While moral concern for animals has become increasingly important for both consumer food choice and food policy makers, previous research demonstrated that meat eaters attribute lower moral status and mental capacities to animals raised for meat compared to non-food animals. The current research investigated whether this strategic flexibility in moral concern and mind perceptions also occurs when considering aquatic food animals and animals used for dairy and egg products, and the degree to which these concerns and perceptions are evident in pescatarians and vegetarians. We compared perceptions (mind attributions and moral concern) of land food animals versus aquatic food animals, and of animals in the meat versus dairy and egg industry between omnivores (n = 122), pescatarians (n = 118), vegetarians (n = 138), vegans (n = 120), and flexitarians (n = 60). Pescatarians scored lower than other dietary groups on moral concern and mind attribution for aquatic animals relative to farmed land animals. Unlike the other dietary groups, pescatarians and vegetarians scored lower on moral concern and mind attribution for dairy than beef cows and for layer chickens than broiler chickens. These findings demonstrate that pescatarians and vegetarians were flexible in their moral thinking about different types of food animals in ways that suited their consumption habits, even when the same animal was evaluated (e.g., dairy vs beef cows). This research highlights the psychological barriers that might prevent people from reducing animal product consumption and may need to be addressed in interventions to encourage transitioning towards more plant-based diets.

Plant-based diets are quickly gaining popularity for their benefits to animal welfare, the environment, and public health. Compared to meat-eaters, meat-abstainers such as vegetarians and vegans are especially motivated by animal rights and the environment. However, little is known about the motivational and psychological factors that distinguish vegetarians from vegans, and what prevents vegetarians to shift towards a fully plant-based diet. In a sample of vegans (n = 335) and vegetarians (n = 182), we investigated a) motives for reducing or quitting meat consumption and b) motives for reducing or quitting animal product (dairy and egg products) consumption, as well as moral psychological and social-contextual factors that may explain potential differences. Results demonstrate that vegetarians and vegans tend to be similar in their motives to abstain from meat consumption and are most strongly motivated by animal rights. However, vegetarians are less motivated by health, environmental, and especially animal rights for dairy/egg reduction compared to meat reduction and compared to vegans. Lower moral concern for animals, stronger beliefs in human supremacy over animals, and heightened veganism threat among vegetarians (vs. vegans) partly explained why vegetarians were less strongly motivated by animal rights for dairy/egg reduction. Human supremacy beliefs also explained differences between vegetarians and vegans in health and environmental motives for dairy/egg reduction. Furthermore, vegetarians reported significantly less social support for plant-based diets and perceived more practical barriers to plant-based diets than vegans. These findings reveal meaningful differences in the motivational and psychological profiles of vegetarians and vegans and highlight the value of distinguishing between motives for meat-free diets and motives for plant-based diets.

OBJECTIVES: To describe the usage and advantages of bovine pericardium mesh (Tutopatch®) in breast reconstruction and to compare different mesh materials used in immediate breast reconstruction. METHODS: Our study involved a single-center, retrospective analysis of 103 patients (comprising 114 breasts) who underwent immediate implant-based breast reconstruction using bovine pericardium bovine matrix. The procedures were performed by the same surgical team between April 2018 and May 2023. RESULTS: The rates of early and late complications were examined after a median follow-up period of 30.2 ± 5.5 months. The results revealed that the rates of early complications stood at 9.7%, while late complications were observed in 14.5% of the cases. The most common late complication was seroma formation (7.7%) which six were resolved without any surgical intervention. CONCLUSION: Tutopatch® can be used as an extension of the muscle to cover the prosthesis. It forms an extra layer over the silicone implant that helps to decrease the complications as capsular contracture and implant exposure. It also represents a significant 85 % reduction in cost when compared to a similar-sized mesh materials. BACKGROUND: Plant-based substitutes are designed to have the same use as animal-based foods in the diet and could therefore assist the transition toward more plant-based diets. However, their nutritional impact has not been characterized. OBJECTIVES: We assessed and compared the effects of plant-based substitutes on the nutritional quality of the diet. METHODS: We simulated separately the substitution of meat, milk, and dairy desserts with 96 plant-based substitutes in the diets of 2121 adults (18-79 y old) from the cross-sectional French Third Individual and National Study on Food Consumption Survey (INCA3; 2014-2015). The quality of initial individual diets and the 203,616 substituted diets was evaluated using the Probability of Adequate Nutrient Intake (PANDiet) scoring system, which assesses the probability of adequate (sufficient and not excessive) nutrient intake; also, nutrient security was evaluated using the SecDiet scoring system, which assesses the risk of overt deficiency. RESULTS: Impacts on PANDiet depended on both the food substituted and the types of substitutes. Soy-based substitutes provided a slight improvement in diet quality (0.8% increase of the PANDiet score when substituting meat), whereas cereal-based substitutes resulted in a 1.1% decrease. Globally, substitutions led to better adequacies for fiber, linoleic acid, α-linolenic acid, vitamin E, folate, and SFAs, but lower adequacies regarding vitamin B-12 and riboflavin, as well as bioavailable zinc and iron when substituting meat, and calcium and iodine when substituting milk/dairy desserts. When they substituted dairy products, calcium-fortified substitutes allowed maintenance of calcium adequacy but there was a higher risk of iodine deficiency when substituting dairy, which may warrant iodine fortification. Substitutions modified the energy share of ultra-processed foods from 29% to 27%-40%, depending on the food substituted and the substitute used. CONCLUSIONS: Plant-based substitutes had a small effect on overall diet quality and heterogeneous impacts on nutrient adequacy and security. Plant-based substitutes that include legumes appear more nutritionally adequate to substitute animal products than do other substitutes.

This paper provides an overview of the importance of transparency at the World Trade Organization, a basic principle that translates into notification obligations. In particular, the paper details the related obligations under the Agreement on the Application of Sanitary and Phytosanitary Measures, and how it applies to trade in animals and animal products.


Les auteurs offrent une vue d'ensemble du rôle joué par la transparence au sein de l'Organisation mondiale du commerce, principe de base qui se traduit par une obligation de notification. En particulier, ils précisent les obligations prévues en vertu de l'Accord sur l'application des mesures sanitaires et phytosanitaires et la manière dont ce principe s'applique aux échanges internationaux d'animaux et de produits d'origine animale.


Los autores explican la importancia que dentro de la Organización Mundial del Comercio reviste la transparencia, un principio básico que se traduce en obligaciones de notificación. En particular, describen en detalle las obligaciones que en este sentido impone el Acuerdo sobre la Aplicación de Medidas Sanitarias y Fitosanitarias y cómo se aplica dicho principio al comercio de animales y productos de origen animal.

African countries that wish to export are increasingly faced with import risk assessments from importing countries concerned about the sources of their imported goods. Other risk analysis methodologies and approaches are also employed, which focus on animal and human health within countries and communities. Based on an analysis of evaluations conducted by the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE), using the Performance of Veterinary Services Tool, the authors attempt to define current practice in Africa and degrees of compliance with the World Trade Organization Agreement on the Application of Sanitary and Phytosanitary Measures ('SPS Agreement') and OIE standards. To assist in this task, the authors also make use of a review of selected risk assessment reports. Results point to a lack of technical capacity and capability to conduct risk assessments in compliance with OIE standards (except in the case of three countries), ranging from an outright absence of any form of (documented) risk assessment and consecutive risk management decisions (level of advancement 1) to shortcomings in one or several aspects of the risk assessment process. This is confirmed by a number of case studies, half of which have been produced by international consultants. The major recommendations of this paper are i) to strengthen the human resources pool for conducting risk assessments and ii) to establish dedicated risk assessment units, with clear terms of reference, job descriptions and policies, procedures and protocols.


Les pays africains souhaitant accéder aux marchés d'exportation sont confrontés à la réalisation de plus en plus fréquente d'appréciations du risque à l'importation par les pays importateurs, qui cherchent à vérifier les sources d'approvisionnement des marchandises qu'ils importent. D'autres méthodologies d'analyse du risque sont également pratiquées, axées sur la santé animale et la santé humaine au niveau des pays et des communautés. À partir d'une analyse des évaluations réalisées par l'Organisation mondiale de la santé animale (OIE) au moyen de l'Outil d'évaluation des performances des Services vétérinaires, les auteurs tentent de définir les pratiques actuelles en Afrique ainsi que le niveau de conformité des pays à l'Accord sur l'application des mesures sanitaires et phytosanitaires de l'Organisation mondiale du commerce (« Accord SPS ¼) et aux normes de l'OIE. Pour ce faire, les auteurs s'appuient également sur l'analyse d'une sélection de rapports d'appréciation du risque. Les résultats laissent apparaître l'inadéquation des capacités et des compétences techniques dédiées à l'appréciation du risque par rapport aux normes de l'OIE (à l'exception du cas de trois pays), depuis l'absence totale d'appréciation du risque à partir d'éléments documentés et de décisions relevant de la gestion de ce risque (niveau d'avancement 1), jusqu'à des insuffisances concernant un ou plusieurs aspects du processus d'appréciation du risque. Cette analyse est confirmée par une série d'études de cas, dont la moitié a été produite par des consultants internationaux. Les auteurs recommandent principalement de renforcer les ressources humaines dédiées aux appréciation du risque et de mettre en place des unités dédiées, en déterminant clairement leur mandat, leur fonction, ainsi que les politiques à mener, les procédures applicables et les protocoles à suivre.


Cada vez más, los países africanos que desean exportar son sometidos a determinaciones del riesgo de importación por parte de los países importadores, preocupados por la procedencia de las mercancías que importan. A veces también se emplean otros métodos y planteamientos de análisis del riesgo, centrados en determinados aspectos zoosanitarios y sanitarios de los países o comunidades de origen. Basándose en un análisis de las evaluaciones realizadas por la Organización Mundial de Sanidad Animal (OIE) con la Herramienta PVS, los autores tratan de aprehender los usos actualmente vigentes en África, así como los niveles de cumplimiento del Acuerdo sobre la Aplicación de Medidas Sanitarias y Fitosanitarias (Acuerdo MSF) de la Organización Mundial del Comercio (OMC) y las normas de la OIE, ayudándose también para ello del estudio de una serie de informes de determinación de riesgos. Los resultados ponen de relieve la falta de competencias y capacidades técnicas para llevar a cabo determinaciones de riesgos con arreglo a las normas de la OIE (salvo en el caso de tres países), con situaciones que van desde la ausencia absoluta de toda forma de determinación (documentada) de los riesgos y, a partir de ahí, de toda decisión para gestionarlos (nivel de progreso 1), hasta la existencia de uno o varios aspectos defectuosos en el proceso de determinación de riesgos, observación que confirman una serie de estudios monográficos, la mitad de ellos obra de consultores internacionales. Las principales recomendaciones de los autores apuntan a fortalecer la dotación de recursos humanos para efectuar determinaciones de riesgos y a establecer unidades dedicadas específicamente a esta labor, habiendo definido con toda claridad su mandato, los perfiles que deben integrarlas y sus políticas, procedimientos y protocolos de trabajo.

Cultured dermal substitutes have been used for the treatment of chronic skin ulcers; however, the biological risks of animal-derived materials in the culture process such as foetal bovine serum (FBS) have been reported. In this study, we prepared an autologous fibroblast-seeded artificial dermis (AFD) using animal-product-free medium supplemented with 2% patient autologous serum and without any animal-derived materials such as trypsin in the culturing process. We applied the AFD in five patients with diabetic ulcers and investigated its safety and efficacy. As the primary endpoint, we defined 'wound bed improvement' according to the percentage of granulation area to the whole wound area on day 21, and 60% or higher was regarded as improved. The mean age of the patients was 60·6 years and the mean duration of the ulcer was 22·6 months. In the evaluation of the primary endpoint, the 'wound bed' was improved in all patients [proportion of improvement: 100%, 95% confidence interval (CI): 48% to 100%]. Three patients had complete wound healing within 12 weeks after application and two patients had >80% wound healing at 12 weeks. Side effects were not serious. Our AFD may be a safe and effective treatment of diabetic ulcers.

Since 1958, cell culture media supplemented with fetal bovine serum is used, despite the well-known concerns about animal welfare, reproducibility, reliability, relevance, and safety. To obliterate these concerns and increase scientific accuracy, we recently published an open access, publicly available paper on a defined medium composition to make it possible for any lab to prepare this medium. The medium supports routine culturing and cell banking as well as investigations of growth curves, dose response testing of compounds of cells in 2D and 3D, and cell migration; all important aspects for research and toxicology. Here we give a detailed description of how to mix the defined universal cell culture medium in 14 simple steps to support any entity that wishes to make it. We also list different normal and cancer cell lines that have been cultured in the defined medium.•Open source composition of animal product free universal cell culture medium•Protocols for mixing solutions of small xeno free molecules for supplementation•Protocols for mixing solutions of human proteins for supplementation.

Schwannomas are slow-growing benign peripheral nerve sheath tumors derived from Schwann-lineage cells that develop in association with NF2-related schwannomatosis (NF2) and schwannomatosis (NF3), as well as spontaneously. Individuals affected with NF2 and NF3 have multiple schwannomas with tumors arising throughout life. Surgical resection, the standard management, is limited in scope and efficacy and is itself associated with significant morbidity. We have previously shown that direct intratumoral injection of attenuated Salmonella Typhimurium (S. Typhimurium), strain VNP20009, showed a potent anti-tumor effect in preclinical NF-2 schwannoma models. The United States Federal Drug Administration (FDA) requires that bacterial products utilized in clinical trials be produced without exposure to animal-derived-products. In this context, we developed, characterized, and tested the antitumor efficacy of an attenuated S. Typhimurium serially passaged in animal-product-free media, naming it VNP20009-AF for "VNP20009-animal-product-free." Our in vitro data did not indicate any significant changes in the viability, motility, or morphology of VNP20009-AF, compared to its parental strain. In vivo efficacy data demonstrated that VNP20009-AF and VNP20009 controlled tumor growth to the same degree in both human NF2-schwannoma xenograft and murine-NF2 schwannoma allograft models. Together, these data support the use of VNP20009-AF for the translation of bacterial schwannoma therapy into clinical trials.

As the global population increases and the economy grows rapidly, the demand for livestock products such as meat, egg and milk continue to increase. The shortage of feed in livestock production is a worldwide problem restricting the development of the animal industry. Natural woody plants are widely distributed and have a huge biomass yield. The fresh leaves and branches of some woody plants are rich in nutrients such as proteins, amino acids, vitamins and minerals and can be used to produce storage feed such as silage for livestock. Therefore, the development and utilization of natural woody plants for clean fermented feed is important for the sustainable production of livestock product. This paper presents a comprehensive review of the research progress, current status and development prospects of forageable natural woody plant feed resources. The nutritional composition and uses of natural woody plants, the main factors affecting the fermentation of woody plant silage and the interaction mechanism between microbial co-occurrence network and secondary metabolite are reviewed. Various preparation technologies for clean fermentation of woody plant silage were summarized comprehensively, which provided a sustainable production mode for improving the production efficiency of livestock and producing high-quality livestock product. Therefore, woody plants play an increasingly important role as a potential natural feed resource in alleviating feed shortage and promoting sustainable development of livestock product.

As the world's population grows, so does the need for more and more animal feed. In 2006, the EU banned the use of antibiotics and other chemicals in order to reduce chemical residues in food consumed by humans. It is well known that oxidative stress and inflammatory processes must be combated to achieve higher productivity. The adverse effects of the use of pharmaceuticals and other synthetic compounds on animal health and product quality and safety have increased interest in phytocompounds. With the use of plant polyphenols in animal nutrition, they are gaining more attention as a supplement to animal feed. Livestock feeding based on a sustainable, environmentally friendly approach (clean, safe, and green agriculture) would also be a win-win for farmers and society. There is an increasing interest in producing healthier products of animal origin with a higher ratio of polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) to saturated fatty acids by modulating animal nutrition. Secondary plant metabolites (polyphenols) are essential chemical compounds for plant physiology as they are involved in various functions such as growth, pigmentation, and resistance to pathogenic organisms. Polyphenols are exogenous antioxidants that act as one of the first lines of cell defense. Therefore, the discoveries on the intracellular antioxidant activity of polyphenols as a plant supplement have contributed significantly to the improvement of antioxidant activity, as polyphenols prevent oxidative stress damage and eliminate excessively produced free radicals. To achieve animal welfare, reduce stress and the need for medicines, and increase the quality of food of animal origin, the addition of polyphenols to research and breeding can be practised in part with a free-choice approach to animal nutrition.

Cell culturing methods are increasingly used to reduce and replace the use of live animals in biomedical research and chemical toxicity testing. Although live animals are avoided when using cell culturing methods, they often contain animal-derived components of which one of the most commonly used is foetal bovine serum (FBS). FBS is added to cell culture media among other supplements to support cell attachment/spreading and cell proliferation. The safety, batch-to-batch variation, and ethical problems with FBS are acknowledged and therefore world-wide efforts are ongoing to produce FBS free media. Here, we present the composition of a new defined medium with only human proteins either recombinant or derived from human tissues. This defined medium supports long-term culturing/routine culturing of normal cells and of cancer cells, and can be used for freezing and thawing of cells, i.e. for cell banking. Here, we show for our defined medium, growth curves and dose response curves of cells grown in two and three dimensions, and applications such as cell migration. Cell morphology was studied in real time by phase contrast and phase holographic microscopy time-lapse imaging. The cell lines used are human cancer-associated fibroblasts, keratinocytes, breast cancer JIMT-1 and MDA-MB-231 cells, colon cancer CaCo-2 cells, and pancreatic cancer MiaPaCa-2 cells as well as the mouse L929 cell line. In conclusion, we present the composition of a defined medium without animal-derived products which can be used for routine culturing and in experimental settings for normal cells and for cancer cells, i.e. our defined medium provides a leap towards a universal animal product free cell culture medium.

Background: The association between dietary intake of foods of animal origin and follicular lymphoma (FL) risk and survival is uncertain. In this study, we examined the relationship between dietary intake of dairy foods and fats, meat, fish and seafoods, and the likelihood of FL and survival. Methods: We conducted a population-based family case-control study in Australia between 2011 and 2016 and included 710 cases, 303 siblings and 186 spouse/partner controls. We assessed dietary intake of animal products prior to diagnosis (the year before last) using a structured food frequency questionnaire and followed-up cases over a median of 6.9 years using record linkage to national death data. We examined associations with the likelihood of FL using logistic regression and used Cox regression to assess association with all-cause and FL-specific mortality among cases. Results: We observed an increased likelihood of FL with increasing daily quantity of oily fish consumption in the year before last (highest category OR = 1.96, CI = 1.02-3.77; p-trend 0.06) among cases and sibling controls, but no associations with spouse/partner controls. We found no association between the likelihood of FL and the consumption of other types of fish or seafood, meats or dairy foods and fats. In FL cases, we found no association between meat or oily fish intake and all-cause or FL-specific mortality. Conclusion: Our study showed suggestive evidence of a positive association between oily fish intake and the likelihood of FL, but findings varied by control type. Further investigation of the potential role of environmental contaminants in oily fish on FL etiology is warranted.

Blood sausages consisting of groats, pork, porcine offal, fat, blood, and spices are very popular in the Czech Republic. All these ingredients are potential sources of dietary exposure to ochratoxin A (OTA). OTA has a strong affinity to serum proteins in porcine blood. Thus, the contamination of blood sausages with OTA can be expected. This study aims to evaluate OTA in 200 samples of porcine blood sausages purchased at the Czech market during 2020-2021. The analytical method high-performance liquid chromatography coupled with fluorescence detection with pre-treatment using immunoaffinity columns was employed to determine OTA. The limit of detection was 0.03 ng/g and the limit of quantification 0.10 ng/g. Recovery was 71.6 %. All samples were positive at contents ranging from 0.15 to 5.68 ng/g with a mean of 1.47 ng/g, and a median of 1.26 ng/g. A total of 66% of these samples contained OTA content exceeding the maximum limit of 1 ng/g set in Italy. This study demonstrates that the Czech population is exposed to OTA from blood sausages. The proposed preliminary action limit for OTA in blood sausages should be set at 1 ng/g. No regulatory limits for OTA in blood sausages have been established yet in the European Union legislation. To protect human health, further monitoring of OTA in these products is necessary.

Animal-based diets in Western countries are increasingly regarded as unsustainable because of their impact on human health, environmental and animal welfare. Promoting shifts toward more plant-based diets seems an effective way to avoid these harms in practice. Nevertheless, claims against the consumption of animal products contradict the ideology of the omnivorous majority known as carnism. Carnism supports animal-product consumption as a cherished social habit that is harmless and unavoidable and invalidates minorities with plant-based diets: vegetarians and vegans (veg*ns). In this theoretical review, we integrate socio-psychological and empirical literature to provide an identity-based motivational account of ideological resistance to veg*n advocacy. Advocates who argue against the consumption of animal products often make claims that it is harmful, and avoidable by making dietary changes toward veg*n diets. In response, omnivores are likely to experience a simultaneous threat to their moral identity and their identity as consumer of animal products, which may arouse motivations to rationalize animal-product consumption and to obscure harms. If omnivores engage in such motivated reasoning and motivated ignorance, this may also inform negative stereotyping and stigmatization of veg*n advocates. These "pro-carnist" and "counter-veg*n" defenses can be linked with various personal and social motivations to eat animal products (e.g., meat attachment, gender, speciesism) and reinforce commitment to and ambivalence about eating animal products. This does not mean, however, that veg*n advocates cannot exert any influence. An apparent resistance may mask indirect and private acceptance of advocates' claims, priming commitment to change behavior toward veg*n diets often at a later point in time. Based on our theoretical account, we provide directions for future research.

BACKGROUND: Listeriosis is one of the important emerging zoonotic disease affecting human health following the consumption of contaminated food of animal origin. It results in serious clinical complications in humans with a high case facility rate. Therefore, this systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to estimate the pooled prevalence of Listeria species in Ethiopia. METHODS: A systematic search was conducted on PubMed, Web of Science, EMBASE, Google Scholar and the Cochrane Library. All identified observational studies reporting the prevalence of Listeria species in different food items of animal and plant origin in Ethiopia were included. Three authors independently extracted data and analyzed them using STATA Version 13 statistical software. A random effects model was computed to estimate the pooled prevalence of Listeria species in Ethiopia. RESULTS: After reviewing 122 studies, five studies fulfilled the inclusion criteria were included in the meta-analysis. The findings from the five studies revealed that the pooled prevalence of Listeria species in different food items of animal and plant origin in Ethiopia was 27% (95% CI 25, 29). The highest prevalence of Listeria species was reported in beef meat followed by ice cream with prevalence rates of 62% (95% CI 50, 75) and 43% (95% CI 33, 53), respectively. CONCLUSION: The presence of Listeria species in different food items of animal and plant origin in Ethiopia is an indicator of the presence of public health hazards to the consumer, particularly to the high-risk groups. Hence, awareness creation on food safety and implementation of regulations is strongly recommended.

The growing interest in producing healthier animal products with a higher ratio of polyunsaturated to saturated fatty acids, is associated with an increase in lipoperoxidation. For this reason, it is essential to attenuate oxidative deterioration in the derived products. Natural antioxidants such as polyphenols represent a good candidate in this respect. The first part of the review highlights the occurrence, bioavailability, and the role of polyphenols in food-producing animals that, especially in intensive systems, are exposed to stressful situations in which oxidation plays a crucial role. The second part offers an overview of the effects of polyphenols either supplemented to the diet of monogastric and ruminants or added directly to meat and dairy products on the physicochemical and sensorial properties of the product. From this review emerges that polyphenols play an important, though not always clear, role in the quality of meat and meat products, milk and dairy products. It cannot be ruled out that different compounds or amounts of polyphenols may lead to different results. However, the inclusion of agro-industrial by-products rich in polyphenols, in animal feed, represents an innovative and alternative source of antioxidants as well as being useful in reducing environmental and economic impact.

Mycotoxin residues are transferred from feed to animal products, yet, less attention has been paid to it in developing countries. There is a need to find alternative alleviation material for reducing the impact of mycotoxin. This review is meant to elucidate different additives that can reduce mycotoxin residue in animal products in the world, especially in developing countries. There is evidence of relationship between mycotoxin residue in breast milk of nursing mothers and mycotoxin exposure through crop and animal product (egg and milk) intake, especially in Asia, Africa, Middle East, Latin America, and some parts of Europe. Younger livestock tends to have more toxin residues in their tissue compared to older ones. Grazing animal are also exposed to mycotoxin intake which corresponds to high level of mycotoxins in their products including meat and milk. This review shows that phytogenic, probiotic, and prebiotic additives can decrease mycotoxin residues in milk, eggs, meat liver and other tissues of livestock. Specifically, bentonites, difructose anhydride III, yeast (Trichosporon mycotoxinivorans), Bacillus spp., or their biodegradable products can reduce mycotoxin residue in animal products. In addition, Ally isothiocyanates from mustard seed were able to mitigate mycotoxins in silo-simulated system. Evidence shows that there are now low-cost, accessible, and eco-friendly additives, which could alleviate the effect of mycotoxin in feed and food. In addition, there is need for aggressive public awareness and farmers' education on the prevalence, and danger caused by mycotoxins, as well as detoxification strategies that can reduce toxin absorption into animal products.
