NLRP3 signaling pathway, and prevents neuron injure. KO supplementation also enhances gut barrier integrity, reduces serum lipopolysaccharide leakage, and alters the gut microbiota by reducing Helicobacteraceae, Lactobacillaceae proportion, increasing Dubosiella and Akkermansia relative abundance. Particularly, a significant increase of isovaleric acid, propionic acid, and acetic acid levels is observed after KO supplementation. Correlation analysis shows that short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs), gut microbiota, and cognitive function are strongly correlated. CONCLUSIONS: The results reveal that KO relieves early mild cognitive impairment possibly for its role in mediating the gut microbiome-SCFAs-brain axis. Thus, KO may provide potential intervention strategies to prevent cognitive impairment in the early stages through the microbiota-gut-brain axis.

RESUMO

Multiple myeloma (MM) is a distinguished hematologic malignancy, with existing studies elucidating its interaction with neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs), which may potentially facilitate tumor growth. However, systematic investigations into the role of NETs in MM remain limited. Utilizing the single-cell dataset GSE223060, we discerned active NET cell subgroups, namely neutrophils, monocytes, and macrophages. A transcriptional trajectory was subsequently constructed to comprehend the progression of MM. Following this, an analysis of cellular communication in MM was conducted with a particular emphasis on neutrophils, revealing an augmentation in interactions albeit with diminished strength, alongside abnormal communication links between neutrophils and NK cells within MM samples. Through the intersection of differentially expressed genes (DEGs) between NET active/inactive cells and MM versus healthy samples, a total of 316 genes were identified. This led to the development of a 13-gene risk model for prognostic prediction based on overall survival, utilizing transcriptomics dataset GSE136337. The high-risk group manifested altered immune infiltration and heightened sensitivity to chemotherapy. A constructed nomogram for predicting survival probabilities demonstrated encouraging AUCs for 1, 3, and 5-year survival predictions. Collectively, our findings unveil a novel NET-related prognostic signature for MM, thereby providing a potential avenue for therapeutic exploration.
