RESUMO

Enhancing electrocatalytic performance relies on effective phase control, which influences key catalytic properties, such as chemical stability and electrical conductivity. Traditional methods for manipulating the phase of transition-metal dichalcogenides (TMDs), including high-temperature synthesis, Li intercalation, and doping, involve harsh conditions and energy-intensive processes. This study introduces an innovative approach to crafting heterophase structures (2H-1T-WS2) in TMDs, using WS2 as a model compound, encompassing both semiconducting (2H) and metallic (1T) types through a straightforward potential activation method. Insights from in situ electrochemical Raman spectroscopy, HR-TEM, and XPS measurements reveal distinctive partial phase-transition behavior. This behavior enables the partially exposed basal plane of 2H-1T-WS2 to demonstrate superior activity in the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER), attributed to enhanced electrical conductivity and the exposure of highly active sites. The potential-induced phase transition presents promising avenues for the development of catalysts with heterophase structures.

RESUMO

In this work, we demonstrated the thermal analysis of different flip-chip bonding designs for high power GaN HEMT developed for power electronics applications, such as power converters or photonic driver applications, with large gate periphery and chip size, as well as an Au metal heat-spreading layer deposited on top of a planarized dielectric/passivation layer above the active region. The Au bump patterns can be designed with high flexibility to provide more efficient heat dissipation from the large GaN HEMT chips to an AlN package substrate heat sink with no constraint in the alignment between the HEMT cells and the thermal conduction bumps. Steady-state thermal simulations were conducted to study the channel temperatures of GaN HEMTs with various Au bump patterns at different levels of current and voltage loadings, and the results were compared with the conventional face-up GaN die bonding on an AlN package substrate. The simulations were started from a single finger isolated HEMT cell and then extended to multiple fingers HEMT cells (total gate width > 40 mm) to investigate the "thermal cross-talk" effect from neighboring devices. Thermal analysis of the GaN HEMT under pulse operation was also performed to better reflect the actual conditions in power conversion or pulsed laser driver applications. Our analysis provides a combinational assessment of power GaN HEMT dies under a working condition (e.g., 1MHz, 25% duty cycle) with different flip chip packaging schemes. The analysis indicated that the channel temperature rise (∆T) of a HEMT cell in operation can be reduced by 44~46% by changing from face-up die bonding to a flip-chip bonding scheme with an optimized bump pattern design.

RESUMO

The control of tobacco use in adolescents is a critical public health issue that has long been studied, yet has received less attention than adult smoking cessation. Shared decision making (SDM) is a method that highlights a patient's preference-based medical decision. This study aimed to investigate the effects of a novel SDM-integrated cessation model and early intervention on the control of tobacco use in adolescents. The SDM-integrated model provides psychological support and motivational enhancement by involving the participants in making decisions and plans through the three-talk model of the SDM principle. The primary outcome shows positive effects by both increasing the cessation rate (a 25% point abstinence rate at 3 month follow up) and decreasing the number of cigarettes smoked per day (60% of the participants at 3 month follow up) among 20 senior high school participants (mean age, 17.5 years; 95% male). The results also show that the model can achieve the goal of SDM and optimal informed decision making, based on the positive SURE test and the satisfaction survey regarding the cessation model. The SDM cessation model can be further applied to different fields of adolescent substance cessation, yielding beneficial effects regarding reducing potential health hazards. The dissemination of the model may help more adolescent smokers to cease smoking worldwide.

RESUMO

The Danshuei Estuary is distinctive for the relatively short residence time (1-2 d) of its estuarine water and the very high concentration of ammonia, which is the dominant species of dissolved inorganic nitrogen in the estuary, except near the river mouth. These characteristics make the dynamics of nitrogen cycling distinctively different from previously studied estuaries and result in unusual isotopic compositions of particulate nitrogen (PN). The delta(15)N(PN) values ranging from -16.4 per thousand to 3.8 per thousand lie in the lower end of nitrogen isotopic compositions (-16.4 to +18.7 per thousand) of suspended particulate matter observed in estuaries, while the delta(13)C values of particulate organic carbon (POC) and the C/N (organic carbon to nitrogen) ratios showed rather normal ranges from -25.5 per thousand to -19.0 per thousand and from 6.0 to 11.3, respectively. There were three major types of particulate organic matter (POM) in the estuary: natural terrigenous materials consisting mainly of soils and bedrock-derived sediments, anthropogenic wastes and autochthonous materials from the aquatic system. During the typhoon induced flood period in August 2000, the flux-weighted mean of delta(13)C(POC) values was -24.4 per thousand, that of delta(15)N(PN) values was +2.3 per thousand and that of C/N ratio was 9.3. During non-typhoon periods, the concentration-weighted mean was -23.6 per thousand for delta(13)C(POC), -2.6 per thousand for delta(15)N(PN) and 8.0 for C/N ratio. From the distribution of delta(15)N(PN) values of highly polluted estuarine waters, we identified the waste-dominated samples and calculated their mean properties: delta(13)C(POC) value of -23.6+/-0.7 per thousand, delta(15)N(PN) value of -3.0+/-0.1 per thousand and C/N ratio of 8.0+/-1.4. Using a three end-member mixing model based on delta(15)N(PN) values and C/N ratios, we calculated contributions of the three major allochthonous sources of POC, namely, wastes, soils and bedrock-derived sediments, to the estuary. Their contributions were, respectively, 83%, 12% and 5% under non-typhoon conditions, and 9%, 63% and 28% under typhoon conditions. The autochthonous POM had the most varied isotopic compositions, encompassing the full ranges of delta(13)C(POC) (-25.5 to -19.1 per thousand), delta(15)N(PN) (-16.4-3.8 per thousand) and C/N ratio (6.0-11.3). The heavy end of the carbon isotopic composition reflected the typical marine condition and the lower end the estuarine condition, which probably had elevated concentrations of dissolved inorganic carbon with low delta(13)C values due to input from decomposition of organic matter. The lack of isotopically heavy PN, as found in larger estuaries, was attributed to isotopically light starting materials, namely, anthropogenic wastes, the slow phytoplankton growth within the estuary and the rather short residence time; the latter two factors made (15)N enrichment during ammonia consumption very limited. The most isotopically light PN likely originated from phytoplankton incorporating (15)N-depleted nitrate near the river mouth, where ammonia inhibition of nitrate uptake probably stopped.
