RESUMO

A triboelectric nanogenerator (TENG) is an emerging energy harvesting technology utilizing multi-directional, wasted mechanical energies stemming from vibrations, winds, waves, body movements, etc. In this study, we report a comb-structured TENG (CTENG) capable of effectively scavenging multi-directional motions from human movements, which include walking, jumping, and running. By attaching CTENG to a person's calf, we obtain a root-mean-square (RMS) power value of 5.28 µW (i.e. 13.12 V and 0.4 µA) for 1 s during mild running action (~5 m/s), which is sufficient for powering 10 light emitting diodes (LEDs). We integrate a CTENG with a simple hand-held pendulum (HHP) system with a natural frequency of 5.5 Hz. The natural frequency and input energy of our HHP system can be easily controlled by changing the holder mass and initial bending displacement, thus producing different output behaviors for the CTENG. Under the optimal HHP-based CTENG system design, the maximum output reaches 116 V at 6.5 µA under 0.1 kg mass and 4 cm bending displacement conditions. The corresponding output energy is 52.7 µJ for an operation time of 10.8 s. Our HHP-CTENG system can sufficiently power 45 LEDs and shows different output performances by varying the driving velocity of a vehicle, thus demonstrating the possibility for a self-powered velocity monitoring system.

RESUMO

High-performance MEMS accelerometers usually use a pendulum structure with a larger mass. Although the performance of the device is guaranteed, the manufacturing cost is high. This paper proposes a method of fabricating high-performance MEMS accelerometers with a TGV process, which can reduce the manufacturing cost and ensure the low-noise characteristics of the device. The TGV processing relies on laser drilling, the metal filling in the hole is based on the casting mold and CMP, and the packaging adopts the three-layer anodic bonding process. Moreover, for the first time, the casting mold process is introduced to the preparation of MEMS devices. In terms of structural design, the stopper uses distributed comb electrodes for overload displacement suppression, and the gas released by the packaging method provides excellent mechanical damping characteristics. The prepared accelerometer has an anti-overload capability of 10,000 g, the noise density is less than 0.001°/√Hz, and it has ultra-high performance in tilt measurement.

RESUMO

The compatibilizer with double comb structure has a superior compatibilizing effect for immiscible polymer blends due to the symmetrical structure on both sides of main chains. Extensive study related to the architectural effects of compatibilizer on the compatibilization has mainly focused on the side chains. We investigated the influence of the compatibilizer-main-chain structure on the compatibilizing effect for immiscible poly(vinylidene fluoride)/poly(L-lactic acid) (PVDF/PLLA) blends. Two reactive-comb compatibilizers with polystyrene (PS) and polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) as main chains and PMMA as the side chains have been synthesized. PS is immiscible with both PLLA and PVDF, while PMMA is miscible with PVDF. It was found that both compatibilizers can improve the compatibility between the PLLA and PVDF, with different compatibilization effects. In the PVDF/PLLA (50/50) blends, 1 wt.% poly(styrene-co-glycidyl methacrylate)-graft-poly(methyl methacrylate) (RC-SG) tuned the morphology from the droplet-in-matrix structure to the co-continuous structure, while the blends with poly(methyl methacrylate-co-glycidyl methacrylate)-graft-poly(methyl methacrylate) (RC-MMG) kept the sea-island structure with even 3 wt.% loading. Moreover, RC-SG induces a wider co-continuous interval range than RC-MMG. The co-continuous structure obtained by RC-SG was also more stable than that by RC-MMG. It was further found that RC-SG-compatibilized PVDF/PLLA blends exhibit higher mechanical properties than the RC-MMG-compatibilized blends.
