AIM: To study efficacy of anaferon pediatric in mice infected by pandemic influenza virus A(H1N1/09)v. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Influenza virus strain A/California/07/2009 (H1N1)v was used. Three groups of BALB/c mice intranasally inoculated with influenza virus were studied. First group received solution of Anaferon pediatric during 5 days before and 8 days after inoculation, 2nd group received Tamiflu during 5 days after inoculation. Distilled water was administered orally to mice from control group. RESULTS: It was shown that Anaferon pediatric used as preventive and treatment agent in mice intranasally inoculated with 100% infectious dose of influenza virus strain A/ California/07/2009 (H1N1)v had antiviral effect, which expressed in 10-fold decreased reproduction of influenza virus in lungs of infected mice compared to control group measured 4, 6, and 8 days after inoculation. CONCLUSION: Use of anaferon pediatric before and after inoculation with influenza virus A(H1N1/09)v was not less effective than use of Tamiflu after inoculation.

The cytological status, proliferation, and apoptosis of the buccal epithelium and the level of secretory immunoglobulin A were studied in 90 children living in a large ferrous metallurgy center (Tula). There were increases in the degree of cytogenetic impairments, a change in cell kinetic processes, and a reduction in local immunity in children in a more polluted area. There was a high significant correlation of karyological and immunological parameters with some chemical ambient air pollutants.

The important role of increasing plasma urea levels in renal failure progression was shown in Wistar rats with experimental uremia induced by subtotal nephrectomy. Renal structural lesions and dysfunction were the same as in rats fed a high-protein diet and in those on a low-protein diet supplemented with urea. The changes were much less in the control group of rats fed a low-protein diet alone. The findings suggest that high blood urea concentrations appear to be a cause of intraglomerular hemodynamic disturbances following renal failure progression.

Serological survey of 2586 persons with suspected toxocariasis revealed Toxocara antigen titers in 644 (24.9%). Canine toxocariasis affliction was 25%, environmental Toxocara egg contamination was 3.2%. Seropositive persons were recorded in 22 of the 24 districts. A patient-carrier ratio was 1:1.6. Visceral toxocariasis was more frequently notified in children. The clinical picture was polysymptomatic with a predominance of intoxication (86%), temperature responses (49%), abdominal (37%) and pulmonary (30%) syndromes.
