BACKGROUND: After 2020, clinical practice recommendations have been released to inform cardiac rehabilitation (CR) programs of best practices for post-COVID programming. The objective of this systematic review was to identify and summarize recommendations from clinical practice guidelines (CPGs) and consensus statements for CR delivery postpandemic. METHODS: Five databases (March 2020 through April 2023), grey literature and Web sites of CR international associations were searched. Inclusion criteria were local, national, and international association-endorsed CPGs, and/or position, expert, and scientific statements related to CR delivery (program models, program elements, and core components). Two researchers independently screened the citations for inclusion. The Appraisal of Guidelines for Research and Evaluation (AGREE) II was used for quality assessment. Results were analyzed in accordance with the Synthesis Without Meta-analysis (SWiM) reporting guidelines. RESULTS: Overall, 4890 records were identified; 4 CPGs, 9 position/scientific statements, and 6 expert/Delphi consensus papers were included. All guidelines/statements included information related to program delivery models, with 95% endorsing the use of virtual, hybrid, home-based, and telerehabilitation, especially during the pandemic. Outside of the context of COVID-19, program components including referral, CR indications, CR contraindications, timing, and structure were included in the 4 CPGs and 2 of 15 statements. Recommendations related to CR core components were primarily focused on exercise, with no changes since before the pandemic except for COVID-19 considerations for safety. One guideline was specific to women, and 1 scientific statement to heart failure with preserved ejection fraction. CONCLUSIONS: Although 19 documents were identified, CR delivery in low resource settings and for culturally and linguistically diverse populations require attention. Additionally, few recommendations on nutrition, psychosocial counselling, and patient education were reported.

BACKGROUND: The COVID-19 pandemic initially led to discontinuation of the "traditional" center-based cardiac rehabilitation (CR) model. Virtual models emerged as an opportunity to deliver care, with many programs continuing to offer these models. OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to explore patients' perceptions of virtual models of either hybrid (combining center-based and virtual) or virtual-only CR since the pandemic. METHODS: Men and women who chose to participate in hybrid or virtual CR models between January 2022 and January 2023 were invited to attend 1 of 8 focus group sessions. Focus groups were conducted online until thematic saturation was reached. Transcripts were analyzed using thematic analysis. RESULTS: Twenty-three patients (48% female; 83% attending hybrid CR) participated in the study. Analysis revealed 12 overarching themes associated with the CR patient journey: pre-CR, namely, (1) importance of endorsement from healthcare providers and (2) need for education/communication while waiting for program initiation; during CR, namely, (3) preference for class composition/structure, (4) need to enhance peer support in the virtual environment, (5) convenience and concerns with virtual sessions, (6) necessity of on-site sessions, (7) safety of the exercise prescription, (8) requirement/obligation for allied health offerings, (9) satisfaction with virtual education, and (10) use of technology to facilitate CR participation; and post-CR, namely, (11) acknowledgment of program completion and (12) need for support/education after program graduation. CONCLUSIONS: Patients require ongoing support from time of referral to beyond CR program completion. Physical, psychosocial, nutritional, and educational supports are needed. Perceptions expressed by patients related to the program model are modifiable, and strategies to address these perceptions should be explored.

OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to systematically review the impact and characteristics of interventions with an educational component designed to improve enrollment and participation in cardiac rehabilitation (CR) among patients with cardiovascular disease. REVIEW METHODS: Five electronic databases were searched from data inception to February 2023. Randomized controlled trials and controlled, cohort, and case-control studies were considered for inclusion. Title, abstract, and full text of records were screened by two independent reviewers. The quality of included studies was rated using the Mixed Methods Assessment Tool. Results were analyzed in accordance with the Synthesis Without Meta-analysis reporting guideline. RESULTS: From 7601 initial records, 13 studies were included, six of which were randomized controlled trials ("high" quality = 53%). Two studies evaluated interventions with an educational component for health care providers (multidisciplinary team) and 11 evaluated interventions for patient participants (n = 2678). These interventions were delivered in a hybrid (n = 6; 46%), in-person (n = 4; 30%), or virtual (n = 3; 23%) environment, mainly by nurses (n = 4; 30%) via discussion and orientation. Only three studies described the inclusion of printed or electronic materials (eg, pamphlets) to support the education. Eleven of 12 studies reported that patients who participated in interventions with an educational component or were cared for by health care providers who were educated about CR benefits (inhospital and/or after discharge) were more likely to enroll and participate in CR. CONCLUSION: Interventions with an educational component for patients or health care providers play an important role in increasing CR enrollment and participation and should be pursued. Studies investigating the effects of such interventions in people from ethnic minority groups and living in low-and-middle-income countries, as well as the development of standard educational materials are recommended.

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the effectiveness of a virtual 12-week group-based education curriculum and to compare results with a retrospective cohort that received the same education in-person for 24 weeks. METHODS: Participants completed online surveys (pre- and post-intervention) assessing disease-related knowledge, adherence to the Mediterranean diet, exercise self-efficacy, and satisfaction. The number of steps taken per day was recorded using a wearable device. Paired t tests and repeated measures ANOVA were used. A Bonferroni correction was applied(p < 0.01). RESULTS: 80 CR participants receiving virtual education completed both assessments. Following virtual education, participants significantly increased knowledge(p < 0.001), adherence to the Mediterranean diet(p < 0.001) and number of daily steps(p = 0.01). These results were similarly observed in the in-person education group(n = 80), with no significant differences between groups. Virtual education participants decreased their self-efficacy post-intervention(p < 0.001); in contrast, participants of the in-person education increased their exercise self-efficacy(p < 0.001). Overall,31% of virtual and 71% of in-person education participants reported being satisfied with the education delivery format. CONCLUSIONS: A virtual group-based education curriculum was effective at improving knowledge and changing behaviour. Similar results were observed in those that received in-person education. Tailoring virtual education interventions to support exercise self-efficacy is warranted. PRACTICE IMPLICATION: This study strengthens the evidence supporting virtual education in CR.

Validity of bioelectric impedance in relation to dual-energy x-ray absorptiometry for measuring baseline and change in body composition after an exercise program in stroke. J Strength Cond Res 36(12): 3273-3279, 2022-Exercise is an important strategy to improve fat-free mass (FFM) and reduce percent fat mass (FM%). However, no study has reported on a valid, cost-effective method to measure changes in body composition after stroke. The purpose of the study is to determine the level of agreement between bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA) and dual-energy x-ray absorptiometry (DXA) for assessing baseline and change in FFM and FM% after an exercise training intervention for individuals with mobility deficits after stroke. Fat-free mass and FM% were measured by BIA and DXA at the beginning and after 6 months of participation in an exercise program for individuals with mobility deficits after stroke. Forty-two subjects after stroke were included. Overall, Bland-Altman plots revealed that BIA overestimated the baseline FFM and FM% by only -0.4 ± 1.8 kg and -2.8 ± 1.8%, respectively. BIA underestimated changes in FFM by 0.33 ± 0.45 kg and overestimated changes in FM% by -0.40 ± 0.68%. The 95% CI of the mean bias for baseline FFM was -7.1 to 6.3 kg and -11.8 to 6.0% for FM%, demonstrating good agreement. The 95% CI for the change in FFM was -3.8 to 4.5 kg and -5.0 to 4.2% for FM%, which reflected good agreement. BIA is a good tool for assessing qualitative baseline and change in FFM and FM%. Body composition is important for the prescription and evaluation of rehabilitation programs designed for individuals after stroke. Our results provide clinicians and researchers with a better understanding of the utility of BIA to measure body composition at baseline and in response to exercise interventions in this population.

BACKGROUND: The Parkinson disease (PD) is frequently associated with autonomic dysfunctions. However, data regarding the influence of PD on the autonomic responses to postural changes is limited. OBJECTIVE: To analyze and compare the autonomic responses, evaluated through linear and non-linear methods of heart rate variability, and cardiorespiratory parameters in two groups: Parkinson disease (PDG) and control (CG), at rest and during the active tilt test. METHODS: A total of 48 participants were analyzed (PDG: n = 25;73.40 ± 7.01 years / CG: n = 23;70.17 ± 8.20 years). The autonomic modulation and cardiorespiratory parameters were evaluated at rest and during the active tilt test. To assess the autonomic modulation the linear indices, at the time (rMSSD, SDNN) and frequency (LF, HF, LF/HF) domains, and the non-linear indices, obtained through the Poincaré plot (SD1, SD2, SD1/SD2), were calculated. The cardiorespiratory parameters evaluated were heart rate (HR), systolic (SBP), and diastolic blood pressure (DBP), peripheral oxygen saturation (SpO2), and respiratory rate. RESULTS: At rest, the PDG presented significantly lower values of rMSSD, SDNN, LF, HF, SD1, SD2, and DBP, and higher values of SpO2. During test, in the PD group, modifications were observed in HR, and SBP, besides a reduced parasympathetic response, and an increased global modulation. The qualitative analysis of the Poincaré plot showed that the PDG has a lower dispersion of the RR intervals during rest and the active tilt test. CONCLUSION: Individuals with PD present reduced global variability and parasympathetic modulation at rest, and reduced parasympathetic response and damage in HR regulation when performing the active tilt test, compared with controls.

OBJETIVOS: Analisar e comparar as respostas autonômicas, avaliadas por métodos lineares e não lineares de variabilidade da frequência cardíaca e parâmetros cardiorrespiratórios em dois grupos: DP (GDP) e controle (CG), em repouso e durante o tilt test ativo. MéTODOS: Foram analisados 48 participantes (GDP: n = 25;73,40 ± 7,01 anos/GC: n = 23; 70,17 ± 8,20 anos). A modulação autonômica e os parâmetros cardiorrespiratórios foram avaliados em repouso e durante o tilt test ativo. Para avaliar a modulação autonômica foram calculados os índices lineares, nos domínios do tempo (rMSSD, SDNN) e frequência (LF, HF, LF/HF), e os índices não lineares, obtidos através do plot de Poincaré (SD1, SD2, SD1/SD2). Os parâmetros cardiorrespiratórios avaliados foram frequência cardíaca (FC), pressão arterial sistólica (PAS), diastólica (PAD), saturação periférica de oxigênio (SpO2) e frequência respiratória. RESULTADOS: Em repouso, o GDP apresentou valores menores de rMSSD, SDNN, LF, HF, SD1, SD2 e PAD, e maiores valores de SpO2. No teste, foram observadas modificações na FC e na PAS, redução da resposta parassimpática e aumento da modulação global no GDP. A análise qualitativa do plot de Poincaré mostrou que o GDP apresentou menor dispersão dos intervalos RR no repouso e no tilt test ativo. CONCLUSãO: Indivíduos com DP apresentam redução da variabilidade global e modulação parassimpática em repouso, redução da resposta parassimpática e prejuízo na regulação da FC ao realizar o tilt test ativo, em comparação aos controles.

OBJECTIVE: This systematic review aimed to identify the information needs and preferences of individuals with CVD from underserved populations. METHODS: Five databases were searched from data inception to February 2022. Pilot and case report studies, non-peer-reviewed literature, and studies published in a language other than English, Portuguese, or Spanish were excluded. Structured and thematic analysis of all included studies were performed. The Critical Appraisal Skills Program and the Downs and Black Checklist were used to assess the quality of the qualitative and quantitative studies, respectively. RESULTS: Of 35,698 initial records, 19 studies were included, most in observational design and classified as "fair" quality. Underserved populations - women, people living in rural areas, ethnic minority groups, older people, and those with low socioeconomic status - presented unique needs in four main groups, with some similarities across them: information about CVD, primary and secondary prevention of CVD, CVD management, and health care, policies and practices. Across the studies there was a lack of standardization on how individuals' needs were assessed and reported. CONCLUSION: Underserved populations with CVD have unique information needs and preferences that should be address during their care. PRACTICAL IMPLICATION: Information from this study may assist health care professionals with the development of comprehensive strategies to improve their provision of care for specific CVD patient groups.

This mixed-method study aimed to compare physical activity (PA) patterns of a cross-over cardiac rehabilitation (CR) cohort with a center-based CR cohort and to explore barriers and facilitators of participants transitioning and engaging in virtual CR. It included the retrospective self-reported PA of a cross-over CR cohort (n = 75) and a matched center-based CR cohort (n = 75). Some of the participants included in the cross-over cohort (n = 12) attended semi-structured focus group sessions and results were interpreted in the context of the PRECEDE-PROCEED model. Differences between groups were not observed (p > 0.05). The center-based CR cohort increased exercise frequency (p = 0.002), duration (p = 0.007), and MET/minutes (p = 0.007) over time. The cross-over cohort increased exercise duration (p = 0.04) with no significant change in any other parameters. Analysis from focus groups revealed six overarching themes classified under predisposing factors (knowledge), enabling factors (external support, COVID-19 restrictions, mental health, personal reasons/preferences), and reinforcing factors (recommendations). These findings suggest an improvement of the PA levels of center-based CR cohort participants pre-pandemic and mitigated improvement in those who transitioned to a virtual CR early in the pandemic. Improving patients' exercise-related knowledge, provider endorsements, and the implementation of group videoconferencing sessions could help overcome barriers to participation in virtual CR.

OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to evaluate if there is a relationship between the number of comorbidities, autonomic modulation, and quality of life in patients diagnosed with coronary artery disease. METHODS: A cross-sectional study was conducted at an outpatient rehabilitation center in Presidente Prudente-SP, Brazil. A total of 27 participants (65.33±9.23 years) diagnosed with coronary artery disease were assessed, from a cardiac rehabilitation program, independent of sex or age. The number of comorbidities was evaluated using the Self-Administered Comorbidity Questionnaire, and quality of life was evaluated using the Medical Outcome Study 36-Item Short Form Health Survey (SF-36) (eight domains: functional capacity, physical aspects, pain, general health status, vitality, social aspects, emotional aspects, and mental health). To evaluate the cardiac autonomic modulation, the heart rate was registered beat to beat using an heart rate monitor in the supine position during rest for 30 min. A total of 1000 RR intervals were considered to calculate linear (time domain: RMSSD, SDNN; frequency domain: LF, HF, LF/HF) and nonlinear indices (SD1, SD2, SD1/SD2) of heart rate variability. RESULTS: A negative correlation was observed between the aggregation of comorbidities and the pain domain of the SF-36 (r=-0.427; p=0.03). No significant correlations were observed between other variables (p>0.05). CONCLUSION: The number of comorbidities is inversely related to the pain domain of the SF-36, suggesting that a higher pain level is related to a higher number of comorbidities in coronary artery disease patients.

Breast cancer accounts for 25% of all cancers among Canadian females. Despite successes of decreased mortality, adverse treatment effects, such as cardiotoxicity, contribute to a sedentary lifestyle and decreased quality of life. Physical activity (PA) is a possible therapy for the late effects; however, COVID-19 restricted access to in-person cardiovascular rehabilitation (CR) programs. The purposes are as follows: (1) compare PA of breast cancer survivors' in-person CR to virtual CR following a transition during COVID-19 and (2) compare the PA of the pandemic cohort to a matched cohort who had completed the program in 2018/2019; (3) explore survivors' experiences of transitioning to and engaging in virtual CR. Mixed methods included analysis of CR PA data from a pandemic cohort (n = 18) and a 2018/2019 cohort (n = 18) and semi-structured focus group interviews with the pandemic cohort (n = 9) in the context of the PRECEDE-PROCEED model. After the transition, there were no significant differences in mean activity duration, frequency, and cumulative activity (expressed as MET-minutes) (p > 0.05). However, variation of PA duration doubled following the transition from in-person to virtual (p = 0.029), while for the 2018/2019 cohort, variation remained unchanged. Focus groups revealed that women valued their CR experiences pre-COVID-19 and had feelings of anxiety during the transition. Perceived factors affecting participation were environmental, personal, and behavioural. Recommendations for virtual programs were to increase comradery, technology, and professional guidance. PA experiences during a transition to virtual care prompted by a pandemic vary among breast cancer survivors. Targeting individualised strategies and exercise prescriptions are important for improving PA programs and patient outcomes.

ABSTRACT Background: Intrinsic changes in Parkinson's disease (PD) affect the autonomic nervous system, and the disease course can aggravate the initial condition. Although the impact of time since disease onset on autonomic modulation has already been studied in other populations, this has not yet been investigated in PD. Objective: To investigate the impact of the length of time since diagnosis on the cardiac autonomic modulation of individuals with PD and compare with healthy individuals. Methods: Fifty participants were divided into three groups: a control group (CG; n = 24) and two groups with PD, divided according to the median length of time since diagnosis (median = 5.5 years): below the median (PG1; n = 13) and above the median (PG2; n = 13). To evaluate cardiac autonomic modulation, heart rate was obtained beat-to-beat in the supine position over a 30-min period, and heart rate variability (HRV) indices were calculated using linear methods in the time and frequency domains. Results: There were no significant differences in HRV indices between the PG groups, or between the three groups regarding Mean RR, LFun, HFun and LF/HF ratio. Significant reductions in the RMSSD, SDNN, pNN50, LFms2 and HFms2 indices were observed in PG1 and PG2, compared with CG. Conclusions: The cardiac autonomic modulation of individuals with PD was not influenced by the time since diagnosis. However, reduced parasympathetic and global modulation were observed in these individuals, compared with controls. RESUMO Antecedentes: As alterações intrínsecas da doença de Parkinson (DP) afetam o sistema nervoso autônomo, e a evolução da doença pode agravar o quadro inicial. Em outras populações, o impacto do tempo desde o início da doença na modulação autonômica já foi estudado, mas na DP isso ainda não foi investigado. Objetivo: Investigar o impacto do tempo de diagnóstico na modulação autonômica cardíaca de indivíduos com DP e comparar os valores aos de indivíduos saudáveis. Métodos: Cinquenta participantes foram divididos em três grupos: grupo controle (GC; n=24) e dois grupos com DP, divididos de acordo com a mediana do tempo de diagnóstico (5,5 anos): abaixo (GP1; n=13) e acima da mediana (GP2; n=13). Para a avaliação da modulação autonômica cardíaca, a frequência cardíaca foi captada batimento a batimento em posição supina durante 30 minutos, e os índices de variabilidade da frequência cardíaca (VFC) foram calculados utilizando métodos lineares nos domínios do tempo e frequência. Resultados: Não houve diferenças significativas para os índices de VFC entre os grupos GP, ou entre os três grupos para Mean RR, LFun, HFun e relação LF/HF. Foram observadas reduções significativas em RMSSD, SDNN, pNN50, LFms2 e HFms2, para GP1 e GP2 em comparação ao GC. Conclusões: A modulação autonômica cardíaca de indivíduos com DP não foi influenciada pelo tempo de diagnóstico, contudo, foi observada redução da modulação parassimpática e global nesses indivíduos em relação aos controles. Esses resultados reforçam a importância do exercício aeróbio para a melhora da modulação autonômica de indivíduos com DP.

BACKGROUND: Intrinsic changes in Parkinson's disease (PD) affect the autonomic nervous system, and the disease course can aggravate the initial condition. Although the impact of time since disease onset on autonomic modulation has already been studied in other populations, this has not yet been investigated in PD. OBJECTIVE: To investigate the impact of the length of time since diagnosis on the cardiac autonomic modulation of individuals with PD and compare with healthy individuals. METHODS: Fifty participants were divided into three groups: a control group (CG; n = 24) and two groups with PD, divided according to the median length of time since diagnosis (median = 5.5 years): below the median (PG1; n = 13) and above the median (PG2; n = 13). To evaluate cardiac autonomic modulation, heart rate was obtained beat-to-beat in the supine position over a 30-min period, and heart rate variability (HRV) indices were calculated using linear methods in the time and frequency domains. RESULTS: There were no significant differences in HRV indices between the PG groups, or between the three groups regarding Mean RR, LFun, HFun and LF/HF ratio. Significant reductions in the RMSSD, SDNN, pNN50, LFms2 and HFms2 indices were observed in PG1 and PG2, compared with CG. CONCLUSIONS: The cardiac autonomic modulation of individuals with PD was not influenced by the time since diagnosis. However, reduced parasympathetic and global modulation were observed in these individuals, compared with controls. These results emphasize the importance of aerobic exercise for improving autonomic modulation among individuals with PD.

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: Despite the growing burden of diabetes in the Philippines, available evidence indicates that its care and control are far from optimal, including patient education. The aim of this scoping review was to synthesize information in the available literature to describe the state of science of patient education for people living with diabetes in the Philippines, specific to educational needs, diabetes knowledge, and effectiveness of educational interventions. METHODS: Medline, Embase, Emcare, CINAHL, Pubmed and American Psychological Association PsycInfo were searched from data inception through July 2021. Studies of any methodology (qualitative/quantitative/mixed methods), sample size, and language were eligible for inclusion. RESULTS: Of 2021 initial citations, 7 studies were included, with all being quantitative in design and with a median Critical Appraisal Skills Program score of 8/12. Information needs were described by one study and related to self-care abilities. Diabetes knowledge was measured in 6 studies and improved significantly after educational interventions. Overall, studies showed that educational interventions significantly impacted self-efficacy, anthropometric measures, hemoglobin A1c levels, utilization of care and routine programme and attitudes regarding their health. CONCLUSIONS: The findings highlight the importance of a comprehensive and culturally appropriate educational intervention for this population. Further research is needed to develop such intervention and assess its effectiveness to change behaviour, such as increasing physical activity.

SUMMARY OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to evaluate if there is a relationship between the number of comorbidities, autonomic modulation, and quality of life in patients diagnosed with coronary artery disease. METHODS: A cross-sectional study was conducted at an outpatient rehabilitation center in Presidente Prudente-SP, Brazil. A total of 27 participants (65.33±9.23 years) diagnosed with coronary artery disease were assessed, from a cardiac rehabilitation program, independent of sex or age. The number of comorbidities was evaluated using the Self-Administered Comorbidity Questionnaire, and quality of life was evaluated using the Medical Outcome Study 36-Item Short Form Health Survey (SF-36) (eight domains: functional capacity, physical aspects, pain, general health status, vitality, social aspects, emotional aspects, and mental health). To evaluate the cardiac autonomic modulation, the heart rate was registered beat to beat using an heart rate monitor in the supine position during rest for 30 min. A total of 1000 RR intervals were considered to calculate linear (time domain: RMSSD, SDNN; frequency domain: LF, HF, LF/HF) and nonlinear indices (SD1, SD2, SD1/SD2) of heart rate variability. RESULTS: A negative correlation was observed between the aggregation of comorbidities and the pain domain of the SF-36 (r=-0.427; p=0.03). No significant correlations were observed between other variables (p>0.05). CONCLUSION: The number of comorbidities is inversely related to the pain domain of the SF-36, suggesting that a higher pain level is related to a higher number of comorbidities in coronary artery disease patients.

PURPOSE: This study explored the perceived barriers and facilitators to participation in patients who did and did not attend virtual cardiac rehabilitation (CR) education sessions. METHODS: A mixed-methods approach was used. Virtual patient education was delivered during the coronavirus-19 pandemic. Phase 1 included a cross-sectional online survey completed by individuals who did and did not participate in these sessions. For phase 2, six virtual focus group sessions were conducted using the social-ecological framework to guide thematic analysis and interpretation of findings. RESULTS: Overall, 106 online surveys were completed; 60 (57%) attended Cardiac College Learn Online (CCLO) sessions only, one (1%) Women with Heart Online (WwHO) only, 21 (20%) attended both, and 24 (22%) did not attend virtual sessions. Half of the participants who attended virtual sessions viewed between one and four sessions. Most participants were from Canada (95%) and included the Toronto Rehabilitation Institute/Toronto Western Hospital centers (76%). Focus group findings revealed six overarching themes: Intrapersonal (mixed emotions/feelings; personal learning preferences); Interpersonal (desire for warmth of human contact and interaction); Institutional (the importance of external endorsement of sessions); and Environmental (technology; perceived facilitators and barriers). CONCLUSION: These findings highlight the unprecedented situation that patients and CR programs are facing during the pandemic. Virtual patient education may be more accessible, convenient, and responsive to the complex needs of these CR participants.

Purpose: To evaluate the recovery period of autonomic modulation, through geometric indices of heart rate variability (HRV), on coronary artery disease (CAD) patients submitted to a cardiovascular rehabilitation session (CR), associated with hydration. Methods: Thirty male participants of a CR program, diagnosed with CAD were submitted to the control (CP) and hydration protocol (HP) characterized by a CR session. Only during HP were the participants given 8 equal portions of water. The water amount was determined through the hydric loss measured at the CP. During the protocols, the heart rate was measured beat-by-beat at rest (5-10 minutes[M1]) and at recovery (0-5 minutes [M2], 5-10 minutes [M3], 15-20 minutes [M4], 25-30 minutes [M5], 40-45 minutes [M6], 55-60 minutes [M7]) for the HRV analysis, performed by the geometric indices: TINN, RRTRI, SD1, SD2 and SD1/SD2 ratio. Results: Statistically significant differences were observed between the protocols (SD1, pvalue = 0.022), moments (TINN, pvalue = 0.001; SD1, pvalue = 0.019; SD2, pvalue = 0.001; SD1/SD2, pvalue = 0.001) and moments vs. protocol interaction (SD1, pvalue = 0.019). The SD1 index pointed to acceleration of parasympathetic recovery in the first minutes after exercising (HP recovery after M3 [86.07 ± 32.31%] vs. CP recovery after M5[86.43 ± 24.56]) and increase in global variability (TINN-HP remained increased in longer, until M5 (M1 83.10 ± 55.76 ms to M5 116.82 ± 67.54 ms) vs. CP that remained increased for a short time, until M2 (M1 77.93 ± 68.56 ms to M2 134.82 ± 56.08 ms). Conclusions: In CAD patients, hydration promoted a more efficient recovery on parasympathetic autonomic modulation and increased the global HRV in the recovery period.
