RESUMO

Background: Uterus didelphys is a rare congenital anomaly of the female reproductive tract characterized by a divided uterine cervix and body. It occurs due to abnormal development of the paramesonephric (Müllerian) duct. Different forms of uterus didelphys have been reported in several animal species, including bovine, equine, ewe, goat, swine, and bitch. However, there is no previous report that has documented a completely divided female genital tract in she-camel. Moreover, there is a lack of literature regarding this anomaly in animals. Therefore, the present study reports, for the first time, a rare case of a completely divided female genital tract in a she-camel. In addition, the existing relevant literature on uterus didelphys in different animal species is reviewed. Case presentation: A female reproductive tract of she-camel, approximately 10 years old, with a history of previous successful pregnancy, was brought to the anatomy department following the slaughtering of the animal. Initial examination revealed a normal reproductive tract consisting of two ovaries, two fallopian tubes, a uterus, and a vagina. A closer examination revealed a completely divided vagina, with an external os opened into each part of the vagina, as well as a divided uterine body and cervix. Intrauterine infusion of saline through one external os confirmed complete separation of uterine body and cervix. Conclusion: To the authors' knowledge, this is the first reported case of a completely divided female genital tract in a she-camel. This review summarizes the previous reports about uterus didelphys in farm animals.

RESUMO

A random initialization of the search particles is a strong argument in favor of the deployment of nature-inspired metaheuristic algorithms when the knowledge of a good initial guess is lacked. This article analyses the impact of the type of randomization on the working of algorithms and the acquired solutions. In this study, five different types of randomizations are applied to the Accelerated Particle Swarm Optimization (APSO) and Squirrel Search Algorithm (SSA) during the initializations and proceedings of the search particles for selective harmonics elimination (SHE). The types of randomizations include exponential, normal, Rayleigh, uniform, and Weibull characteristics. The statistical analysis shows that the type of randomization does impact the working of optimization algorithms and the fittest value of the objective function.

Polymorphism of killer-cell immunoglobulin-like receptors (KIRs) and their HLA class I ligands impacts the effector activity of cytotoxic NK cell and T cell subsets. Therefore, understanding the extent and implications of KIR and HLA class I genetic polymorphism across various populations is important for immunological and medical research. In this study, we conducted a high-resolution investigation of KIR and HLA class I diversity in three distinct Chinese ethnic minority populations. We studied the She, Yugur, and Tajik, and compared them with the Zhejiang Han population (Zhe), which represents the majority Southern Han ethnicity. Our findings revealed that the Tajik population exhibited the most diverse KIR copy number, allele, and haplotype diversity among the four populations. This diversity aligns with their proposed ancestral origin, closely resembling that of Iranian populations, with a relatively higher presence of KIR-B genes, alleles, and haplotypes compared with the other Chinese populations. The Yugur population displayed KIR distributions similar to those of the Tibetans and Southeast Asians, whereas the She population resembled the Zhe and other East Asians, as confirmed by genetic distance analysis of KIR. Additionally, we identified 12.9% of individuals across the three minority populations as having KIR haplotypes characterized by specific gene block insertions or deletions. Genetic analysis based on HLA alleles yielded consistent results, even though there were extensive variations in HLA alleles. The observed variations in KIR interactions, such as higher numbers of 2DL1-C2 interactions in Tajik and Yugur populations and of 2DL3-C1 interactions in the She population, are likely shaped by demographic and evolutionary mechanisms specific to their local environments. Overall, our findings offer valuable insights into the distribution of KIR and HLA diversity among three distinct Chinese ethnic minority populations, which can inform future clinical and population studies.

Introduction: Sleep hygiene education (SHE) consists of environmental and behavioral practices primarily intended to reduce sleep problems. Currently considered ineffective as a stand-alone treatment, the manner in which the education is typically delivered may be ineffective for the acquisition of new knowledge. The purpose of this study was to determine if a more engaging teaching medium may improve the efficacy of sleep hygiene education. This study examined the use of game-based learning to teach SHE to individuals with sleep problems. Methods: 35 participants played the SHE games for 30 days. Differences in pre- and post-state anxiety and sleep quality measures were examined. Results: Participants had significant improvements in sleep quality and state anxiety after using the app for 30 days, although scores for the majority of patients remained elevated. Discussion: This pilot investigation provides initial evidence for the efficacy of a game-based approach to SHE.

In this work, we propose a SiC-NSFET structure that uses a PTS scheme only under the gate, with SiC layers under the source and drain, to improve the leakage current and thermal reliability. Punch-through stopper (PTS) doping is widely used to suppress the leakage current, but aggressively high PTS doping will cause additional band-to-band (BTBT) current. Therefore, the bottom oxide isolation nanosheet field-effect transistor (BOX-NSFET) can further reduce the leakage current and become an alternative to conventional structures with PTS. However, thermal reliability issues, like bias temperature instability (BTI), hot carrier injection (HCI), and time-dependent dielectric breakdown (TDDB), induced by the self-heating effect (SHE) of BOX-NSFET, become more profound due to the lower thermal conductivity of SiO2 than silicon. Moreover, the bottom oxide will reduce the stress along the channel due to the challenges associated with growing high-quality SiGe material on SiO2. Therefore, this method faces difficulties in enhancing the mobility of p-type devices. The comprehensive TCAD simulation results show that SiC-NSFET significantly suppresses the substrate leakage current compared to the conventional structure with PTS. In addition, compared to the BOX-NSFET, the stress reduction caused by the bottom oxide is avoided, and the SHE is mitigated. This work provides significant design guidelines for leakage and thermal reliability optimization of next-generation advanced nodes.

Saharan population in Algeria still depending on bovine milk, which suffers from serious constraints undermining its sustainability. Camelus dromedarius milk has experienced growing demand following the emerging market requirements for livestock production and dairy farming over the past decade. The present work aimed at analysing the effect of nutritional regime on milk quality. The differences in pH, Acidity D°, Ash and Fats were significant. The pH was negatively influenced by the intensification conditions such as the much higher use of concentrates. The major constituents of milk were strongly and positively correlated with barley, wheat bran, TN/Kg.DM (Total Nitrogen/ Kg. Dry Matter), Kg.DM, Concentrates and daily watering. The results showed that a good energy-protein balance around 73 g PDI/UFL (Protein Digestible in the Intestine/Energetic Forage Unit for milk production) was beneficial for a better milk protein ratio. The use of corn, soybeans, palm dates and VM-premix (Vitamin Mineral) supplementation were also favourable to the synthesis of fats. Crude fiber and cell walls were better valued in the synthesis of fats with the availability of concentrates and the increasing of TN /Kg.DM and VM-premix rate in dietary regime. The vitamin C content elevate following high ratio of UFL /Kg.DM and PDI/UFL. For thus, the influence of nutritional status can lead to major improvements that need also more advanced and detailed studies.

In this paper, we investigate the effects of negative bias instability (NBTI) and self-heating effect (SHE) on threshold voltage in NSFETs. To explore accurately the interaction between SHE and NBTI, we established an NBTI simulation framework based on trap microdynamics and considered the influence of the self-heating effect. The results show that NBTI weakens the SHE effect, while SHE exacerbates the NBTI effect. Since the width of the nanosheet in NSFET has a significant control effect on the electric field distribution, we also studied the effect of the width of the nanosheet on the NBTI and self-heating effect. The results show that increasing the width of the nanosheet will reduce the NBTI effect but will enhance the SHE effect. In addition, we extended our research to the SRAM cell circuit, and the results show that the NBTI effect will reduce the static noise margin (SNM) of the SRAM cell, and the NBTI effect affected by self-heating will make the SNM decrease more significantly. In addition, our research results also indicate that increasing the nanosheet width can help slow down the NBTI effect and the negative impact of NBTI on SRAM performance affected by the self-heating effect.

Dramatic metabolic changes during pregnancy and post-partum period resulted in alteration of the biochemical parameters in dromedary she-camels. The current study focused on assessment of stress indicators in post-partum dromedary she-camels on days 14, 28 and 42 post-calving through monitoring the clinical findings, serum steroid hormones, serum or milk oxidant/antioxidant indicators, and milk somatic cell count (SCC) status with reference to serum lipid profile changes. The study also stated several correlations between reproductive cyclicity parameters, stress biomarkers and serum-milk oxidant/antioxidant indicators. The study was conducted on clinically healthy recently calved she-camels (n = 25). They were subjected to clinical and laboratory assays including lipid profiles, serum steroid hormones [Progesterone (P4) and estradiol (E2)], serum or milk oxidant/antioxidant biomarkers [Malondialdehyde (MDA), reduced glutathione (GSH) and cortisol], and milk SCC on days 14, 21 and 28 post-calving. The study concluded the influence of stress as a result of lactation in post-partum period in recently calved she-camels and its relationship with reproductive cyclicity as well as changes in serum steroids, lipid profiles, serum-milk oxidant/antioxidants parameters, and milk SCC that was reflected through significant elevations in serum levels of P4, E2, cortisol, MDA and glucose, and milk values of MDA, cortisol and SCC as well as significant drop in serum levels of GSH, TPs, albumins and globulins on day 14 post-calving comparing with their values particularly on day 42. The study stated variable correlation relationships between reproductive cyclicity parameters, lipid profiles, serum-milk oxidant/antioxidants parameters and milk SCC.

Heavy metals are one of the most toxic chemical pollutants of the environment. Their hazards not restricted to human but extend to animal productivity and reproductively. The present study aimed to assess the impact of grazing around industrial areas on the levels of copper (Cu) and aluminum (Al) residues in milk samples collected from dromedary she-camels and studying their effects on some ovarian hormones. In addition, the study aimed to investigate methods of removal of the toxic concentrations of these heavy metals in milk by applying different technological processes. Blood and milk samples were collected from 30 dromedary she-camels, 15 grazing in non-industrial areas (group A) and 15 grazing in industrial areas (group B). Detection of the levels of these heavy metals in milk was done. Ovarian hormones investigation on the blood was performed. Different technological processes such as boiling, skimming and fermentation were applied to all contaminated samples to reduce the toxic concentrations of these heavy metals. Results revealed that all examined milk samples in both groups contained Cu, while 40% of group A and 100 % of group B contained Al residues with different concentrations. The levels of Cu and Al residues in samples of group A not exceeded the maximum residual limit (MRL) set by World Health Organization (WHO) while 60% and 100% of milk samples in group B contained Cu and Al residues exceeded MRL, respectively. Technological processes induce variant changes in the levels of these metals in milk. Heat treatment of milk in Al vats leads to leaching of Al from containers to the milk causing significant increase in Al load, while Cu level was not significantly affected. Boiling in stainless-steel containers decreased the levels of Al and Cu but in non-significant levels. Regarding skimming process, small amount of Cu and Al escaped into the skimmed milk while greater amount were recovered in the cream. Fermentation by probiotic bacteria showed that milk fermentation has non-significant effect on Cu and Al levels. Investigation of ovarian hormones (estrogen and progesterone) revealed presence of a signification reduction in the levels of these hormones in group B compared to group A. In addition, a negative correlation was found between these heavy metals and ovarian hormones concentrations in the blood. It is concluded that grazing of dromedary camels around industrial areas induce heavy metals toxicity represented by excretion of these metals in milk and significant reduction on ovarian function showed by reduction of estrogen and progesterone levels. Technological processes such as skimming decreased the levels of Al and Cu residues in milk.

In recent years, imaging has emerged as a promising source of several intriguing biomarkers in epilepsy, due to the impressive growth of imaging technology, supported by methodological advances and integrations of post-processing techniques. Bearing in mind the mutually influencing connection between sleep and epilepsy, we focused on sleep-related hypermotor epilepsy (SHE) and sudden unexpected death in epilepsy (SUDEP), aiming to make order and clarify possible clinical utility of emerging multimodal imaging biomarkers of these two epilepsy-related entities commonly occurring during sleep. Regarding SHE, advanced structural techniques might soon emerge as a promising source of diagnostic and predictive biomarkers, tailoring a targeted therapeutic (surgical) approach for MRI-negative subjects. Functional and metabolic imaging may instead unveil SHE's extensive and night-related altered brain networks, providing insights into distinctions and similarities with non-epileptic sleep phenomena, such as parasomnias. SUDEP is considered a storm that strikes without warning signals, but objective subtle structural and functional alterations in autonomic, cardiorespiratory, and arousal centers are present in patients eventually experiencing SUDEP. These alterations could be seen both as susceptibility and diagnostic biomarkers of the underlying pathological ongoing loop ultimately ending in death. Finally, given that SHE and SUDEP are rare phenomena, most evidence on the topic is derived from small single-center experiences with scarcely comparable results, hampering the possibility of performing any meta-analytic approach. Multicenter, longitudinal, well-designed studies are strongly encouraged.

ObjectiveTo observe the clinical effectiveness and safety of She medicine (畲药) Diren Zishen Formula(地稔滋肾方) combined with acupuncture as adjunctive treatment for primary biliary cholangitis with liver and kidney yin deficiency syndrome. MethodsSeventy patients of primary biliary cholangitis with liver and kidney yin deficiency syndrome were randomly divided into a control group and a treatment group, with 35 patients in each group. The control group received oral ursodeoxycholic acid capsules (250 mg per dose, three times daily). The treatment group received She medicine Diren Zishen Formula oral decoction (one dose daily, 200 ml per dose in the morning and evening, served warm) and acupuncture [bilateral Sanyingjiao (SP6), Taichong (LR3), Ganshu (BL18), Zusanli (ST36), Fenglong (ST17), once daily, 5 consecutive days per week] in addition to the same treatment as the control group. The treatment duration was three months for both groups. Comparisons were made between the two groups before and after treatment for the following parameters, which were four traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) symptoms scores (skin itching, fatigue, jaundice, and flank pain), TCM syndrome scores, liver function indicators including aspartate aminotransferase (AST), alanine aminotransferase (ALT), alkaline phosphatase (ALP), gamma-glutamyl transferase (GGT) and total bilirubin (TBiL), liver fibrosis markers including serum laminin (LN), serum hyaluronic acid (HA), serum type Ⅳ collagen (Ⅳ-C) and serum type Ⅲ procollagen (PC-Ⅲ), and inflammatory factor indicators including serum interleukin-6 (IL-6) and tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α). The effectiveness of TCM syndrome between the two groups was compared and safety evaluations were also conducted after treatment. ResultsA total of 32 cases were finally analyzed in the treatment group, while the control group had 31 cases. The total effective rate of TCM syndrome in the treatment group (87.50%, 28/32) was higher than that in the control group (67.74%, 20/31) (P<0.05). After treatment, the TCM symptom scores, syndrome scores, liver function, and liver fibrosis markers in both groups signi-ficantly decreased, while in the treatment group, the inflammatory factor indicators decreased after treatment, and more decreases were found than those in the control group (P<0.05 or P<0.01). Both groups had good safety, and no adverse reactions were observed. ConclusionThe combination of She medicine Diren Zishen Formula and acupuncture as an adjunctive treatment for primary biliary cholangitis can significantly improve the clinical effectiveness, improve liver function, reduce inflammatory response, and alleviate liver fibrosis, with good safety.

With characteristic size scaling down to the nanoscale range, the confined geometry exacerbates the self-heating effect (SHE) in nanoscale devices. In this paper, the impact of ambient temperature (Tamb) on the SHE in stacked nanosheet transistors is investigated. As the number of lateral stacks (Nstack) increases, the nanoscale devices show more severe thermal crosstalk issues, and the current performance between n- and p-type nanoscale transistors exhibits different degradation trends. To compare the effect of different Tamb ranges, the temperature coefficients of current per stack and threshold voltage are analyzed. As the Nstack increases from 4 to 32, it is verified that the zero-temperature coefficient bias point (VZTC) decreases significantly in p-type nanoscale devices when Tamb is above room temperature. This can be explained by the enhanced thermal crosstalk. Then, the gate length-dependent electrothermal characteristics with different Nstacks are investigated at various Tambs. To explore the origin of drain current variation, the temperature-dependent backscattering model is utilized to explain the variation. At last, the simulation results verify the impact of Tamb on the SHE. The study provides an effective design guide for stacked nanosheet transistors when considering multiple stacks in circuit applications.

The complementary field-effect transistor (CFET) with N-type FET (NFET) stacked on P-type FET (PFET) is a promising device structure based on gate-all-around FET (GAAFET). Because of the high-density stacked structure, the self-heating effect (SHE) becomes more and more severe. Buried thermal rail (BTR) technology on top of the buried power rail (BPR) process is proposed to improve heat dissipation. Through a systematical 3D Technology Computer Aided Design (TCAD) simulation, compared to traditional CFET and CFET with BPR only, the thermal resistance (Rth) of CFET can be significantly reduced with BTR technology, while the drive capability is also improved. Furthermore, based on the proposed BTR technology, different power delivery structures of top-VDD-top-VSS (TDTS), bottom-VDD-bottom-VSS (BDBS), and bottom-VDD-top-VSS (BDTS) were investigated in terms of electrothermal and parasitic characteristics. The Rth of the BTR-BDTS structure is decreased by 5% for NFET and 9% for PFET, and the Ion is increased by 2% for NFET and 7% for PFET.

The post-pandemic era has transformed work-life boundaries, driven by factors such as working hours, an increased number of working women and single parents, the implementation of various ICTs, and the rise of flexible work arrangements. This study examines the role of female workers and entrepreneurs in establishing and managing coworking spaces (CSs) designed to improve work-life balance through flexible scheduling and location options. The challenges faced by female entrepreneurs in promoting an inclusive society and economic system are also explored, as well as the benefits experienced by independent workers and teleworkers in terms of networking, social interaction, knowledge exchange, and community building. The "She Economy" is analyzed in three stages: germination, growth, and maturity, considering challenges from both family and workplaces. This paper investigates the background of female identity and the ideological transformation of female identity in the consumption process after the pandemic, using mass media, especially female-focused media, as a lens. Finally, the paper proposes recommendations for the future development of the "She Economy" from the perspectives of communicators, women, and the social environment.

OBJECTIVE: The traditional She medicine is a notable type of traditional Chinese medicine, which has been applied for a long history despite the lack of sufficient mechanistic understanding. Our study revealed the possible molecular mechanism of sesquiterpene 5α-Hydroxycostic acid, active ingredient of traditional She medicine Artemisia lavandulaefolia DC., in the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis (RA). METHODS: RA-fibroblast like synoviocytes (RA-FLSs) were treated with 5α-Hydroxycostic acid, Anthemidin, and methotrexate (MTX). CCK-8 and ELISA were used to measure the resultant viability of RA-FLSs and to quantify pro-inflammatory cytokines. Target genes of 5α-Hydroxycostic acid and Anthemidin, RA-related differentially expressed genes, and RA-related genes were retrieved by bioinformatics analyses, results of which were further intersected to identify candidate genes. The protein-protein interaction network was constructed to develop the pharmacophore model. The molecular docking was simulated to determine the core target androgen receptor (AR) for subsequent molecular mechanism investigation in vitro. RESULTS: The 5ɑ-Hydroxycostic acid, Anthemidin, or MTX of different concentrations inhibited the viability of RA-FLSs, and downregulated the levels of proinflammatory cytokines. The pharmacophore model and molecular docking of 10 candidate targets with 5α-Hydroxycostic acid were successfully established. In vitro experiments provided evidence confirming that 5α-Hydroxycostic acid elevated AR expression to inhibit inflammatory responses of RA-FLSs and degradation of extracellular matrix. CONCLUSION: Therefore, this study reveals the active ingredient sesquiterpene 5α-Hydroxycostic acid of traditional She medicine Artemisia lavandulaefolia DC., and illustrates potential molecular mechanism in RA treatment by upregulating AR expression. This study is the first to report the effect of the active ingredient sesquiterpenes in traditional She medicine A.lavandulaefolia DC on RA and elucidate the underlying molecular mechanism associated with up-regulated AR expression. This study provides new insights into the mechanistic understanding of traditional She medicine in the treatment of RA.

Freshly-used crude drugs have unique functions and advantages in TCM practice of treating diseases. Jinlong Capsule is a patent traditional Chinese medicine product effective for treatment of hepatocarcinoma, and fresh Jinqian Baihua She (JBS, the body of juvenile Bungarus multicinctus) is one of its important ingredients. The emergence of counterfeit fresh JBS, often identified as dried JBS with almost identical appearance, poses a difficult problem in the quality control of the product. Herein we report a molecular quantification-based method for differentiation of fresh and dried JBS by determining the copy number of a specific DNA marker in the samples. Using species-specific primers and TaqMan probes, we established a real-time quantitative PCR system for amplification of a fragment in the 658-bp cytochrome oxidase subunit I (COI) region from JBS specimens. The amplicon copy number in the muscle tissues ranged from 1.14 × 107 to 4.83 × 107 copies/mg in fresh JBS samples, as compared with 1.13 × 105-8.91 × 106 copies/mg in dried JBS samples. Based upon Fisher discriminant analysis, we used 1.27 × 107 copies/mg as the cut-off value for differentiating fresh and dried JBS, which was validated in the single-blinded validation test of fresh and dried JBS samples. This qPCR system may provide an efficient means for accurate identification of fresh JBS to improve the quality control of the medicinal product.

Purpose: There is a lack of evidence regarding answers for clinical questions about treating insomnia disorder. This study aimed to answer the following clinical questions: (1) how to use each hypnotic and non-pharmacological treatment differently depending on clinical situations and (2) how to reduce or stop benzodiazepine hypnotics using alternative pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatments. Methods: Experts were asked to evaluate treatment choices based on 10 clinical questions about insomnia disorder using a nine-point Likert scale (1 = "disagree" to 9 = "agree"). The responses of 196 experts were collected, and the answers were categorized into first-, second-, and third-line recommendations. Results: The primary pharmacological treatment, lemborexant (7.3 ± 2.0), was categorized as a first-line recommendation for sleep initiation insomnia, and lemborexant (7.3 ± 1.8) and suvorexant (6.8 ± 1.8) were categorized as the first-line recommendations for sleep maintenance insomnia. Regarding non-pharmacological treatments for primary treatment, sleep hygiene education was categorized as the first-line recommendation for both sleep initiation (8.4 ± 1.1) and maintenance insomnia (8.1 ± 1.5), while multicomponent cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia was categorized as the second-line treatment for both sleep initiation (5.6 ± 2.3) and maintenance insomnia (5.7 ± 2.4). When reducing or discontinuing benzodiazepine hypnotics by switching to other medications, lemborexant (7.5 ± 1.8) and suvorexant (6.9 ± 1.9) were categorized as first-line recommendations. Conclusion: Expert consensus indicates that orexin receptor antagonists and sleep hygiene education are recommended as first-line treatments in most clinical situations to treat insomnia disorder.

Messenger RNA (mRNA) localization is an important mechanism controlling local protein synthesis. In budding yeast, asymmetric localization of transcripts such as ASH1 mRNA to the bud tip depends on the She2 RNA-binding protein. She2 assembles as a tetramer to bind RNA, but the regulation of this process as part of the mRNA locasome is still unclear. Here, we performed a phosphoproteomic analysis of She2 in vivo and identified new phosphosites, several of which are located at the dimerization or tetramerization interfaces of She2. Remarkably, phosphomimetic mutations at these residues disrupt the capacity of She2 to promote Ash1 asymmetric accumulation. A detailed analysis of one of these residues, T109, shows that a T109D mutation inhibits She2 oligomerization and its interaction with She3 and the importin-α Srp1. She2 proteins harboring the T109D mutation also display reduced expression. More importantly, this phosphomimetic mutation strongly impairs the capacity of She2 to bind RNA and disrupts ASH1 mRNA localization. These results demonstrate that the control of She2 oligomerization by phosphorylation constitutes an important regulatory step in the mRNA localization pathway.

The relationship between regional human development and geographic environment is the basis for dynamic social change, and studying the evolution of human-land relations in typical regions can provide background knowledge for global change studies. This study is based on GIS and spatio-temporal statistical techniques, combined with the analysis of toponymic cultural landscapes, to study ethnic minority regions of southeastern China. The results show that: (1) The geographical environment of the region will affect the naming of villages, and the orientation and family name are the most common; the frequency of plants, pit (keng), animals, and flat (ping) is also very high. (2) Han settlements and She settlements have obvious spatial differentiation, and in general the Han distribution area is lower than that of the She. Han settlements are mainly distributed in plain areas along rivers with elevations less than 200 m; She settlements are mainly distributed in hilly areas (200~500 m) and low mountain areas (500~800 m). (3) The results of quadrat analysis and nearest neighbor index analysis show that both Han and She settlements are clustered in the spatial distribution pattern, and the distribution of She settlements is more clustered than that of Han, with more dense settlements at a certain spatial scale. The regional cultural landscape is the result of the development and evolution of human-land relationship, and the comprehensive analysis of cultural landscape can understand the process of human-land relationship in a small region. The settlements in the region are indicative of the geographic environment in terms of village naming, spatial pattern, elevation differentiation and relationship with rivers, which can reflect the environmental adaptation process of human activities.

STUDY OBJECTIVES: Disorder of arousal (DOA) and sleep-related hypermotor epilepsy (SHE) are complex, often bizarre, involuntary sleep behaviors, whose differential diagnosis may be challenging because they share some clinical features, such as sleep fragmentation. Mounting evidence highlights the critical role of sleep in cognitive functions. Controversial findings are raised about the cognitive profile in SHE; however, no studies have investigated the cognitive profile in DOA. This study aimed to assess whether sleep instability affects cognitive functions in patients with SHE or DOA. METHODS: This study analyzed 11 patients with DOA, 11 patients with SHE, and 22 healthy controls (HC). They underwent full-night video polysomnography (vPSG) and comprehensive neuropsychological and behavioral evaluation. Differences in the variables of interest among the SHE group, DOA group, and their respective control groups were evaluated. The auto-contractive map (auto-CM) system was used to evaluate the strength of association across the collected data. RESULTS: The SHE group had reduced sleep efficiency and increased wake after sleep onset (WASO); both the SHE and DOA groups showed increased % of N2 and REM sleep compared to the HC group. Neuropsychological and behavioral evaluations showed a different cognitive profile in the SHE group with respect to the HC group. The auto-CM showed that Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI), Beck depression inventory (BDI), MWCST_PE, Epworth sleepiness scale (ESS), WASO, N1, and % REM were strictly correlated with SHE, whereas the SE and arousal index (AI) were strictly related to DOA. CONCLUSIONS: Patients with SHE and DOA present different cognitive and psychiatric profiles, with subtle and selective cognitive impairments only in those with SHE, supporting the discriminative power of cognitive and psychiatric assessment in these two conditions.
