RESUMO

Omnibearing acceleration of charge/ion transfer in Li4 Ti5 O12 (LTO) electrodes is of great significance to achieve advanced high-rate anodes in lithium-ion batteries. Here, a synergistic combination of hydrogenated LTO nanoparticles (H-LTO) and N-doped carbon fibers (NCFs) prepared by an electrodeposition-atomic layer deposition method is reported. Binder-free conductive NCFs skeletons are used as strong support for H-LTO, in which Ti3+ is self-doped along with oxygen vacancies in LTO lattice to realize enhanced intrinsic conductivity. Positive advantages including large surface area, boosted conductivity, and structural stability are obtained in the designed H-LTO@NCF electrode, which is demonstrated with preeminent high-rate capability (128 mAh g-1 at 50 C) and long cycling life up to 10 000 cycles. The full battery assembled by H-LTO@NCFs anode and LiFePO4 cathode also exhibits outstanding electrochemical performance revealing an encouraging application prospect. This work further demonstrates the effectiveness of self-doping of metal ions on reinforcing the high-rate charge/discharge capability of batteries.

RESUMO

The exploration of cost-effective electrocatalysts with high catalytic activity and methanol tolerance to replace precious metal catalysts in the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) is highly desirable for direct methanol fuel cells (DMFCs). Herein, we report a novel complex composed of a CoFe alloy with a modulated electronic structure confined to nitrogen-doped carbon nanofiber (NCNF) and bamboo-like carbon nanotube (BCNT) by tuning the molar ratio of Co and Fe (CoFe@NCNF/BCNT). The synthetized catalysts possess one-dimensional (1D) mesoporous structure, high specific surface area, and rich pyridinic-N content. Notably, the Co1Fe1@NCNF/BCNT and Co1Fe3@NCNF/BCNT (Co:Fe ≈ 1:1 and 1:3) exhibited enhanced oxygen reduction activity and methanol tolerance, compared to unmodified samples. In addition, alkaline DMFCs containing Co1Fe1@NCNF/BCNT and Co1Fe3@NCNF/BCNT presented high power density (29.10 and 31.11 mW cm-2), exceeding that of Pt/C-modified DMFC (27.23 mW cm-2). Furthermore, the Co1Fe1@NCNF/BCNT-catalyzed DMFC exhibited high stability. This improved catalytic activity can be attributed to the rich surface area, controllable alloy composition, optimized N configuration, and favorable electronic interaction. The as-developed CoFe@NCNF/BCNT with multifunctional components may open a new avenue for designing highly active cathode catalysts for various fuel cells.

RESUMO

The high catalytic activity of non-precious metals in alkaline media opens a new direction for the development of alkaline direct methanol fuel cell (ADMFC) electrocatalysts. Herein, a highly dispersed N-doped carbon nanofibers (CNFs) -loaded NiCo non-precious metal alloy electrocatalyst based on metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) was prepared, which conferred excellent methanol oxidation activity and resistance to carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning through a surface electronic structure modulation strategy. The porous electrospun polyacrylonitrile (PAN) nanofibers and the P-electron conjugated structure of polyaniline chains provide fast charge transfer channels, enabling electrocatalysts with abundant active sites and efficient electron transfer. The optimized NiCo/N-CNFs@800 was tested as an anode catalyst for ADMFC single cell and exhibited a power density of 29.15 mW cm-2. Due to the fast charge transfer and mass transfer brought by its one-dimensional porous structure and the synergistic effect between NiCo alloy, NiCo/N-CNFs@800 is expected to be an economical, efficient and CO-resistant methanol oxidation reaction (MOR) electrocatalyst.

RESUMO

The toxic metal ions leaching and metal nanoparticles agglomeration were the critical issues for metal-based carbon materials during the peroxymonosulfate (PMS) activation processes. Herein, a facile strategy was first proposed that zero-dimensional Fe/Fe3C nanoparticles were embedded in one-dimensional N-doped carbon nanofiber (Fe/Fe3C@NCNF) to solve the above challenges. The as-obtained Fe/Fe3C@NCNF-800 possessed a low Ea value (11.7 kJ/mol) and exhibited high activity for activating PMS to degrade tetracycline (TC) in a wide range of pH 3-11. As expected, the iron ions leaching concentration of Fe/Fe3C@NCNF-800 was very low (0.082 mg/L). Meanwhile, the Fe/Fe3C@NCNF-800 was easily recovered from the reaction solution due to its magnetic properties. Both superoxide radicals (O2∙-) and non-radical of singlet oxygen (1O2) were the primary reactive oxygen species (ROS) in the Fe/Fe3C@NCNF-800/PMS system via quenching tests and electron spin resonance spectroscopy (ESR). The catalytic mechanism suggested that the Fe/Fe3C and graphitic N were the main active sites in the Fe/Fe3C@NCNF-800 for PMS activation. This work provided a facile method for the preparation of Fe-based carbon materials with high catalytic ability, low metal leaching and easy recycling, showing a broad prospect for environmental applications.

RESUMO

We applied a novel solid-liquid co-electrospinning approach to synthesize hybrid LaCoO3 perovskite nanoparticles@nitrogen-doped carbon nanofibers (LCNP@NCNF) as an effective and robust electrocatalyst for Zn-air batteries. LCNP@NCNF featured an integrated structure with well-crystallized perovskite nanoparticles uniformly distributed in micro/mesoporous NCNF. In addition, LCNP@NCNF exhibited a high specific surface area of ~183.3 m2 g-1 and a large pore volume of ~0.164 m3 g-1. The rotating-electrode measurement revealed the better intrinsic activity and more favorable stability of LCNP@NCNF in comparison with their counterparts. Moreover, Zn-air batteries employing LCNP@NCNF showed a relatively smaller discharge-charge voltage gap of ~0.95 V and longer cycling stability than the battery adopting the physically blended LCNP and NCNF. We ascribed the improved electrochemical activity to the enhanced synergistic interaction originating from the successful coupling of LCNP and NCNF.

RESUMO

Cortisol is an hormone that regulates blood pressure, glucose levels and carbohydrate metabolism in humans. Abnormal secretion of cortisol can cause various symptoms closely linked to psychological and physical health. In this study, high-performance field-effect transistor (FET)-based biosensors for cortisol detection were fabricated from N-doped multidimensional carbon nanofibers. Nanofiber morphology was controlled by tailoring the pressure conditions during vapor deposition polymerization (VDP). Thereafter, conductive channels of FET were completed by thermal annealing, acid treatment, and antibody attachment. Changes associated with chemical processes were characterized by various instruments. The resulting transducers exhibited a rapid response toward cortisol molecules with accurate selectivity, stable reusability, and high sensitivity. Minimum detection level were as low as 100 aM with a wide linear detection range of 100 aM to 10 nM due to the large surface area of the transducer and a correspondingly high number of antibody labels. The response and applicability of these cortisol biosensors were also assessed using saliva as a test matrix.
