RESUMO

Aggression is one of the public social issues affecting campus harmony and stability, and social exclusion is an important interpersonal contextual factor among many factors affecting aggression. However, studies examining the influence of social exclusion on aggression and its mediating mechanism are not systematic enough. Based on the general aggression model (GAM), we intend to explore the role of hostile attribution bias (HAB) in both trait and state levels of social exclusion, which leads to aggression through a combination of questionnaire and experimental methods. Study 1 surveyed 388 current high school students (Mage = 16.09, SD = 1.01) and found that HAB mediates the relationship between long-term social exclusion (trait level) and aggression tendency. Study 2 experimented with 181 high school students (Mage = 16.95, SD = 1.13) to examine whether short-term social exclusion (state level) after initiating the Cyberball paradigm could still influence aggressive behavior through the mediating role of HAB. Results found that the mediating role of HAB still holds. The findings of the study further enrich the GAM and have important implications for a more targeted approach to aggression prevention and intervention.

RESUMO

Because of the immense difficulty in identifying Cyathulae Capitatae Radix adulteration in Cyathulae Radix, this research aims at fortifying the quality control of Cyathulae Radix and its decoction pieces to guarantee the effectiveness and safety of its clinical use in terms of source material. A method was devised to identify Cyathulae Capitatae Radix adulteration in Cyathulae Radix and its decoction pieces. This research takes achybidensaponin I, that is, the characteristic component of Cyathulae Capitatae Radix, as reference substance and adopts HPLC for detection. The results revealed that, among all samples collected, no trace of achybidensaponin I was found in the 21 batches of Cyathulae Radix, whereas achybidensaponin I was found in all the 14 batches of Cyathulae Capitatae Radix. The research sets 5% as the adulteration limit, that is, 1.45 mg/g Cyathulae Capitatae Radix was detected in 57.14% of the 49 batches of market samples collected and the ratio was 51.02% in the case of 5% adulteration limit. The method is not only precise and reliable but can also be used as a supplement for provisions regarding quality control of Cyathulae Radix and its decoction pieces in Pharmacopoeia of the People's Republic of China, to effectively crack down on Cyathulae Capitatae Radix adulteration in the market.

RESUMO

To understand the current quality status and rearing situation of Bombyx Batryticatus, the authors collected 102 batches of Bombyx Batryticatus from different main producing areas and five major Chinese medicine markets from 2016 to 2018, and measured the properties and quality of the silk gland, to clarify the quality status of Bombyx Batryticatus from different producing areas and markets. In addition, 35 batches of Bombyx Batryticatus from 2019 to 2022 were used to verify the silk gland after revision. Moreover, Beauveria Bassiana was inoculated in the silkworm of 4-5 instars, and standardized rearing was carried out until they die. The death rate and the quality of Bombyx Batryticatus were measured to determine the differences in Bombyx Batryticatus of different instars, and explore the rationality of the infection age of Bombyx Batryticatus in Chinese Pharmacopoeia(2020). The results revealed that in the 102 batches of Bombyx Batryticatus, the qualification rate of silk gland was low; the content of total ash far exceeded the standard; the content of beauvericin varied greatly. The qualification rate of the silk gland of the 35 batches of Bombyx Batryticatus was only 47.49%, which could be increased to 73.00% if the number of silk gland was 2 to 4. The death rate of Bombyx Batryticatus at different infection ages was quite different, with uneven quality. Generally, the yield of Bombyx Batryticatus inoculated on the first day of the fifth instar was high with good quality. Therefore, in combination with the quality and actual production of Bombyx Batryticatus, the following suggestions were proposed for revision of Bombyx Batryticatus in Chinese Pharmacopoeia(2025): The number of silk gland should be revised as 2-4 bright brown or bright black silk glands, after which, the quality of Bombyx Batryticatus could be guaranteed, and the "quality identification based on character" could also be reflected scientifically; the content determination index that the content of beauvericin shall not be less than 0.017% should be added to better control the quality of Bombyx Batryticatus; the infection age should be revised as the first day of the fifth instar to narrow the age span, which could better fit the actual production and ensure the quality of Bombyx Batryticatus.

RESUMO

With the internationalization of traditional Chinese medicines (TCMs) and the increasing use of herbal medicines around the world, there are concerns over their safety. In recent years, there have been some sporadic reports of pesticide residues in Chuanxiong Rhizoma (CX), although the lack of systematic and comprehensive analyses of pesticide residues and evaluations of toxicological risks in human health has increased the uncertainty of the potential effects of pesticides exposure in humans. This study aimed to clarify the status of pesticide residues and to determine the health risks of pesticide residues in CX. The findings of this study revealed that 99 batches of CX samples contained pesticide residues ranging from 0.05 to 3013.17 µg/kg. Here, 6-22 kinds of pesticides were detected in each sample. Prometryn, carbendazim, dimethomorph, chlorpyrifos, chlorantraniliprole, pyraclostrobin, and paclobutrazol were the most frequently detected pesticides, with detection rates of 68.69-100%. Insecticides and fungicides accounted for 43.23% and 37.84% of the total pesticides detected, respectively. Here, 86.87% of the pesticide content levels were lower than 50 µg/kg, and a small number of samples contained carbofuran, dimethoate, and isofenphos-methyl exceeding the maximum residue levels (MRLs). A risk assessment based on the hazard quotient/hazard index (HQ/HI) approach revealed that the short-term, long-term, and cumulative risks of pesticide residues in CX are well below the levels that may pose a health risk. Worryingly, six banned pesticides (carbofuran, phorate sulfone, phorate-sulfoxide, isofenphos-methyl, terbufos-sulfone, and terbufoxon sulfoxide) were detected. This study has improved our understanding of the potential exposure risk of pesticide multi-residues in CX. The results of the study will have a positive impact on improving the quality and safety of CX and the development of MRLs for pesticide residues.

RESUMO

Chiral compounds commonly exist in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), but little research on the quality control of TCM has been conducted. In this study, a new strategy is proposed, taking Yuanhuzhitong tablet [YHZT, consisting of Radix Angelicae Dahuricae and Rhizoma Corydalis (Yan Hu Suo, YHS)] for example, which is based on chiral isomer ratio analysis to monitor the production process of Chinese patent medicine companies. In the process of content determination for tetrahydropalmatine (THP) in YHZT from different companies, noticeable differences were observed in their chromatographic behaviors. It is known that THP has two enantiomers, naturally coexisting in YHS as a racemic mixture, so we prepared THP twice and subsequently performed chiral separation analysis using supercritical fluid chromatography. As a result, the peak area ratios of two enantiomers from different companies varied remarkably, demonstrating that some companies did not probably manufacture YHZT products in accordance with the prescription proportion, used inferior or extracted YSH crude materials in the production process, and added raw chemical medicine in the production to reach the standard and lower the costs. In conclusion, the peak area ratio of chiral isomers could be taken as a key quality index.

RESUMO

Electrochemical advanced oxidation process (EAOP) is known for its efficient and fast degradation of organic pollutants in polluted water treatment. In this study, the EAOP using a boron-doped diamond (BDD) anode was applied to treat two-season groundwater samples collected from four sampling wells (GS1 to GS4) with petrochemical contaminants including methyl tert-butyl ether (MTBE), benzene, toluene, chlorobenzene, total organic compounds (TOC), and total petroleum hydrocarbons (TPH) at a gas station in southern Taiwan. Moreover, toxicity tests (ATP, p53, and NF-κB bioassays) were performed to evaluate the biological responses of raw and EAOP-treated groundwater. Results show that the concentrations of chlorobenzene before and after EAOP treatment were all below its method detection limit. High degradation efficiencies were observed for MTBE (100%), benzene (100%), toluene (100%, except that of GS2 in the first season), TPH (94-97%, except that of GS4 in the first season), and TOC (85-99%). Cell viability for both the raw groundwater (81.2 ± 13.5%) and EAOP-treated samples (84.7 ± 11.7%) as detected using the ATP bioassay showed no significant difference (p = 0.715). A mean reduction in the DNA damage (739 to 165 ng DOX-equivalency L-1 (ng DOX-EQ. L-1)) and inflammatory response levels (460 to 157 ng TNFα-equivalency L-1 (ng TNFα-EQ. L-1)) were observed for EAOP-treated samples subjected to p53 and NF-κB bioassays. Overall, the significances of the average degradation efficiency, DNA damage, and inflammatory response before and after groundwater with EAOP treatment was observed to be significant (p < 0.05). p53 and NF-κB bioassays might be applied to assess ecotoxic risk in the environment.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: This study aims to investigate the effects of hybrid blood purification treatment on secondary hyperparathyroidism for maintenance hemodialysis (HD) patients. METHODS: A total of 40 patients were randomly divided into 2 groups: HD combined with hemoperfusion (HD + HP) group (n = 20) and HD group (n = 20). Changes in intact parathyroid hormone (iPTH) in these 2 groups were compared before and after treatment, and iPTH levels in the HD + HP group were monitored before and after treatment. RESULTS: iPTH, ß2 microglobulin (ß2-MG), and cystatin C (CysC) levels were significantly lower in the HD + HP group than in the HD group (p < 0.05), iPTH levels were significantly higher than at the first day after treatment (p < 0.05), and iPTH level was significantly higher (p < 0.05). CONCLUSION: The clearance effects of HD + HP on iPTH, ß2-MG, and CysC are better than HD alone. Treatment with HD + HP every 2 weeks is recommended for maintenance HD patients.

RESUMO

INTRODUCTION: Bulbus fritillariae cirrhosae (known as Chuan bèi mǔ in China, BFC) contain fritillaria steroidal alkaloids as the bioactive ingredients and are widely used as traditional Chinese medicine for the treatment of cough and phlegm. Due to limited wild resources, the cultivated species are becoming predominantly used in Chinese traditional medicine markets. OBJECTIVE: To assess the impact of different growth stages on the alkaloids of cultivated BFC and establish a reference for quality control and guidance for appropriate harvesting practices. METHODS: The ultra-high performance liquid chromatography quadrupole time-of-flight mass spectrometry (UHPLC-QTOF-MS) metabolomic strategy was applied to determine potential chemical markers for the discrimination and quality control of cultivated BFC in different growth stages. The molecular feature extraction and multivariate statistical analysis were applied to alkaloid extraction and full metabolomic profiling of cultivated BFC for classification and marker compound characterisation. RESULT: This approach allowed the establishment of a fast and efficient comparative multivariate analysis of the metabolite composition of 42 samples covering growth of cultivated BFC ranging in age from one to seven years old. Four alkaloid compounds were identified in cultivated BFC based on accurate mass, retention time, and MS/MS fragments. These compounds may be used as potential chemical markers for the classification and discrimination of cultivated BFC samples indifferent growth stages. CONCLUSIONS: The proposed analytical method in combination with multivariate statistical analysis comprised a useful and powerful strategy to explore the chemical ingredients and transforming mechanisms of cultivated BFC and for quality evaluation and control. RESUMO

This study investigates the congener-specific concentrations of polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins/furans (PCDD/Fs), polybrominated dibenzo-p-dioxins/furans (PBDD/Fs), and polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) in 25 breast milk samples from southern Taiwan. Most investigated congeners in Taiwanese breast milk are detectable except for PBDD/Fs. The geometric means of PCDD/Fs and PBDEs in the breast milk are 2.44 pg WHO2005-TEQ/g lipid and 2810 pg/g lipid. Several PCDD/F and PBDE congeners were highly correlated to each other like 1,2,3,7,8-PeCDD and 2,3,4,7,8-PeCDF (r = 0.919, p < 0.001). The longest duration of menstruation could be predicted by BDE-153 (ß = 0.252) and 1,2,3,4,6,7,8-HpCDF (ß = 0.345) with adjustment of confounders using a multiple stepwise linear regression model (r = 0.963, p < 0.001).

RESUMO

To establish a method for simultaneous determination of the contents of sesamoside, menthyl chloride, chlorogenic acid, caffeic acid, 8-O-acetyl-phloridzin methyl ester, forsythiaside B, luteolin, and ergosterol, the LIPLC analysis was performed on a Kinetex XB-C18 (4.6 mm×50 mm,2.6 µm)column with acetonitrile (A)-0.1% phosphoric acid solution (B) as the mobile phase. The flow rate is 1.0 mL min⁻¹. The detection wavelength was 238, 320 and 350 nm and column temperature was 30 ℃. The results showed that the eight components could be completely separated with good linear relationships (r≥0.999 8) in the linear range. The average recoveries were 96.61%-100.4%. The method was simple with strong specificity and high precision. It can be used for the identification and quality evaluation of the Lamiophlomis rotate. The results also showed that there was a correlation between the various components, and the habitat was the main factor affecting the content of the eight components. However, the degradation gradient had no obvious effect on the contents, while the content of sesamoside was significantly decreased after one year of storage.

RESUMO

Our goal was to develop a fast-screening method for measuring dioxin levels in soils. The adenovirus (Ad)-dioxin-responsive (DR) bioassay system (AdEasy-6XDRE-TATA-Luc) combined with a fast-cleanup system was examined under conventional conditions (i.e., with incubation at 37°C) and three alternative conditions [incubation at 37°C with addition of phorbol-12-myristate-13-acetate (PMA), incubation at 33°C, and incubation at 33°C with addition of PMA]. The best conditions for carrying out the Ad-DR bioassay was 33°C and no addition of PMA. The background level of soil dioxins determined by the chemical assay [6.49 ng I-TEQ/kg dry weight (dw)] was well correlated (Pearson's r = 0.873, p < 0.001) with that by the Ad-DR bioassay [expressed in ng bioanalytical equivalents (BEQ) 81.1 ng BEQ/kg dw] (n = 17). When surveyed in contaminated soil samples (n = 114) from industrial areas by the Ad-DR bioassay, dioxin levels were 117, 102, 98.5, and 112 ng BEQ/kg dw, respectively, in northern, central, southern, and eastern Taiwan.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To establish an HPLC fingerprint of Anisodus tanguticus root for its quality control. METHODS: The analysis was carried out on a Ultimate AQ C18 (250 mm x 4.6 mm, 5 µm) column with the gradient elution of acetonitrile and KH2PO4 buffer soution, whose pH was adjusted to 3.0 with phosphoric acid. The flow rate, column temperature, detection wavelength and injection volume was 1.0 mL/min, 30 degrees C, 210 nm and 10 µL separately. The similarity evaluation and principal component analysis were used to analyze HPLC fingerprint of Anisodus tanguticus root. RESULTS: HPLC fingerprint of Anisodus tanguticus root was established with 15 common peaks by determining 18 batches of Anisodus tanguticus root samples. Four characteristic peaks, anisodine, scopolamine, anisodamine and anisodamine, were confirmed by comparing their retention time and UV spectrum with standard reference substances. The simiarities of 18 batches of Anisodus tanguticus root were between -0.891 and 0.987. Comprehensive evaluation scores of 18 batches of Anisodus tanguticus root were between -0.85 and 0.89 by principal component analysis. CONCLUSION: The established HPLC fingerprint has good precision, repeatability and stability, which can provide more comprehensive information for identification and quality control of Anisodus tanguticus root.

RESUMO

Neuroticism appears to be a factor that triggers social aggression, but the relationship between neuroticism and social aggression and its underlying mechanisms is unclear. Questionnaire data from 942 college students ranging in age from 17 to 24 (Mage = 20.33, SD = 1.03) were analysed to assess whether depression symptoms mediated the relationship between neuroticism and social aggression, and to test a moderating effect of perceived social support. Results showed that neuroticism positively predicted social aggression and this association was mediated by depression symptoms. Moderation was found for the association between neuroticism and depression symptoms, as well as between neuroticism and social aggression, and that neuroticism had a stronger predictive effect on depression symptoms and social aggression under low compared to high perceived social support. These findings may inform prevention and intervention efforts to reduce social aggression.

RESUMO

Cellulose detectors, as green sensors, are some of the defensive mechanisms of plants which combat environmental stresses. However, extracted cellulose struggles to fulfil these functionalities due to its rigid physical/chemical properties. In this study, a novel cellulose dual-crosslinked framework (CDCF) is proposed. This comprises a denser temporary physical crosslinking bond (hydrogen bonding) and a looser covalent crosslinking bond (N,N-methylenebisacrylamide), which create deformable spaces between the two crosslinking sites. Abundant pH-sensitive carboxyl groups and ultralight, highly porous structures make CDCF response very sensitive in acid/alkaline vapor environments. Hence, a significant shrinkage of CDCF was observed following exposure to vapors. Moreover, a curcumin-incorporated CDCF exhibited dual shape and color changes when exposed to acid/alkaline vapors, demonstrating great potential for the multi-detection of acid/alkaline vapors.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: The role of primary-level medical pharmacists in medical institutions in China is limited; therefore, it is necessary to explore the role of pharmacists in the process of drug treatment. CASE SUMMARY: A Chinese pharmacist participated in the complete treatment of a patient with a duodenal ulcer. The rationale for drug treatment was evaluated, and adjustments were made to the antacid and anti-infective regimen, as well as the dose and frequency of administration. Body temperature, routine blood examination, and adverse drug reactions were strictly monitored. During treatment, the pharmacist recommended anti-infective therapy with ampicillin-sulbactam, which effectively controlled the infection. Additionally, the pharmacist suggested changing famotidine to lansoprazole for acid suppression and gastroprotective treatment, combined with Chinese patent medicine such as Kangfuxin Liquid. This is the first case report of a pharmacist in primary-level medical institutions adjusting drug use for patients with duodenal ulcer and pulmonary infection. CONCLUSION: A pharmacist participated in the treatment process, provided individualized medication adjustment, and achieved good clinical results.

RESUMO

Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) and its preparations have become increasingly popular in recent years. Nonetheless, due to the high complexity of the compounds in Traditional Chinese Patent Medicine (TCPM), the quality differences between different dosage forms and products from various manufacturers pose numerous challenges and difficulties in quality evaluation. The Qiangli Tianma Duzhong (QLTMDZ) prescription, comprising twelve TCM, is widely used in China. Despite its prevalence, current research on QLTMDZ is limited and lacks in-depth and systematic analysis of the chemical composition of the prescription. In this study, a comprehensive strategy was proposed for characterizing the chemical profile of QLTMDZ based on UHPLC-Q-TOF-MS. A total of 122 compounds were identified in QLTMDZ under both positive and negative ion modes. Subsequently, multivariate statistical methods such as principal component analysis (PCA) and orthogonal partial least squares-discriminant analysis (OPLS-DA) were conducted in the MS-DIAL software to further elucidate quality differences among 55 batches of QLTMDZ samples from seven manufacturers. Lastly, multiple reaction monitoring (MRM) mode was utilized in conjunction with UHPLC-QQQ-MS, for the precise quantification of the identified 24 compounds within the QLTMDZ preparation and providing supplementary information in quality evaluation. The established analytical method in this study is sensitive and efficient, enabling qualitative and quantitative analysis of the chemical constituents within QLTMDZ. The application of multivariate statistical analyses effectively discriminates samples based on different dosage forms and manufacturers, thereby providing new research directions and scientific support for further studies on the quality control of the prescription.

RESUMO

Objective: The aim of this study was to observe the remission of primary membranous nephropathy (PMN) and evaluate the efficacy of tacrolimus (TAC) monotherapy for PMN in comparison with TAC combined with a low-dose glucocorticoid (GC) protocol (TAC + GC). Methods: This was tested in a prospective monocentric observational trial of 70 patients with PMN, of whom 34 received TAC (0.05-0.075 mg/kg/day) or 36 received TAC (0.05-0.075 mg/kg/day) and GC (0.3-0.5 mg/kg/day of prednisone). Results: At 3, 6, 9, and 12 months of treatment, the effective rates in the TAC group and the TAC + GC group were similar (P > 0.05). The urinary protein quantification was reduced in patients under both therapeutic protocols, and the differences in the proteinuria quantification at 3, 6, 9, and 12 months of treatment were not statistically significant between the two groups (P > 0.05). The overall incidence of adverse reactions in the TAC group was lower than that in the TAC + GC group (23.5% < 36.1%), and the difference was statistically significant (P < 0.05). Conclusion: TAC monotherapy for PMN could effectively reduce urinary protein quantification and increase serum albumin levels. Compared with TAC + GC, TAC monotherapy for PMN had no difference in efficacy and fewer incidences of adverse reactions.

RESUMO

Infection by the conjunctival sucking nematode Thelazia callipaeda results in ocular inflammation and immune impairment. T.cp-MIF, a macrophage migration inhibitor factor of T. callipaeda, can induce macrophage polarization and is involved in the host innate immune response, but little is known about the regulatory mechanisms and the actual immune effect. Understanding the immunoregulatory mechanisms carries significant clinical relevance for the development of novel preventative and therapeutic strategies. The macrophages were induced by T.cp-MIF in vitro, and the polarization direction at different times and the expression of inflammatory factors were detected by flow cytometry analysis, qPCR and western blotting. The key transcription factors and target genes were screened through transcriptome data, and the functions of transcription factors were verified by inhibition experiments in vitro. T.cp-MIF and T. callipaeda adult worms can cause inflammation of the ocular conjunctiva and macrophage infiltration. T.cp-MIF activated macrophages presenting M2b polarization after 48 h and played a role in inhibiting inflammation. Furthermore, based on the results of transcriptome data analysis and inhibition experiments, we demonstrate that this polarization is dependent on the involvement of the transcription factor C/EBPß and its target gene SESN2. Our results demonstrated that the C/EBPß-SESN2 axis plays an important regulatory role in T.cp-MIF-induced macrophage M2b polarization and it provides a new perspective for understanding the immune escape of ocular parasite infection.

RESUMO

Polygonum multiflorum Thunb. (PM) and derived products are broadly utilized in Chinese traditional medicine. According to our previous research, PM mostly contains polysaccharides, which display a wide range of biological activities. Two water-soluble polysaccharides (PMPs-1 and PMPs-2) were obtained from PM by DEAE-Cellulose and Sephadex G-100 column chromatography. Colorimetry, HPGPC-MALLS-RID, HPLC-PDA, methylation, FT-IR, NMR, and SEM were used to characterize these polysaccharides. PMPs-1 and PMPs-2 had average molecular weights of 255.5 and 55.7 kDa, respectively. PMPs-1 consisted of Man, Glc, Gal, and Ara at 0.9:78.6:1.0:1.6 and was a glucan with → 4)-Glcp-(1 → as a backbone. Meanwhile, PMPs-2, an acidic polysaccharide, comprised Rha, GalA, Glc, Gal, and Ara at 3.2:20.3:2.7:1.0:8.3. PMPs-1 and PMPs-2 significantly improved the proliferation of RAW 264.7 cells and induced NO, TNF-α, and IL-6 release. This study reveals that these two polysaccharides can be explored as novel immunomodulators and provide a basis for further development of PM in food and pharmaceutical industries.

RESUMO

Recombinant adeno-associated viruses (rAAVs) have emerged as promising gene therapy vectors due to their proven efficacy and safety in clinical applications. In non-human primates (NHPs), rAAVs are administered via suprachoroidal injection at a higher dose. However, high doses of rAAVs tend to increase additional safety risks. Here, we present a novel AAV capsid (AAVv128), which exhibits significantly enhanced transduction efficiency for photoreceptors and retinal pigment epithelial (RPE) cells, along with a broader distribution across the layers of retinal tissues in different animal models (mice, rabbits, and NHPs) following intraocular injection. Notably, the suprachoroidal delivery of AAVv128-anti-VEGF vector completely suppresses the Grade IV lesions in a laser-induced choroidal neovascularization (CNV) NHP model for neovascular age-related macular degeneration (nAMD). Furthermore, cryo-EM analysis at 2.1 Å resolution reveals that the critical residues of AAVv128 exhibit a more robust advantage in AAV binding, the nuclear uptake and endosome escaping. Collectively, our findings highlight the potential of AAVv128 as a next generation ocular gene therapy vector, particularly using the suprachoroidal delivery route.
